The gent in charge was very helpful and had great food suggestions. This is our second stay here and it is unchanged, clean and tidy. It actually felt more like a great hotel room rather than a hostel. The rustic building gives it the traditional Roma feel but the interior is very modern. Everything from the all white spotless bathroom with the modern shower and sink/mirror will make you very comfortable. I also enjoyed the tall ceilings which are the original ceilings that are many hundreds of years old. Very cool. You'll even have your own window overlooking the courtyard and that is always nice to have the sun shine into your room. All of this is away from the hustle and bustle of the city so you'll have a quaint and peaceful room to yourself. The room itself was very clean and also had a stylish feel to it that made it very accommodating and comfortable to stay in. The bed is very comfortable and there is even a cabinet to store your luggage and clothes. I would say the room is spacious enough to fit a couple comfortably but I could see a small family staying in the room as well. Plus there is free wi-fi which is perfect for planning out your day. As far as service goes, Alex and Ercole are also extremely helpful and great guides to the city as well as to your room and to Blue Hostel. They truly do everything they can to make you feel like you are a native and that you are right at home. Alex provided us with large maps of the city and then took the time to point out restaurants, sights, etc. He even catered it to us by pointing out the areas that natives go to and also pointing out less touristy spots. If you have any issues, there is a phone provided in the hallway that you can call hotel management and they will be very quick to respond. Probably the best part of Blue Hostel is the location. It is walking distance from mostly everything including the major tourist sites like the Colosseum. It is also incredibly close to the Termini station which means taking the train to another city or to the airport is a breeze. Overall, I really enjoyed Blue Hostel. Alex and Ercole really try to make you feel at home and do so without making the cost exorbitant. That is truly unheard of when you compare to other hotels in Roma. I also appreciated the location and the safety you feel. That is because you'll have a set of keys that lock various doors before you get to your own room. I would recommend Blue Hostel to all travelers and they really helped to make our trip to Roma a fantastic one!

I've stayed here twice -- the first time in June 2008: I arrived in the morning, and after an all-night train ride and a long plane flight prior to that, I was desperate for a shower to clean up and wake me up before I set off to enjoy Rome. They were very kind, and while I couldn't stay in the dorm beds yet, they let me take a shower and get organized, and even gave me a map and some directions for good places to get lunch and find my way around. Three nights in the dorms was great -- they are co-ed, with bathrooms down the hall which was great. The second time I stayed here was in July 2012. I had arrived from the US late in the evening, though my luggage had decided to take a sojourn elsewhere in Europe (thanks Lufthansa), but the woman at the front desk was so helpful in letting me know how to get around and get some of the essentials that I didn't have. When my luggage arrived, they even set it next to my dorm bed for me, rather than keeping it out at the front counter. Yay! Made a very stressful situation much easier to manage. The Beehive has a wonderful outdoor area which is great for eating, reading, or just enjoying the sunshine. It's quiet and peaceful, so you don't realize that it's right in the heart of everything. They have an eating area where you can get breakfast (and sometimes dinner!) at an extra cost, and they have a desktop computer downstairs where you can access the internet. They also have wifi available for those traveling with laptops, though I had some difficulties accessing it from some parts of the hostel, but it was great from the breakfast nook and from the patio area outside. The price is great for Rome -- the off-season rates are amazing, and the high-season rates are competitive, but you get so much more comfort and less hassle than some of the places further away from town. Great staff, wonderful setting, I have even recommended it to my mom, that's how much I love this place!

I seriously thought it was a jail compound or exactly the type of hostel those not-so-great hostel movies were made after. But not to worry, you'll get over it in a jiffy. I stayed during Rome's August holiday, so the streets were completely quiet, and that didn't help with the initial scare of the property's physical appearance. Once you walk in, the inside pretty much looks like what you'd expect from the outside; old concrete, long halls, and lots and lots of rooms. The staff there for the most part speaks English just fine, and you can book through their website, through another site like hostelworld.com, or even call through Skype if that suits you. They do have free internet access, and small lockers for you to use if you wanted store away anything important. (Btw, If you're flying out through the Aeroporto Leonardo da Vinci di Fiumicino, and just staying over in Ostia for a day or two, I'd suggest just leaving your major luggage at the airport. For I believe about 12 euros a day, you can drop your bag at the Airport's Left Baggage Facility. That helped me quite a bit, as it took over an hour and 20 minutes for me to get to and from Fiumicino to Ostia's Litus Hostel (but that might have been because bus service was not running regularly during the holiday) and I'm happy I only had a backpack to haul. Anyways, back to the hostel. The other guests and staff were friendly as you'd expect, and it's always interesting to start a conversation and hear what part of their journey they're at. The refreshments are really inexpensive there, so that was a big plus. I stayed in a female dorm of 6-beds, and they had a shower and bathroom in our room which was quite nice. They provide you with towels, sheets and a pillow, so anything else you need, make sure you bring it, or you can purchase it at the hostel or the corner stores nearby (Oh, have bugspray if you come in the summer...) Unless you want to hang out indoors to use the net or something though, I would just go grab your swimmers and a towel and hang by the water with whomever you meet. And maybe pack a picnic/beverages as well, if you're cheap like me and don't want to pay the surcharge at the beach bars. (Oh, and there was also public and private beach access at the time, not sure if that's year round or not; don't be put off by that, just walk around the fence :) So, should you book there? Yes, I thought it was a good value. It's a no-frills place to wind down a bit before or after a hectic travel schedule. Just be prepared, I think I took 2 buses to get to and from the airport (the tickets can be purchased at the airport), and as the hostel advises, make sure you speak to each bus driver to ask them to notify you of where to get off. They're quite familiar with the hostel, so there shouldn't be any problems. Relax & enjoy, ciao ciao~!

You are most likely in a foreign country, that makes you vulnerable. If you pay up front, they can hold your bed hostage hoping you will be desperate enough to pay the full charge again. This mistake cost me over €400. 2. Never use a third party app to book. Only book on their website (and again, do not pay upfront). 3. For those with disabilities: Only ask them for accommodations via email, so that you have a paper trail. The hard truth is you can follow all the rules and if they want to strong arm you and steal your money, they can and will. It happened to me. They flat out refused to honor my reservation and told me if I wanted to stay I'd have to pay a second time. They are crooks so BE CAREFUL.

I enter the room ready to relax when old male entered age 60+, dressed like coming from construction site, I told he is fixing the restroom. After I asked how long will take he said he is a guest. I told it was an error. I went to the reception and try to understand what was going on. Older male with glasses informed me that my room is mixed dormitory. So I opened my confirmation email where this information was committed. His response was, I need to think about others who are coming next and had booked female dormitory. No assistance was offered. I discovered that if he moved me to ladies dormitory it costed less,as results they were supposed to refund some of what I was charged. I suppose this explain the resilience and undesirability to help me. Second night At 1 am they closed the rooftop bar and those males come to the room, not respectfully, snoring and other corporeal sound, make it impossible to sleep. I went down to the reception after 4 hours of torture. Where a male age 30ties allowed himself to scream at me with anger and extreme hostility. I honestly felt uncomfortable. I am a women and I feel in danger. He screamed until I couldn't stop crying. Extremely verbally abusive. I look for another hotel but as I am leaving shortly I couldn't find. The screaming man saw my review and bring a napkin, saying sorry I scream, but he justified his aggressive behavior with:I am not responsible for this, this is between you and the hotel!" The stuff is poorly mannered. Lack of basic human consideration and absolutely unprofessional. Not welcoming, not friendly. Absolutely disrespectful and just poorly behaved unhealthy individuals. Just Horible. I don't recommend it. Dangerous, dirty, dingy zone full of drug dealers homeless and a lot of stools around this hostel. It looks shiny from the outside, but it is really Horible. This is not safe for ladies solo travelers. It's just abusive and toxic and really traumatizing. Never again. I don't recommend.

The breakfast buffet is fine (wish they had hazelnuts or walnuts for the cereal), but I really love the club sandwich (I always order it for lunch), if you arrive later then the fare now isn't as good. It does not feel like Italy at all. 2) The shuttle wait was around 20 minutes, not 15 and we were not aware that the shuttle is actually a public bus used by airport employees and makes at least 5 stops between the hotel and airport. The line at the hotel was also huge and some people did not get on, so plan accordingly. My husband and I stayed here for one night because we wanted to be by the airport for our flight the next morning. When we arrived we waited in a long line at reception and then asked for the front desk to check us in and order a taxi to Ostia Antica, a Roman ruin about 20 minutes away. We wanted to get back to exploring Italy on our last day and not be stuck in the hotel. The woman at the reception was confusing as she said a room was ready and then she said I'm not going to give you that room. She also could not comprehend that we would want a taxi to leave the isolated hotel. It was a very odd experience, but we did end up having our bags held in their storage closest and getting a taxi. The taxi was expensive and I should have looked at uber instead because our uber back was much cheaper. Ostia Antica is a really cool ancient ruin and archeological site and the village is adorable and has a castle. I highly recommend checking it out if you get to this hotel during the day. When we got back to the hotel in the evening we got the room keys. It's an old hotel with odd, sometimes scary decor (clown pictures) and they forgot to put shampoo in our shower. They sent us up shampoo and we just needed a place to stay before our flight so it was fine, but the cost was too high in my opinion and I think people should strongly consider their options before choosing this hotel.

This was my first time at a hostel and I had my reservations. I imagined it would be a cross between the 2005 movie 'Hostel' and living in a coed college dorm. I was thankful that my stay was nothing like the movie and I was semi correct with the dorm comparison. I arrived late in the evening after travelling all day from California to Rome. I thought it would be an easy walk from the train station but with the lack of street signs and sparse street lighting it was an adventure trying to find my way by foot. *for future self, take a cab. After finding Hotel Lodi and going downstairs to the reception desk I was greeted by a polite worker. He guessed who I was based on my online reservation and informed me that my friend was waiting for me. It's nice that they were able to room us together though we booked separately. I made my way up 2 flights stairs to my room and found 2 bunk beds. I'm not normally a fan of bunk beds but for 23 Euros a night I couldn't complain. There were cabinets big enough for me to put my duffle bag in and they had way for me to lock my belongings with the lock I brought. The bathroom down the hall was well kept and clean for me to wash up and get ready in. Overall the place was clean and the other travelers were respectful with keeping the noise down. They offered a beverage and light snack in the morning for breakfast which I skipped and they had 2 computers for internet usage. They greeted me with a smile everyday, and were willing to chat and give me good recommendations about the city. The guy up front drew on bus routes, recommended walking tours, good restaurants, and good bars on the standard Rome tourist map. He even gave lunch recommendations and complimented my admittedly bad faked from Spanish Italian. The bed is comfortable enough. No need to return the sheets or anything when you checkout. The bathrooms are sparse, and because there's no carpet or anything, people tend to track dirt into the bathrooms. They give you free juice/coffee and a nice simple breakfast. There's not really much of a lounge to hang out with other hostel goers. Wifi really only works well down in the lounge. With a laptop it works a bit better since the antennas are bigger.
