Outstanding Help from Stacey in the Records Department I just wanted to take a moment to recognize Stacey in the Records Department at IU Medical Hospital in Lafayette. She was absolutely amazing! I was getting extremely frustrated trying to find the records I needed to file an insurance claim, and not everyone I spoke with along the way was as patient or helpful. But Stacey was different she was kind, patient, and genuinely took the time to help me understand what I needed and how to get it. Her professionalism and calm approach made a stressful situation so much easier. IU Medical Hospital is lucky to have her. Total incompetence from beginning to end. Go in for a normal procedure with all pre approvals taken care of from my insurance provider. Come out having to spend countless hours on the phone with my insurance and their billing department. 11 months later still dealing with their stupidity. Will never use IU health again. With all the stress they have caused me I wouldn't give them one star but that's the lowest possible. read more

My mother presented to the ER with transient ischemic attacks (TIA). The physician performed a CT without contrast despite contrast being recommended for stroke-like symptoms and cleared her to fly the next day. After flying, she promptly had another TIA. Luckily we were able to have her admitted to my hospital, where she was promptly diagnosed and appropriately treated. As a healthcare provider, I'm especially disgusted by IU Health's blatant disregard for my mother and their inability to follow basic stroke protocols. read more

My wife's papaw who raised her was found unresponsive back in mid January. He was rushed to the IU hospital in Tipton. He had cardiac arrest but survived it. He was then Transferred to IU Arnett where their intensive care did a great job. But then he was sent to other care it got bad really fast. The nurses were negligent in their care of papaw. They left him hours on end without ever checking in on him. It was to the point that with in week 3 of him being there he developed a bed sore. They are supposed to move him around ever so often. But they were too busy trying to figure out which one of their baby daddies missed their child support payment for the month to actually do their job. The doctors couldn't figure out what caused him to loose consciousness. You went to medical school for 12 years and had multiple residencies and you can't even do that job right. He had pneumonia and is 73 years old and they decided to put him in the lowest care area. They lied to us several times, telling us he would be taken to a physical care center to get physical therapy. Then suddenly out of nowhere, they send him home to face hospice care. He wouldn't be facing his demise had they done their job. I keep hearing Sectary of state Rubio claim we have the best healthcare in the world. I would love to know what drugs he's on to think that, but I digress. The fact is if you are being transported to another hospital and you hear the name Arnett, just the the EMT,s to open the ambulance door and let you roll on out and hope the car behind it hits you. Because either way, you're dying. Stay away from this shit hospital. If there was an option for negative 5 stars, that is what I would rate this place! read more

Would not go to their gastro doctors. They don't accept preexisting conditions. They messed up my diabetes. They didn't diagnose me. The doctor out of Indianapolis diagnosed me. Wasn't my stomach. It was my esophagus problem. They finally transferred me to Indianapolis. Was telling them it wasn't my stomach. Will never go back. Asked for money back. Near medical neglect. My father was a patient here during the last two weeks of his life. The staff were all wonderful and caring - nurses, doctors, palliative care, social work - no complaints whatsoever. My parents usually go to Franciscan but the ambulance brought him here (no beds, maybe?). My father was a bit difficult at the beginning of his stay, but everyone had a smile and a kind word regardless. Thanks to all of you for providing comfort to my father in his final days. read more

I would go literally anywhere else, doesn't matter if I was bleeding out. The staff are rude and dismissive. Act very annoyed if you don't know exactly where to go from the waiting room. Doctors and nurses alike act bored and disinterested if you talk about your problems you came in for. Be prepared to be overcharged for basic tests and a few minutes (maybe more than 5 minutes if your lucky) of actual help, even in-network. Be prepared to be treated like you are the lowest priority possible, especially less than whatever the staff are gossiping about in the hall for over an hour while you wait. If you have a concerning problem, but are not dying right this minute, be prepared for the local clinic to tell you to go to ER, then ER tell you to go back to the clinic. Nobody is interested in getting to the bottom of your problem or doing more than bare minimum. read more

Just last week I became ill with fever, coughing and chest pains. Sound familiar. I went to the emergency room at IU Arnett Hospital. To put it simply, I received the most professional and effective care. When I entered the ER, I was greeted by a nurse in a mask who asked questions regarding the Covid-19 virus. She was kind and respectful but very to the point in order to protect themselves and other patients entering. What happened next was wonderful. After getting all my information, I was escorted back to a room in the ER where all doors were closed in order to contain any traces of a virus. Everyone had masks, gowns and gloves on. The effort to contain and isolate was great. As well as the care. They performed all the tests necessary for what I may have potentially had. One of the tests was for the Covid-19 virus as well. Even though I was nervous about the possible outcomes, the nurses and the doctors balanced the professionalism with kindness to put me at ease as I waited for the results. What they did identify was that I had pneumonia. The Covid-19 test takes longer to get results. So, up to the floor with the other possible patients who are suspected with the virus as well. There too, the nurses and doctors were cordial, kind and positive even though they had to be geared up in all the personal protective equipment. And, they made my stay as comfortable as one can be in a hospital. What a professional team. The next day, the doctor came into my room and shared with me I did not have the Covid-19 virus and would be discharged shortly. So, now I'm home recovering from pneumonia. But, the experience at the IU Arnett Hospital was so much better than I had anticipated. I want to shout out a big "Thank You" to all the administrative team, nurses and doctors who cared for me and wish them all the best during this difficult time. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I went in with severe abdominal pain to the emergency room. After checking in, I waited THREE hours to be seen. If it were busy, I'd understand, but they skipped over me multiple times. When I was finally taken to a room, it took an hour to finally have a doctor come talk to me. After a brief questioning, he told me I would be getting an ultrasound. That wait took an hour and a half. After the ultrasound, it took two hours and my boyfriend asking several nurses where my results were and suddenly, my results were in their hand. It took 7 1/2 hours for me to walk in the shit hole, be seen, get an ultrasound and find out I have a cyst on my ovary. Then they prescribed me some opioid and told me I need to make an appointment with a gynecologist and sent me in my way. 7 1/2 hours for a test, some drugs, and another doctors appointment instead of treating me in a timely manner. read more

The ambulance that I called could only take hubby to Arnett or St Francisian. All of our medical history is with IU, so we chose Arnett. Previously he had been in Arnett 2 times and both times were terrible. Overbilling and excessive billing for same test as you get in IU Indy, 5x the amount for Arnett. Now he's in Arnett again because of ambulance. The doctors are ordering tests that are not needed and meds that he has had before. They ordered a steriod for the swelling in his brain that was NOT there the previous day. Also ordered a water pill for the swelling in his legs which is caused by the steriod for the brain. He wants OUT and I'm getting the runaround on how to do that. Very seldom can you get a doctor that was raised in the US. Next time he needs a doctor, we will travel a minimum of 30 miles THEN call for ambulance and get him into IU WEST which has been wonderful so far and all his doctors are there. BTW Arnett hasn't bothered to call his cancer doctors and he's been there for over 36 hrs and they have given meds that I don't know if works with his chemo. DON"T take anyone there. read more

Horrible place to go when you're in need of compassionate care. They way overcharge you and waste your time as well. On top of that, they won't talk to my husband regarding my appointment! They NEED ME to call them and miss work more so i can wait on hold for 25 minutes instead of just talking to my husband! They are in it for the money, not the patients. read more

Hospital staff is rude, inept and dismissive of patients family choosing to not keep them up to date on care. I am the POA and they chose to not only ignore messages but then to say they had talked to another family member and to ask them. Great if you even speak to them but if you don't you are screwed. Since when can staff not update the POA especially with the covid rules and not being allowed to visit with the patient? I will be traveling from Indianapolis just to see the nursing staff and get an update on my mother even if I can't see her. read more

horrible care, SLOW ER CARE, surgery unorganized, untrained and not enough nursing staff. My husband screamed and begged and cried and screamed for 3 hours before they could figure out how to help him after the urologist messed up his surgery. Don't take your dog here! The on call urologist who did his surgery would not answer the pages. The hospital doctor walked in the room and I quote said "I don't know what to do, I'm not a urologist" and left him screaming in pain. His bladder was blocked from the surgery and no one could help him!!!!! read more

I stayed here with my wife and we had a terrible time. Not only was the staff rude and unprofessional, I was asked to leave the hospital and threatened for walking around with my wife. I wanted to get a candy bar from the vending machine and since the main elevators were down on the sixth floor, we had to use staff elevators. However leaving the area to the staff elevators prompts the door to lock behind you. The vending machine was a foot away from the door. I wanted her to hold the door while I got the desired snack from the machine. That way we didnt need to wait for security to escort us back up through the staff area. (Last time we did, the security officer just mumbled about how he hated his job and was extremely depressing). So, as we tried to go downstairs we were stopped and threatened. They told us she couldn't leave the floor, the nurse said she would call security if we did. Rather than explaining why we shouldn't leave in relation to her care, they resort to threats. Which is sad, because a simple conversation would suffice. My wife quickly obliged not wanting to cause issues with hospital security. I went downstairs and used my shoe to hold the door open for 15 seconds to get my snack. Only to return to a security guard waiting to escort me off of the property. My wife was having trouble sleeping and couldn't relax all that night without me around. The nurse continued to disrespect her by entering her room without knocking and peeking through the blinds rather than entering some times. Trearing my wife like an animal at a zoo. In addition, on my way out I asked the security guard to speak to the nursing director. They agreed to let me see her in 45minutes due to her being busy. While waiting, I asked for the IU Health mission statement, as i was extremely upset at our level of care. Which specifically says they are focused on providing excellent care. Among other things they fail to follow through on. I was then threatened by security staff that the police would be called if I continued to harass the nurses that I asked about the mission statement. I asked them one time to see it the mission statement, then was told it was on the wall, posted. In fact it wasn't, and someone had to pull it from the organization's intranet. Then I was accused of some other minor details so I was afraid they wouldn't allow me to see my wife again at all and I left. I came back later the next day to complain only to have my wife tell me about how her nurses gossiped about her and made rude remarks under their breath. (Maybe not realizing how thin the walls were). Absolutely insensitive and unprofessional staff. I'm currently waiting to hear what the nursing supervisor plans to do. Considering two of these unprofessional nurses were charge nurses and in a position of leadership. Seems like IU promotes the wrong people in their hospitals. I will keep this post up to date on what actions are taken. If they truly do punish the guilty parties, this place may yet earn redemption in our eyes, but my wife and I wouldn't dare dream of holding our breath. This isn't even the bulk of some of the things we noticed during our stay here. This campus needs to be restructured in the way of management. read more

Their billing department is inept. Apparently the technology to provide one bill/account per family and to easily reconcile payment is more elusive than cutting edge, life-saving ones. They return checks for payment and then send you to a collection company. It's awesome. Their "customer service" people are unhelpful and rude. They game the insurance companies. read more

My mom goes in with excruciating pain in her left arm and they refuse to actually do something about it. They just doped her up and sent her home, which didn't help at all. She's made 2 visits now and still gets the same results...just pain. They argued to her about an MRI with the door open to her room for the whole world to hear and are completely unprofessional. She's obviously crying in pain and it saddens me to see that they just keep sending her home with no solution just pills that are doing absolutely nothing to help. Idk what to do or where to take her she can't even sleep at night because it's so bad. All I really do know is this hospital sucks and every dollar you spend there is better off somewhere else. read more

Had great care of my Mother while she was in the hospital with a near death experience. The quick thinking of the ED staff and quality care of the ICU staff, and 5th floor staff kept her with us and helped her get back to her pre-incident condition. Can't thank them enough. read more

For the majority of the time I receive great care. Most of the nurses are top notch and trust them with everything. Others have no clue and shouldn't be allowed to practice. Wait times for appointments are long and some of the ER doctors are idiots. I don't mind staying the night but the nurses are soooooo overly understaffed it's hard to receive good care esp when recovering from surgery. ER wait times are long but it's mostly because people clog it up with minuscule complaints that aren't even close to an emergency. read more

I used to think this was a great hospital and actually thought they had compassionate healers. This stay has been the worst I've ever had, however. I have been on the sixth floor for 8 days now and have had some of the rudest nurses I've ever encountered. Specifically, the night charge nurse named Alysse (sp?). She is abrasive and completely unprofessional. She was extremely rude to my husband and to myself. I do not recommend staying on the sixth floor if you do not want to deal with such a horrible non-compassionate person. She does not care about your needs. I was threatened to be handcuffed to my bed for trying to use the restroom by myself because nobody would come in to assist me when they told me that I had to have help. I would be perfectly capable of walking there by myself however I am so weak now because they won't let me out of bed. The administrator then came to my room and told me he would lock my bathroom door if I had to go again. They have not been telling me anything about my labs or care even though I am a nurse myself. It has been a terrible experience. There are some very sweet nurses too but I'd stay away from this floor at least. read more
