Ivan is very personable and chatty and my son liked his haircut but the entire set up may not be for everyone. It's VERY cramped, parking is odd (but well explained in a text ahead of time). If you have any sort of allergy (pet, smoke, etc) you may want to avoid. read more

Went to get completely buzzed down bc 2nd chemo treatment left my head almost bald but very light patches all over and wouldnt be completely bald until my next chemo treatment in a week. Ken fit me in right after the customer he had in his chair. He was very nice to talk to. At the end when I asked how much, he said no charge, gave me a card to call him whenever I need for it growing out weird at first after treatment. His kindness truly made my day and this cancer journey just a tad bit easier! read more

This place is what you think of when you think about a barber shop. Being able to talk to the other customers and barber while you're getting cleaned up. Truthfully I decided to go with Ivan's when I read the owner's response to a critical review in yelp. That kind of attitude is what I like to see from a business. Super friendly is how I would describe this place. I left feeling good cuz as everyone knows 80% of feeling good is looking good. I regret having to write this review because I have been a patron at Ivan's for a long time with the former owners and the new owner, and I really enjoyed going there. Disappointingly, Ken the newest owner raised the price of a haircut 29% from a very reasonable $14 to a whopping $18. Add in the 20% tip I've always given, and a simple 15 minute haircut now costs me $21. I'm now paying Ken $72 an hour cash to cut my hair, which has gone from a good ol' fashioned barber shop price to a high-end shop for downtown Denver, only nothing except the price has changed. I can get my hair cut by a number of other Aurora small business barbers for $12-$14 with the same straight razor neck shave. When I travel every year to see family in New York City, I pay $18 for a haircut at my barber there who has been cutting hair and straight razor shaving for 50 years. I mean no disrespect to Ken who is starting his own business, but I don't expect to pay New York City or Downtown prices in Aurora just because a lot of people from New York are moving here and my barber shop changed owners. I want Ken and his employees to have a successful business and make an honest living wage, and I'd love to contribute to his income, but $72 an hour cash for my simple haircut and with no frills in Aurora is too high for me and the local market. Unfortunately, I'm going to find another barber shop due to such a drastic price in relationship to the norm. I post this review partially to let others know about the recent high price increase at Ivan's for the Denver/Aurora area considering what you get, but also because I assume Ken cares about his patrons and why a long-time one is leaving. I hope he reconsiders his pricing because I'd love to come back. Then again, it's his business, and he can charge whatever he wants. Either way, I wish him luck. read more

Ivan's is THE place to go if you want a great cut from a great barber. It is a family owned and ran business, having transitioned down the family line to continue in the long-time family ownership. My father-in-law looked forward to his trim, not only for the neatening of his appearance, but also for the social time it allowed. We've been taking our son since he was a little guy; while he doesn't get a cut often now, he does drive himself. So I suppose you could consider us long-term family patrons. This is not a cookie-cutter chain place like those shops that hire anyone off the street and because of that, you're also not getting the slack cookie-cutter services. The shop continues to give each of it's patrons the old-fashioned, full-service expectation of what a barber shop should offer. So I read a previous review on here that indicated that a long time patron was leaving because of the extreme cost of the haircuts; gracious me, I'll part with a total of $24 for a haircut that costs $18, leaving a great tip for a great barber. -First point to the increased cost: take a look around, EVERYTHING costs more. -The presumed $72 an hour is not a "pocketed" hourly wage. There are expenses to running a business: wages, insurance, rent, supplies, etc. Additionally, that is based on the assumption that there is literally four customers for every hour of every day, not leaving a tip. -The Denver Metro area, Aurora included, is in the top five fastest growing communities in the country. Basically, he evidently want's the cookie-cutter special, where no one will remember his name, his face, what he likes done and probably will screw it up. However, if you want to be remembered, by name, and get the personal and royal treatment, give Ivan's a try. I promise, you won't regret it. read more

First time there and the last. The owner seems skilled and treats customers very well but the blonde lady looked like she had a rough night and gave me the worst hair cut I've ever had. Now I have to pay another barber to try and fix the mess of a haircut I was left with. read more

Had to find a new barber, when my longtime barber closed its doors last summer. Went to several, then found Ivan's and haven't been anywhere else since. Same cut, every time, never have any complaints, and has the old school atmosphere. Can be a wait at times, but nothing too long, any day of the week. read more

The unfortunate truth of the matter is I'm only rating one "barber" based on one visit ever made. I've never been upset about a bad cut because quite frankly, it's just hair that will grow back. However I do have only 2weeks to grow and fix the mess before a black tie Award event. During my consult before being razored bald I asked for the same thing I've always asked, a low tapper. Essentially long top short around the ears and neck. The lady then replied so a razor fade, at which time I said no let me show you. I then referenced a picture, Hell I even showed a picture of myself with the example. At one point I was asked about a large scar on my head and that's when I knew it was already too short. I informed her it was a scar and it will not blend so don't try. She of course ignored my wishes. As soon as she took the straight blade to the top of the back of my head I was pretty upset because I knew there was no going back. To top it off the forehead line up was taken back over an in and needless to say I'm now wearing a hat everyday dosing collagen And biotin praying it will grow in time to fix the mess. Yes the owner tried to fix it but only after I demanded it. He seemed to have a great skill set however it was too late for me to care. My advice to the owner, when a "50 year career barber asks for a job politely encourage hanging up the clips. All great things must come to an end. I appreciate you trying to fix it but sir I heard from your mouth that very day that I should have taken a swing on the lady that left a scar on the back of my head what should have done after that scalp cut in your shop? read more

I walked into Ivan's Barber Shop and he told me I had 3 people in front of me, I said ok can I come in one hour and he agreed that would be perfect. I come back exactly 1 hour later and boom I got 4 people in front of me. Then he tells me the point is to stay in the shop, excuse me but in today's world why waste my time sitting there when I could come back. If I am late then I lose my spot but I wasn't! SMFH. First and Last time at this barber shop! The sad part is I only came here because of the reviews and I could have referred a lot of military people here but I won't because customer is extremely poor! Follow up to owner reply. If you had told me after you agreed to me coming back in one hour that I would lose my spot in line like you told another walk in customer while I was there then I say yes for my misunderstanding. However, you never provided that valuable information! If you would just apologize for your poor customer service, I would delete my review! I didn't take advantage of the customer who gave me his spot, he clearly saw your BS and offer me his spot after I told him no but he refused and told me to go so I paid for his haircut because I respect what he did. Since you feel like you have to answer to every review on someone opinion on your business then I'll answer your question, I stayed and waited for a haircut because I have a uniform inspection on Monday morning and given the fact I am a high ranking official, I must be sharp at all time. Furthermore, I am new in town and don't know any other barbers but trust me I won't be back to your shop. Think about your business approach, you don't have to answer every review online to cover your a$$. Change your business attitude and give every customer the red carpet treatment. My husband had been there and we've been satisfied. My 1yo just got his haircut and everything went great! It's always hard finding someone who is patient with him and who he trusts. My son would do great with my mom but she doesn't live in Colorado so we needed to find someone to cut his hair here. Needless to say we will be making the drive to keep coming back there. Ok spot, nice people but kids cuts are way too expensive. I have 3 boys and 3 cuts cost $54.00. A cut a piece is $18 +tip. I liked it because of the location... but I can go to other places for them and pay anywhere between $9- $12 a cut for kids. Saves quite a bit of money. If you have kiddos I suggest you go somewhere else to save money. I wont be going back because I can get the same service at other places for cheaper.
