There's so many good things to say but I'll start with them saving my sister's life. From the doctors and nursing staff to the custodians and cafeteria staff, they were all amazing. One of the custodians kindly offered to pray for her. When she came in, she was closer to death than most people would ever come back from. She is still there after 2 weeks but doing so so much better. Of course, as a former ICU and ER RN who just graduated NP school, I'm gonna have some critiques and criticisms but overall, everyone has shown their love and support for her immensely and her nurses have even seen that she's still there and have requested to take her back. Complete dumpster fire. Unprofessional, no communication between staff on patient's updates and needs. Doctors and hospitalists communicate out different updates to keep the patient not knowing WTF is going on. RN's that we had were decent. Busy doing damage control and apologizing. But it's clear that they don't get solid and accurate information passed along to give to the patient either. I'd like to think this was a 1 off occurance but it took place repeatedly over the course of a 5 day stay. Not to mention, a blood draw from an IV that was freshly tapped, wouldn't pull blood. So they went into an IV that has been in her arm for the 5 days. I'm sure it's as sterile and clean as the rest of the stay. Watching out for infection/meningitis at this point. Needless to say, this was about as horrible of an experience that we could have ever had at a healthcare facility. I'd recommend this to no one until complete turnover. 1 stars is too many read more

I'm surprised that I've never reviewed my experiences at the IU Health Ostomy Clinic located inside Methodist Hospital. However, I'm righting that wrong now. The IU Health Ostomy Clinic is in the basement in an area between the Professional Building and Methodist Hospital. It shares space with the Methodist Wound Center (it's at the opposite end on a separate wing), though their missions are definitely different. An ostomy technically qualifies as a wound, though it's certainly not a wound you'll be getting rid of in the traditional ways a wound care center would treat you. There are several different types of ostomies: An ileostomy creates an opening from the small intestine to the abdominal wall. A colostomy connects the large intestine to the abdominal wall. A urostomy creates an opening, called a stoma, for urine to leave the body. I believe there's also a vesicostomy, though I don't think they're done much anymore. I began seeing the IU Health Ostomy Clinic following my late 2022, 2023 battle with bladder cancer. While I won (I mean, hey. I survived.), I lost my bladder in the process. So, if you ever see me at a Yelp event and wonder why it looks like I have a ginormous mole on my abdomen, it's much more likely I don't have that mole but I do have an ostomy pouch that needs attention. I first met with the clinic during my cancer hospitalization. They met with me shortly after surgery to assist with care of my new ostomy, my stoma, and to train me in caring for it. I saw them daily and we began experimenting with supplies. After discharge, I recovered for 2-3 weeks at home and then began seeing them weekly as we ensured my body healed like it should. The nurses inpatient were amazing - there are nurses who specialize in this type of care. It's great because so many people, including nurses, are skittish about ostomies (They're honestly not that bad. You get used to it.). I'd heard great things about May, sort of considered the IU Health Ostomy icon. I called her not long after I got home because I was really struggling and didn't have a lot of support. She de-escalated me mentally and brainstormed ideas to get me through until my appointment. Those ideas worked. The clinic is comprised of a nurse practitioner who also is certified in wound care and ostomy care. Bethany is awesome and very involved. She even jumped in when I started having billing issues specific to her. The rest of the small team is comprised of nurses. The clinic is really designed to help heal the body, heal the emotions, and help you figure out, at least initially, what supplies are best for you. They help you get hooked up with a supplier - you will need ostomy supplies as long as you have the ostomy. Depending on the situation, some ostomies can be reversed - I actually had a different one from ages 8-18 before it was reversed. Bladder cancer brought it back. I think the big benefit I found was just the normalizing of it. The body is very different after an ostomy. Bladder cancer changes things. The ostomy changes things. Having this central person who helps provide care and remind you your body is still worthy of care and love is profoundly impactful. Once you sort of complete the appointments and get stable, they recommend annual appointments/check-ups. IU Health also has a bi-monthly support group that is free (and you don't have to be an IU Health patient). While I've had my issues with IU Health, the Ostomy Clinic has never disappointed me. The billing issues were a pain, but they got figured out and were corrected. Every person I've dealt with here has been exceptional in both care and compassion. One of the things we say in the ostomy world is "Ostomies are Lifesavers!" That's really lived out here and this team is great at reminding you that you can still have a high quality life even as your body has changed and you'll likely be dealing with this ostomy and supplies moving forward. In my case this time, the bladder was removed and so there won't be any reversing of the ostomy. It's with me for life now. So, I'm grateful I've had this time alongside me to help with the emotional and physical aspects of healing. read more

I took my mother in for surgery this morning and first went into the Emergency Room entrance by mistake. There we encountered a security guard with a dry demeanor and little-to-no people skills. He checked my mother's purse thoroughly as if he worked for the TSA when he's really only supposed to be checking for weapons. In contrast, all of the staff on the Main Hospital side were very kind and accommodating. From the woman at the Information Desk to the custodial and food service workers that we passed on our way while looking for the Palm Tree Elevators, everyone wore a smile and were eager to help. Once we got to the 2nd floor to check in for surgery, those staff members were also very jovial and helpful. Deanna and Donna got my mother registered and took down her emergency contact info before explaining the process for preparation and discharge to us. Once we were escorted back to her room, Nurse Jill sprung into action making my mother comfortable. She told us that she "likes taking care of people." We truly love to hear that! Now I'm just waiting until she gets out of surgery. God, please guide the hands of the doctors and nurses working on my mother today! Amen! read more

This is my first visit. I am pregnant and getting an iron infusion in the cancer center. I never come downtown and have never had an iron infusion so I was pretty nervous. The parking garage and facility was easier to navigate than expected. The staff was helpful in getting us to where we needed to be. Once I checked in for my appointment I met Betty. Betty is my designated nurse for the 4+ hours I'll be here today. She is lovely! She is efficient, cares about her job, has a warm personality, and made me feel comfortable immediately. She was good at keeping conversation while getting the iv started to keep me calm and distracted. She offered me beverages, snacks, pillow(s), and/or blanket(s). My mom came with me to my appointment and needed to work so Betty even helped her get settled as well. Thank you Betty! read more

I have been a patient at this hospital and received great care but this review deals SPECIFICALLY with a visit to the emergency room and does not reflect the service given by any of the medical staff. I received a frantic phone call from my sister to get to Methodist Hospital as quickly as possible. Our mother had been transported there from a nursing care facility on the west side of Indianapolis. I left work and drove to the hospital and immediately upon entering the emergency entrance the receptionist asked me where I had parked. I was somewhat taken aback. I parked in the Emergency parking lot because I needed to enter the Emergency entrance to the hospital to see a patient who had been transported to Emergency. Where else should I have parked but in the Emergency parking lot? If a patient suffering heart attack symptoms enters the Emergency room are they first asked where they parked before receiving treatment? What about a person suffering from a gunshot wound or some other traumatic injury? Would this officious prick sitting behind their desk ask the same question? I told her I had parked in the emergency parking lot and she told me that if I wasn't there to seek treatment I would have to park in one of their garages. I am not confrontational and did not want to argue. Even though there were dozens of empty parking spaces, I reluctantly returned to my car and found the closest parking structure where I drove round and round looking for a spot. Then I had to walk the outside perimeter of the building to reach the emergency entrance. It took about 20 minutes, not very long, but those were the last few minutes of my mother's life. When I reached her bedside she had already been pronounced dead. There were no signs in the Emergency Parking Lot that said parking was restricted to patients. Nothing said if you were there to check on a person who had been admitted to the emergency unit that you should park elsewhere. So, silly me, I thought it would be okay if I parked there for a few minutes. Was this a hospital policy or was this a personal sticking point this person felt should be enforced? This person who wanted to wield their self-importance felt I should park in one of their parking structures instead of the Emergency Parking Lot and because of that my mother left this earth without seeing my face one last time, and leaving me with no chance to tell her goodbye. I do not want to paint the entire hospital with the same dreadful brush, but this one woman behind the desk in the emergency room left me with more heartbreak than necessary and a very bitter taste in my mouth. read more

Was already scared coming out of the gate. He was a new Dr. Insurance forced me to go to. First visit (days before surgery) when asked about my symptoms. I got scolded because he did not care about pain. He is a knife man only. I had thoracic fusion and lumbar laminectomy. I am 4 months out roughly and have started to notice some neuro. Side effects. When I email because I am scared I get no response. Left to wonder did he mess something up and does not want to own it or he really just does not care. I canceled my last visit. Stayed here yesterday evening and afternoon through this morning for a HoLIP prostate procedure. And was blown away by just the over the top friendliness and service of all the staff nurses and of course my urology doctor Ferguson and Tim his partner. I would definitely recommend this facility for my family and friends Marlene in postop as well as Elizabeth and Bernard my afternoon and evening nurses Also, I had a very nice conversation with the intern Ricky as well as Mary and many others who made my stay very special. Came in through er with what was mirroring a cardiac event. It took so long to see me. We got there at roughly 1 o'clock. Did not get vitals basic vitals until 15 minutes later. Once that was done I was put back on general waiting room. It took 30 minutes for cardiogram maybe longer to even begin taking me back. After that was placed back in absolute filthy waiting room again to wait more hours for chest and lung xray. After the x-ray was completed they just sat me in the hall way for someone to come and eventually get me. That was what I was told. Someone will eventually come and get me. Not who or what to expect or when for that matter. Once a porter came to get me he agreed that this hospital is worse than some 2nd and 3rd word hospitals. Porter eventually brought me back to waiting room again..... thank goodness he was so nice. An hour or two later they got around to drawing labs. She was nice but so beyond overworked. Back to the waiting room again. Finally called back to an actual ER Room around 9 pm. Room 48 was beyond filthy. Caps to needles on the floor. Dust bunnies and tumble weaves abound. There was even a dirty used mask under the bed. When my husband and I inquired about the room's appearance the staff told me they are always dirty. But the sheet was new. I hesitate to believe her on the sheet due to the lack of other clean sheets in the hamper. The "clean gowns" were falling out of their station from the front and the back. How clean are they if they are not proper stored? Finally Dr. Kirchner arrived and did not wash his hands before or after touching me OR Wear Gloves!!! The woman in the next room had shingles with open sores. She told and showed is in our shared experience in the waiting room from filthy hell. My guess no gloves for her either. Then he said what he thought happened to me but didn't want to rule out a Cardiac Event what is now almost 9 hours later! So he had someone come in to take more labs. This guy was nice but beyond spread out work-wise. He at least put on gloves to draw more blood. We were then told it would be another hour before the results came back. I had been there for over 9+ hours and never offered water food or anything- not that I think I would have eaten it because the room was so dirty. Like fecal matter or old blood on walls and floor and all the other signs of obvious filth. Good Dr. Kirchner finally circles back to us after the hour long lab test to tell me I'm all good. Still leaving me to GOOGLE the results of what had happened. He said the nurse person would come back and withdraw the vein port from my arm and we could leave but to come back if I had another similar incident and to also follow up with my primary care doc. I made sure to explain nicely through all my rage and feelings of fear of how I was treated to say that we would NEVER comeback to that facility and possibly @IUHEALTH again. The nurse eventually came in again and did NOT wear gloves when he removed the needle from my arm. I finally made it home at pushing 12:15 am. The next day from going to the emergency room?!? I am waiting on a patient advocate to reach out. I have contacted the Board of Health and my insurance provider to let them know of these complaints. I don't want to be charged for gloves not used, medication not given, or sheets and cleaning of the room. I will pay labs, xray cost, but that's it. Save yourself and go to St Vincent or Community, Franciscan. Anywhere but Methodist. I have plenty of photos to back all of these claims up so as not to be found libel or slandering. read more

I came in for a full thyroidectomy. I have been in pain and fighting to get pain medicine when got fixed the next doctor came in and changed my orders to 8 hours while I lay her in pain not being able to sleep!!!! read more

They have the worst ERs in the state. You wait for hours at a time watching other people who came in after you walk right in. The girl at the desk was rude and didn't care how long you have been waiting. I walked out and went to IU west. Stay away from this hell house. read more

was impressed with this hospital. Everyone was amazing with one exception and I'll go into detail about that towards the end of my review. We will start with surgery waiting. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful from Sharrie at the desk to the friendly attitude and patience from Benetta the pharmacy tech. There was a huge list of medications to review. There was another nurse who took care us in surgery waiting. She was also wonderful and I'm sorry I can't recall her name. My husband and I are both in mid seventies and remembering names is difficult at times. My husband, Dan, was there for vascular surgery. His Doctor was Dr "Ragu", he was awesome. Great followup and good bedside manner. He drew pictures several times to clarify any questions. My husband had some complications from the surgery and the whole surgery team helped to resolve them. The Day shift nurses were exceptional. Michelle, the charge nurse, was there for us the first full day. Garrett was the other nurse for the last 2 days. They showed compassion, and I believe they truly care about patients. They were very competent in treating his pain and listening to concerns. They both followed thru with any request and promises. Both of these nurses need an A+ and a pay raise! Ok now for the negative which was due to only one night nurse. His name was Josh. It started when I asked for blankets. I had been staying at a hotel the other nights but day nurse said they'd bring me in a cot for the night. So I did stay in room with my husband. At about 7pm was when I opened door into hallway. Josh (I found out his name later) was standing there and I asked him for blankets. He said did you press the button. I said no. He said you need to press the button but what did you need, and I repeated the blanket request. He said well you need to press the button. So I wasn't sure at this point if he was going to bring blankets or not. So I waited about 20 minutes. Pressed the button and requested 2 blankets. Waited about 90 minutes. I opened door and a young nurse was walking down the hallway and asked if she could help. I told her I just needed 2 blankets. She said of course I'll be right back. In less than 2 minutes I had my blankets. My husband pressed the nurse button for his night meds about 9pm. Abuut 10pm, Josh came into hospital room and walked over to the standup computer. He introduced himself to my husband. Dan asked him, Do you know why I'm still here? Josh said no. Dan said oh I thought maybe theyd pass info on at shift change. Josh said no I don't know but you can tell me. So my husband explained his situation. Josh asked, so what meds do you need. Dan said, well my night meds. Josh then started listing all of his medications. Dan said well just the ones I take at night. My husband has myasthenia gravis, a history of seizures, essential tremors and now this surgery for aneurysm. So he has long list of meds. Josh says so do you want melatonin. Dan said no. Josh asked do you want Baclofen. My husband doesn't normally take this on regular basis but that first morning he had severe abdominal cramping from surgery anesthesia and doctors decided this muscle relaxer might help to relieve pain. I spoke up from my cot and said since cramping pain has greatly diminished, maybe you don't want a muscle relaxer, it might impact your bowels. Surgeon was not going to release Dan until he had Bowel movement. Josh then says gruffly to my husband, so do you want the baclofen or not. Dan says yea I guess. Dan then told Josh he need some more laxatives that had been prescribed and administered earlier by Garrett on day shift. Josh said he'd have to contact his doctor and he'd be right back. As Josh was leaving, he looked at me and said, sorry miss for the misunderstanding earlier, I was just really busy. He said did you get what you needed. I said yes, but hours later. He says that was because everyone was so busy! We didn't see Josh until about 2am and he told Dan he had messaged doctors but was still waiting. Dan also had problems with nurse button not working and he needed help with emptying urinal. He finally sat up in bed and moved towards edge to set off bed alarm. A young nurse came in, took care of urinal and plugged in his remote with nurse alarm button which had pulled out of the electrical socket. I only mention this just in case it was brought up later by anyone. This long story may not seem like much to readers but it's very disheartening when you don't get the respect and care that you deserve under such stressful situations for surgery and hospital stay. I know most patients don't speak out when dealing with incompetent nurses but more folks need to speak up. Maybe Josh was just having a bad night. But I truly suspect this is how he treats patients on a nightly basis. read more

Worst place to get treatment. They did a catheter and placed my urine on the same table where they put food and drink for me. they did not remove the urine until I asked them too. they did not give me any treatment until I asked for Tylenol. Two Tylenol they gave me is the only treatment I received. I could have taken this at home. read more

I thank God for all the people who helped me when I had my stroke. The EMT's, nurses, doctors and the stroke team. They are AMAZING!

For my first visit here, I was told to park in Garage #4. But either I did not understand the instructions after that or wasn't told correctly. I took notes during the conversation but no mention was made of the sky bridge from parking to the building. I ended up walking the streets for 30 minutes to get to the main entrance at 1701 Senate which is pretty far from Garage #4. I did not understand the reference about the "old part." Eventually after struggling with the wrong elevators for another 15 minutes I found where I was supposed to be but there was no signage labeling the area as was told to me. It was the right place but had different signage of what department it was (CICC). During my first visit here for a phlebotomy, after experiencing two extremely uncomfortable sticks for an IV at IU West ER (not my choice but sent there by my cardiologist) which resulted in two huge bruises, this tech stuck me two more times and failed to get a blood flow. She sent for IV specialists who used an an Echo to find a better vein and succeeded in achieving the best flow of all three phlebotomies in the past three years at University and Bloomington Infusion. After multiple attempts to get a timely appointment with a hematologist from other facilities in the past three weeks, the head nurse here contacted my requesting doctor and finally got me an appointment this month in this department. Two weeks after my first visit, I'm back for a second visit at this facility to meet with a new hematologist. It took one hour of waiting to see the doctor. Then I went back to their blood draw station and waited a half hour. The CICC department is slow in my opinion. Slower than the other five IU facilities I go to. I need more tests performed to figure out what is wrong with me but will not be getting those until the end of June. It has already been a month of testing so far. I find the layout of this hospital complex to be confusing. I understand buildings have been added onto and saw their attempt to help by labeling the hallways and providing maps at the various different elevator banks. But I think there is room for improvement with more signage. For instance there are multiple surgery waiting rooms but no sign explaining which one it is or what kind of surgery it serves. I was looking for a family member undergoing surgery the same day of my visit and never found them. Edit: Today, a month after posting this review, I ate in the cafeteria and selected the hot entrees line. I chose the Meat Lasagna and cooked Vegetables which were Green Beans and Carrots. The food was pretty good for institutional type dining. read more

I was glad to see the heart stations are well marked after walking down a long hall from the garage. It is easier to enter from the main lobby if you can be dropped off. Otherwise, you'll need to walk from one of the two parking garages. The information desk is extremely helpful regardless of the questions. The various departments are well marked and in patients are easy to locate. The various physicians and departments I have dealt with have been informative, kind, and compassionate. My sister-in-law was just admitted a few weeks ago for quadruple by pass surgery. The surgeons were quick to keep us up to date and informative. The nurses were beyond belief with their excellent care and extremely compassionate. My sister-in-law is now home, and we are so grateful for the excellent care from everyone. I would not hesitate to be admitted to Methodist Hospital. read more

A friend is inpatient here and I am very, very surprised by how unclean the room is. The floor is filthy. I am also surprised at how unresponsive the nurses are and they make you feel like you're bothering them whenever the patient needs attention. The place seems to be understaffed. I saw Dr. L. Motaganahalli recently as I used to see Dr. Lemmon years ago. As a person with hypermobility, I have a few vascular issues that make daily life less than pleasant. They're supposed to get checked every few years. My sports med doctor referred me for vascular testing due to vascular issues in my groin when cycling. I have a history of vascular issues in my lower body from improper cycling positioning in my youth, and cycling is one of the few sports I can still pursue. I called ahead to the vascular lab to let them know that putting me on a treadmill won't show anything, and I need to be on a bicycle. They assured me that they can test for anything. The lab tech was amazing. She answered all of my questions and was a complete pro. The doctor, not at all. We spoke for about half an hour. He wanted to send me back to physical medicine, when I had already been there. I asked him for a BICYCLE specific test, as I have more than a thirty year history of bicycle-related vascular issues and pelvic floor problems. Nothing. He said he would look into a physical therapy recommendation. He never did. I called back and emailed, begging for a recommendation, as the vascular issues continued to worsen - no recommendation. His front of house person, Jennifer, called me twice, and told me to "see my GP." I asked for a recommendation for physical therapy. Nothing. The lack of empathy and care from him and his office is beyond the pale inappropriate and unprofessional. He is no Dr. Lemmon. I can't believe I trusted him. read more

Updating my review here to reflect our recent experience at Methodist in the labor and delivery and post natal departments. The care we received the nurses and doctors was incredible through and through. We were impressed by the rooms, food, educational aspects of the hospital and overall experience from start to finish. Knowing how many folks tend to prefer to head north for their delivery, I wasn't expecting as great if an experience as we had. From our thorough and patient anesthesiologist to the super sweet nurses and doctors who coached us through delivery, it was a very positive experience. Notes that once you're there, food options can be limited beyond a coffee shop and the in-house cafeteria. However, we didn't mind the cafeteria food one bit. read more

Unfortunately, in the last few months we have had a lot of experience at local hospitals and I have to say that IU Methodist had been the best. I've been inpatient on the Fourth floor for several days. The nurses are ok most of them altho ibe had some with attitudes. But they don't come a lot of the time when I call them claim they don't get the message. The Dr's aren't listening to me I feel like I'm being ignored and not taken seriously and they haven't addressed or fixed my pain. They advocate about patient care and rights but don't practice what they preach. I have issues they should be addressing but they arent and i told them I'm not leaving until they do. ​ read more

I am a nurse. I have had Scleraderma and Lupus since I was a child. I thought my medical record spoke for itself. I was transported from Witham who spoke to my IU rheumatologist. Who asked for a direct admit. I was treated like a pariah. Treated like a drug seeker. Unethical things and professional things were said. I will be obtaining counsel. Your patient advocate blocked my letter to CEO. How I was treated should never had happen. Dismissed me. Basically, your terminal and what do u want us to do about it. 6 hours of was taken via ambulance and intubated at Ascension. Your ER manager just defended their staff. read more

Horrible place to go. This used to be the best hospital in Indy. It's now like the old wishard. Nobody cares about u. U need ur nurse or pain meds after a reconstructive surgery and they hang up on you and refuse to help you. I didn't want to come here because I hate it and they killed my daughters mom, and several others I know. I was forced to come here due to no trauma center in the area and wish, I just felt with the pain until I saw an ortho surgeon outside of this place. i been held hostage over a week. If I do t let them treat me like shit, I do t get my walker or any help from them. They do t care if ur dead they just do t want to help read more

I have no idea why the page is named after some type of insurance plan or whatever when reviews + pictures are clearly about a hospital. So Methodist Hospital is a bit outside downtown Indianapolis, easily accessible from I-65 or any number of city roads. This is your large, old building type of hospital. And because it is so old, a lot of Indiana Firsts in medicine happened right here. And because it is so old, there will be hallways that don't make a lot of sense. Or entrances that look like entrances but aren't, or exits that look like exits but can't be used as them. Or buildings that seem connected but actually are isolated. Some pro-tips: If you are trying to get to the Emergency Room, it is just off of 16th Street and Senate Avenue. There is a small parking lot and a parking garage there as well. Metered parking is available along Capitol Avenue Speaking of Capitol Avenue, there is non-metered street parking north of 19th street on Capitol. Even though this hospital is away from IU Health's main campus, it is connected by the People Mover. The parking garage near the ER has a People Mover stop. There are two Professional Buildings accessible within the main hospital through a somewhat complicated series of elevator challenges or an even more complicated maze of stairwells. Cafeteria food is popular with the staff. Today oddly had an ice cream vendor which wasn't exactly popular with it being 5 or so degrees outside. There is also an Au Bon Pain, Copper Moon, and Sonny's Pizza. The non-cafeteria vendors tend to keep longer hours while the cafeteria is only available for specific meal times. Need some quiet time? Go to the chapel. Almost no one uses it. And there is a super 1990s TV in there, if you know where to look. read more

I am writing this review because the low rating of this excellent hospital almost caused me to go somewhere else. I had both a massive nose bleed requiring 3 units of blood and 2 rhino rockets and clots in my lungs. I was transferred to Methodist because I am told Interventional Radiology was available in case I needed cauterized as they took out my Rhino rocket and started heparin to treat my clots. I have been to 3 hospitals during this sickness and this one by far has given me the best care. The ENT was immediately at my side as soon as I arrived to remove the Rocket. It was painful but the doctor was being as gentle as he could and so very respectful. I did end up having another nose bleed where it needed packed but the ENT graciously didn't use a rocket and when I begged her not to pack both sides she listened. Another ENT spent a considerable amount of time speaking with my husband and said he believes bilateral Rhino rockets should be illegal. All of the nursing staff went above and beyond. In hopes they see this, Bryan and Katie are the best. Yes, it's an old building and people may write bad reviews saying it's dirty but it's not. Just like all things old the building doesn't shine but the staff certainly do. I haven't been able to sleep more than 1 hour in 2 weeks. Last night my nurse (Bryan) did everything he could to help me sleep. I felt safe with him and he was genuinely happy to report to me I had slept 5 hours. read more

The place is clean an seems sanitized. The staff: Never The same nurse twice and after being here for approximately 14 shifts, my family member has only had 3 pleasant, respectful, professional ones (that's NOT good). Especially those that lace compassion. How can one work in this field and LACK compassion? Some nurses, enter w/o introducing themselves to the family and some many won't talk to the patient. I like when they explain to my niece who they are, and what they are going to do; that's respectful. One mail nurse was reading a book (novel) while my family was running a 104° temperature and his other patient's family was asking when he was coming to check on thier loved one. I heard him tell them that he was coming shortly; it was busy...I guess so, if you're reading a book until 15 minutes before shift change. I notice that the air condition goze on FROZEN once office ours are over...what's up with that? Are you or your staff ATTEMPTING to freeze us out of visiting?...that's not an option with loved ones in ICU. DO BETTER! read more

By now, many of my fellow Yelpers have heard about my recent battle with brain cancer. I had no idea that I had a fist sized tumor in my right temple until I had a massive seizure that caused me to throw myself to the flow, striking my side table next to my bed so hard with my jaw that I broke the legs off! I don't remember any of that but remember waking in the hospital with a breathing tube in my mouth and feeling somewhat confused. Within a few days my surgery was scheduled and they successfully removed a small high grade tumor as well as the massive low grade tumor. I spent nearly a week in the hospital and must say that everyone I came into contact with was friendly and caring and encouraging, so I felt the care I received throughout my stay (and my recent follow up visits) has been excellent. Even the food from the cafeteria was pretty good. Not high cuisine, but palatable and with enough diversity that I felt like I had decent choices for each meal. In fact, my only complaint is that they could boost their WIFI since over the course of the week, there wasn't much I could do other than take naps. Streaming on my phone was not very successful. But honestly, I probably needed the naps to recover from the huge surgery (42 staples needed) more than I needed to watch some episode of a tv show. I feel like the staff was so upbeat and supportive including helping my wife and I find our way around the hospital. If anything, they may have given too much information upfront since I am not well versed in medical and medicinal terminology. Fortunately, my wife takes great notes and was able to coordinate all my follow-up appointments for me and to fill my pill box so that I took the right pills at the right frequency. When I met with the surgeon and oncologist, I felt they explained things in terms I could understand and they prepared me for the upcoming challenge of the multi cycle treatment plan which starts next week. I understand what each phase is supposed to provide and with so many ways of attacking my disease, I am confident that I will one day be back to my independent self. It won't be easy, but I felt each doctor and nurse I dealt with cared about me and did their best to make sure I knew they were in this fight with me. On my follow up visit where I was fitted with a radiation mask, I met a completely different set of staff and each of them was equally helpful whether it was on getting registered, or someone escorting us to the right department for our appointments. Just wonderful people who are doing their best to help the patients in their care. What more can a patient ask for? I am thankful for the good folks at Methodist who literally saved my life. And despite having an initial prognosis of only having 15 months if I don't continue with treatments, their support and plan gives me hope that I will one day be back to writing more reviews as I explore our state, one county at a time. Methodist is a great place and benefits with its connection to the greater IU Health organization including the Goodman Hall Neuroscience center across the street. Have been here for 4and half hours. Everyone is standing sitting on their phone or laughing talking while 25 ppl are waiting sick, bleeding. And not to mention everyone that has walked in has all got medicine before seeing a doctor. Then they have you go back out in waiting room. Everyone I am not playing even kids. This review is based on my husband's experience on 11/25/23. He had a high fever for which he was advised to go to the ER by the on-call doc at our surgeon's office. They went through the usual ER process. He was treated with IV antibiotics because that was all that was needed. After about 5.5 hours, we were told he could be released because he was okay. However, he was not released until we had sat in that room for almost 6 more hours. We'd check every so often about the release paperwork. The nurses and technicians (bless them) didn't know why the doc hadn't submitted it each time we checked. Finally a different ER doc came in around 6 AM or so and said they were trying to get a hold of our surgeon's office to confer on what antibiotic Rx to send home with us. We were told that the surgeon's office had not returned the ER's call and were asked if my husband still wanted to go home. He said if nothing else is wrong, yes I want to go home. This was and is the ridiculous part. We didn't have to lose approximately 11 hours because they didn't receive a call back. Also, they couldn't run the insurance correctly because of technical issues and they tried to give him pain medicine that he isn't supposed to take. So maybe the 2nd ER doc didn't read his chart? Makes us nervous. Also, we will likely be billed for all the time spent that was unjustified. The doc should have told us what was going on. So now we have even more red tape to go through. We've been at this hospital many times in the last few years because my husband has had some severe health issues. Now the billing staff is asking us to call our insurance company to figure out why the hospital's billing vendor can't get our card to go through. I am without words. read more

In 2016, I went into the ER with severe pains in my right arm and right leg. The doctor in ER visually looked at me and said I was having muscle spasms. I told him that I'd had muscle spasms before ... this was not a spasm. He dismissed me. Later that evening, I was back in ER by ambulance. A different ER doctor looked at the earlier doctor's notes and ignored what I was saying. He agreed with the earlier doctor ... spasms. Trying to believe that the doctors at Methodist knew their work ... I travelled that weekend. When I returned Monday, I had the pain again, all on my right side. My husband refused ambulance service to Methodist (life saving decision). He argued with them until they agreed to take me to IU West Hospital in Avon, IN. When I arrived, within 10 minutes, an ER doctor mentioned "possible atypical symptoms". Within 1 hour of asking me questions, LISTENING to me, and running tests, they found that I'd had a series of several heart attacks that started the first time I went to Methodist. *Side note: I gave Methodist another chance in January 2018. I couldn't digest food and I was vomiting uncontrollable. They said I was fine ... a little dehydrated. They swabbed me and said I did not have a cold or flu. I was able to get into my doctor that week. I did have a stomach flu!! After a few days of antibiotics, I was able to hold food down. Meanwhile, I lost 10 pounds within 12 days! I'm not saying the hospital isn't good. I'm saying, be your own advocate! Do not leave if they dismiss you!!! Either make them listen, ask for another doctor, or go to IU West Hospital in Avon ... they know what they're doing! read more

My Sister-in-law, brother and I took my brother to Methodist ER due to complications he had been experiencing. We arrived at the ER on 6/23/23@10 pm and stayed in that ER until 2pm 6/24/23. The initial greeting at the information desk on the day of arrival was good. The wait time to get in an ER bay was good. His night nurse Darian was attentive and their was an intern that night that was attentive when she finally came to assess him which we probably had been waiting for a physician to assess him for about an hour. By 3am, we were told he was going to be admitted to University Hospital. His vitals were taken at 5am and BP was elevated. No one treated his elevated BP/ the physician never came back and no physician saw him again until he was transferred to University Hospital at 2pm on 6/24/23. As a Nurse of 26yrs, I was totally embarrassed from the profession that I love. This was the most horrible experience for me, sister-in-law, and brother but especially for my brother who desperately needed medical attention. The attention was given to frequent individuals who the personnel knew by name because they are in that ER dept every week after having a drunk episode. This experience did teach me something. I now know that this is a place I would not go to get medical care because I know if I have to go to ER first, the chances of me getting any care is low unless I came in and was drunk. read more

Bad bad care if you are inpatient on the neurology floor. The hospital itself is great for emergencies but beyond that they need major help. The doctors were fantastic however the nursing staff is so overwhelmed it's negligent. I was in for a three day video eeg which monitors for seizures. Before Rhett put the things on I told them that the last time I had an allergy and they shrugged. They put in an iv and said I was a fall risk and couldn't get up at all unless I paged the nurse. I was purposely drinking less to not have to pee with someone watching me. No one offered me fluids on the entire first day. My meds weren't offered. My iv lock wasn't flushed for 29 hours when it should be flushed every 8. I complained and they started flushing the iv and stuff. I wanted my husband and two kids to stay no other hospital has ever cared about this before. Methodist refused. My scalp started to get horribly itchy and I decided to go home last night. No one came to let me out keeping me prisoner there. Today I was released and when they pulled off the sensors I had huge weeping sores. They didn't even give me gauze for them or a bandaid for where they removed the iv! I was just stuck leaving here pressing gauze to my arm and bleeding from my head! They didn't change my sheets even one time while I was there. My room wasn't cleaned and the food is awful. If it's not a trauma needing a level 1 trauma care or icu go elsewhere read more
