Stopped by this store this week and the owner was at the front desk and never acknowledged we walked in. We asked him a question and found him very arrogant and disrespectful. We were shopping and he came to us to advise the store closed at 3PM , my wife asked him what time it was and he stated it was 2:25! This establishment is not a store it is an outrageously over priced museum. If you ever go by this place do yourself a favor and keep on riding!!! We will never go back....... This antique shop has been one of our favorite shops since they first opened because of the consistently high quality of the antiques, the layout, excellent displays and friendliness of the staff. Sadly, I am writing this review (my very first Internet review of anything) because of the action, or more appropriately the inaction, of one staff member. While at Ivy Hall on a Saturday afternoon, I saw a locked glass case on the second floor that contained some antique woodworking tools (the only case with antique woodworking tools in the shop). Among them was an English/Scottish infill rabbet plane with the price tag placed under the tool and unreadable. All staff members were busy and the day was getting late. With a long drive back to Virginia ahead of us, I decided to leave - but all the rest of that weekend, that infill plane talked to me. Mid-day Tuesday I called Ivy Hall and a gentleman answered. I related the above story and asked if he could please look at the plane and give me some information about it? After a long pause he said: I don't know what information I could give you. I suggested that the price and maker's mark, if any, would be helpful. He next asked where the case was located. I described the area on the second floor and he said "that dealer is gone - He left last week." I explained that the glass case was just next to the empty booth space and he sighed and in an exasperated voice asked which side? By that time I had decided that the ordeal of dealing with this individual was too painful and not worth the pleasure of owning this beautiful little plane so I thanked him, told him he had been a great help and hung up. I was prepared to purchase the plane, which could have cost several hundred dollars depending on the maker but because of one staff member's reluctance to be helpful and make a sale. This antique store has some quality items but keep in mind you will pay the quality price. It is definitely worth stopping in and looking because there are some great items! While there over the weekend I saw some nice furniture pieces and interesting carnival/circus pieces as well as an anatomy maniquin for medical students. A few of the vendors have some interesting large signs etc but again, expect to pay a fair price. read more

STAY AWAY if you unless you don't mind being deceived by goods with damage and repairs not noted on the tags. I bought an early piece of glass and as soon as I got it in good natural light I noted a star crack. Did not notice their policy that ALL SALES ARE FINAL even when damage is not noted affecting value by hundreds of dollars. Noted other major repairs on pottery not noted on tags. The person I talked to on the phone, who I believe was manager or owner said he would do nothing even though there was intent to deceive. DISHONEST!!!! read more

Beware! I bought a crock from vendor 21HRM and it was not what it seemed. The crock had been extensively "doctored" to cover up cracks and then painted over. I have to admit it was a good cover-up job, but a cover-up job it was. When I got the piece home and had time to look at it in the light, it became clear that I had been "had" Of course the vendor and manager will not take it back because I scraped off some of the cover-up to make sure of what I was seeing. I guess they didn't care about anything except being able to sell it again. Vendors that sell camouflaged junk and management that tolerates that kind of vendor is not where I want to spend my money. We have always frequented this shop as we live in Frederick and it is always a nice job and a get away destination. This past weekend, we were there looking specifically for some holiday antiques and memorabilia. After looking both upstairs and downstairs, we contacted the young man who had the keys to look and set aside the items that we were going to purchase. As others on here have said, their prices are high, but the quality of antiques is worth it. My guess is that our total was going to come to somewhere between $1800-$2100 with PA 6% sales tax. Imagine my dismay when I found out that they don't take credit cards anymore !!! I don't know how a shop of this caliber does not take credit cards. I am a small business owner and know the cost of using credit cards as forms of payment, but we use them and write off the charges. There are many companies out there that offer extremely low credit card processing and the owner should look into these. We do not carry check books with us anymore as we don't use checks in any place that we shop. I certainly do not carry $2100.00 in cash on me at any given time...not even on vacation. Get into the 21st century Ivy Hall. You are losing both customers and money over this policy.... read more

First of all, I love this store and everything in it. We were picking up my son from New Jersey, and heading back to Chicago. We went out of our way because I love this store and had been there a couple other times. This time was very disappointing. My husband had a couple banana peels and a couple empty soda bottles to throw out. He was hoping there would be a trash can before he entered the store. Since he didn't see one he asked the gentleman at the counter if there was a trash can where he could put the trash. After a long pause, my husband asked if he could throw it in the trash can in the bathroom. The gentleman responded saying that's up to you. My husband repeated what he said trying to figure out what the problem was because he seemed to have an attitude. I forget what else was said but after my husband left I heard the man talking to someone about a man that came in wanting to throw garbage away and making it sound like my husband was a problem. I didn't say anything but I thought he was very rude. I was tempted not to buy anything and just leave but I figured I'd let it go and make my purchase anyway. It was just very disappointing since it made my visit much less enjoyable than the other 2 times. It's a shame for someone to be chasing customers away like that. It was certainly uncalled for and we just wanted to throw some trash away since our van was so full. Hopefully I can overlook it and come back again in the future because I really do love the store and everyone working there except one man. read more

This shop is by far the best antiques mall in the area. If you are looking for good, early antiques this is the place to shop. Yes, the prices are indicative of the quality, but yes, you still can find some bargains here. If you are going to New Oxford, go a few extra miles for the BEST! read more

Hard to imagine any other antique shop with such a fabulous assortment of antiques - whether you love formal, country, folk, etc. it was all there. Wouldn't think of being in the area without stopping here. read more
