Overall: 5/5 One of the best martial arts places I've seen in NYC. The Muay Thai instructor on Monday nights is awesome. He cares a lot about the students, and after class gave me pointers on how to work out and be more relaxed... above and beyond the scope of duty. The BJJ instructors were quite friendly as well. They throw you into the deep end here for BJJ... everyone learns the same drills, so there's no "easy different drill". Which can be both a good thing (you learn with rest of class, and you get forced to catch up) or bad thing (you might not need such a specialist technique) depending on your opinion. Value: 5/5 They have a great deal on Groupon, but I think they have a great welcome offer as well. They didn't try to hard-sell you an upgrade when you sign up, and didn't even need a credit card # when I used my groupon. Environment: 4.5/5 Community seems quite friendly. Went here for the trial judo class, it was super fun, everyone from the white belts to the experienced black belts were super helpful and accommodating. Overall an amazing experience. Unfortunately I won't be able to go back now due to other circumstances, but I would love to come back here in the future one day and couldn't reccomend it enough as a great environment for anyone looking to start out in something new. read more

This is the best judo, bjj, and Muay Thai school that I've ever trained at. For judo, they have a perfect mix of beginners, elite athletes, and true veterans of the sport. For bjj, Coach Quinn is one of the most technical and knowledgable instructors that you will find in all of NY. And Muay Thai is one of the best conditioning classes that you could ever take. Beyond all this, there is a real sense of community and friendship, that makes it my favorite place to be on any given weekday evening. And it couldn't be easier to commute to right under the N+Q trains and with a municipal parking lot right in the back. Great, friendly, down-to-earth place to practice Brazilian jiu jitsu. They also offer muay thai, kickboxing, etc, but I think their strength is actually in judo - one of the coaches is a judo world champion. So if you want to learn how to throw people onto the ground in a dramatic and efficient way, try it! The studio is in a basement under the subway exit at Ditmars. There were a good number of white belts in BJJ classes, which can be good and bad (a BJJ-specific studio I've been to was filled with Brazilians at brown belt or higher - obviously, it had a significantly more hardcore vibe). Instead, the vibe here at ITC is communal, even though you're training with some people who actually compete. They're unpretentious and less focused on ritual, which I like. Using a Groupon, I unfortunately only got to try 4 classes. Two of them were (unexpectedly) open mat. I think the regular membership here is in the area of $250/month. You can borrow a gi/belt, but it's nice to have your own. They also sell Manto brand gis for cheaper than other places because the owner of Manto trains here! The bathroom and locker rooms for men and women are functional. Guys training here also seem to be extra sweaty. I wish my apartment (and my shower) were closer! read more

I came in one night after being recommended by a friend to check it out. He said that everyone there was great and it had a fun environment to be a part of. I had to check it out for myself so I tried the Groupon that they had offered (and still offer) and after the first month, I just kept wanting to go back. I have only done the BJJ classes but everyone is very welcoming. From the first day, Coach Quinn was more than willing to help me get things right and on a daily basis, I've seen that he truly cares a lot about his students. The students there are very friendly and it feels like you're training with family when you're on the mats. After class, if you need help working on drilling techniques or improving on anything, someone will always be willing to help you out so you can get better. I've never left the gym thinking I didn't learn anything that night. I've never trained Judo or Muy Thai but some of the people that train BJJ, train in those too because of the unlimited lessons you can get monthly. The Judo program are taught by Olympic champions to people with more than 30 years of experience so you can be assured that you will be in good hands learning something. Plus, the people that train in it are some of the most open-hearted people I know. The Muy Thai classes I've seen Coach Srijan teach have been detailed and you can really see that he takes the time to help you when you need it. They even have a kids program that Grace teaches and when I walk in while those are going on, you can tell the kids are always having fun and getting a good workout while at it. If you're looking for a place to train some martial arts or just want to come give BJJ/Judo/Muy Thai a try, then definitely come give ITC a chance. They have class times that match anyones schedule so you can get the most out of your training and they even offer free trial classes for you to jump in a class. This place is cozy and friendly. The instructor Quinn is by far the best Jiujitsu instructor I ever had. He gives just the right amount of details for students. He also teaches in a way where students grasps concepts with small games. His classes are in the evening and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their Jiujitsu!! read more

I primarily come here for judo. I have to say everyone here is nice and caring. The teachers at ITC are excellent trainers and will try their best to make sure they are paying attention to everyone of us. Moreover, they are always open to questions and are willing to answer them. They also have BJJ and Muay Thai (they will be having kids program soon)in addition to judo as mentioned on their website. The Guys who started the school invited me to go. The place was clean and everyone was friendly. They had all sorts of martial arts. Including Judo which I am very familiar with. Lots of good fighters on the mat there. They also have BJJ and Muay thai. I had the chance to observe the classes and they were absolutely fantastic. Itc is an incredible training facility with great instructors. I highly recommend everyone give it a shot and work out there. The showers were clean, lockers rooms on point, the beverage stand and merchandise store all were done very nicely. The lounge area is easy on the eyes as well. read more

ITC is hands down one one of the best martial arts schools all around. They teach the highest level of Muay thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. All instructors are active fighters and competitors, so you know that what they teach will actually work in a real life against trained people. I take Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes and I can't compliment them enough. All training partners are very technical and extremely respectful, nobody is going for the kill trying to injure you. Also, the classes are rather small, so you always get the instructor's attention (which is seriously not the case in large BJJ schools), if you have questions, everyone is more than willing to help you out. The head instructor is a student of the legendary John Danaher, so you have access to the techniques fresh from one of the top schools in the world for a fraction of a price. Marcelo Garcia's and Renzo Gracie Academies are excellent, but they are super expensive. At RGA, you have to pay for their muay Thai program separately, so if you want to train both, it will cost you a small fortune. ITC gives you unlimited access to classes and training equipment for a very modest and reasonable price. P.S. I don't take judo or muay thai, but I always see national and Olympic level players who come to train at ITC. They also have an excellent kids program lead by Grace. You can tell that she is genuinely excited to teach children and to pass on the knowledge. If you or your kids want to learn how to defend yourselves in a truly family-like welcoming environment and not have to sell a kidney to do that, ITC is the school! read more

I've been training BJJ here for a year and a half under Coach Quinn and recently picked up some of Srijan's Muay Thai classes. Quinn is so technically driven, there's honestly no way not to improve under him. The techniques are immediately applicable, detailed, and logically linked to set ups and counters. The people are tough, friendly, respectful training partners. It's a legit family. And Srijan is equally technical and detailed in teaching combative MT. The conditioning is painfully blissful, and the small class sizes allows for really pointed, specific feedback. The judo is also top notch. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's very woman-friendly and newbie-friendly, which was really important to me when I started. Also, the kid's program is great. Grace is a super enthusiastic instructor that genuinely loves kids and martial arts, so the combination is dynamite. read more

Nice gym with great instructors, it was referred by a friend of mine. I came to check out the facility and could see how professional this place is. The instructors are very humble, friendly atmosphere with serious athletes. Workouts are very intense. I started coming to ITC after purchasing a Groupon on a whim. I've been doing Muay Thai for about 8 months now and my cardio is fantastic. They also offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, which I hope to try soon. All of the instructors are knowledgeable, firm yet patient. I was a bit hesitant to try it, being a girl in a male-dominated sport, but there are plenty of girls who attend and everyone is so nice and friendly. The friendly atmosphere foster healthy competition yet teamwork-something sorely lacking in many of the uber-testosterone BJJ gyms in Manhatta. What ever I will say about this center is not enough. First of all they have a very good deal through Groupon , 3 months + free kickboxing gloves for 45 $ Can you believe that! The space is spacious and very clean. very friendly Staff, and well experienced trainers. Its about 5 minutes walking from 7 train (33rd street station). So I've also started taking BJJ at ITC for a few weeks now (maybe a month?) and I have to say I'm in love with the art. While Muay Thai works a lot of muscles I have come out of every BJJ class feeling like i just tried to pull a truck. Despite the intimate/hands on nature of the sport, the guys always make me feel respected and comfortable (and coming from a sexual assault victim this is saying A LOT) and they will offer you guidance while you practice together. Alberto (the instructor) is very talented and will show you the move ten times if he has to so you'll get it down, and is always very encouraging when I do something that probably looks very silly (which happens often). It's a great sport for small girls since you don't have to be big in order to break someone's arm, and once again I would give this place a hundred more stars if I could. I found this place sometime in December, I am not a martial arts guru by any means, I just wanted a decent workout from a reputable gym without a contract or ridiculous prices. So this is not an expert review or anything. I've been taking Muay thai here every since. The instructors are amazing, very knowledgable, very patient but firm, which I like. Everyone else in the class is also friendly, even though we are all at different levels, which I appreciate bc i don't want to be made to feel dumb just bc i'm a beginner. ITC is probably one of the cleanest gyms I've been to. I never changed in locker rooms before just bc the woman's areas are like always filthy, but this place is pretty spotless, so thats a huge plus. THey also have Judo and BJJ which i also plan to try out. Doesnt hurt that the instructers are "easy on the eyes" too lol. read more
