I'm a little older but not that old to get back in shape and stay that way. Right now it's Covid-19 time so we haven't moved on to BJJ and hard core Muay Thai, but as soon as this virus dies I'm looking forward to learning all of it. We do practice the kicks and punches though. I love how I feel after coming out of the place. But you have to push yourself or you will get nothing from what they have to offer. I want to be healthy in my old age, with the ability to fight for me and my family, if I need to defend myself.

He cares a lot about the students, and after class gave me pointers on how to work out and be more relaxed... above and beyond the scope of duty. The BJJ instructors were quite friendly as well. They throw you into the deep end here for BJJ... everyone learns the same drills, so there's no "easy different drill". Which can be both a good thing (you learn with rest of class, and you get forced to catch up) or bad thing (you might not need such a specialist technique) depending on your opinion. They didn't try to hard-sell you an upgrade when you sign up, and didn't even need a credit card # when I used my groupon. Environment: 4.5/5 Community seems quite friendly. When I DMed the hinds combat admin about this they didn't do anything about it. I went to their other place in Midtown and the owner Sean actually kicked me out for calling out the BS. I asked for my money back and he refused, it escalated to him getting in my face where I pushed him back and one of the other trainers named Dom came out of nowhere and sucker punched me. I reported him to the police and he left in handcuffs. Sean I think showed how trash and ignorant he is along with the rest of the place. Rob G is a highly decorated IBJJF medalist, and has trained under BJJ/MMA legends such as Renzo Gracie, Sean Alvarez, and receiving his black belt under none other than Nelson Monteiro of Gracie Barra fame. Rob G brings a unique perspective to his instruction, making many of the techniques that he teaches instantly "click" for his students, myself included, and easily absorbed. One very helpful aspect of his classes is that his warm-ups will directly correspond to the moves that will be taught in class. His passion and talent is clearly evident through his students and their successes. What especially stands out is the PERSONAL attention and care that he provides to each of his students - whether they are a high level belt that trains with him everyday, or a low level blue belt such as myself. After a seminar he gave at the Westchester ECU academy, I messaged him on Facebook with some questions about a few moves that he taught. What do I get in response? A step-by-step personal VIDEO that he made for me, demonstrating and addressing each of my questions! There is a solid group of consistent female students here, some who have been training under Professor Rob and Coach Vianca since their childhood/teen years, that continue to come here and train as adults at their own will. That alone showed me that this was a tight-knit, safe training environment, and was probably my #1 motivation for deciding to commit my weeknights here. Compared to other academies I have visited, Professor Rob spends a lot more time going into detail when explaining drills, and gives individualized attention to his students. He keeps a close eye on us when we spar, and then tailors the class based on what we need to improve on. You will not get lost in the crowd here, unlike some bigger academies. During class, he accommodates to every skill level and age group, beginner to advanced. If you are an avid competitor in the sport or just an occasional hobbyist, he will help you regardless. He is an excellent, and honest instructor who cares about you improving, and when need be, is tough and pushes you to be better. See you in class soon.
