Great Mexican/American food! Restaurant is always clean, does not feel small town as sometimes the decor in small town restaurant can be 'worn in'. Big city in decor, service and food quality. Ive been here a few times and never impressed. The last time, I ordered fresh guac to go with my chips, and they brought a small bowl of guac; if you order fresh guac at El Tapatio (a few miles down road), they bring all the ingredients to table and make it fresh/put on a lil show; the Most amazing guac but Ixtaps was horrible; didnt care for it. When I go to El Tap I get Arroz Con Pollo and am greeted with a huge plate that i can save half of for leftovers and be full twice; at Ixtapa they add lettuce and beans to the plate & its enough for one meal; way smaller portions for very similar pricing, and El Taps is addicting where as Ixtapas is sub par. The service seems ok, but the food portions, taste, etc is not enough to make me like them. This is a great place to take your family for a relatively inexpensive meal. Their servers are always friendly, their portions are good sized and their service is fast. When we come in with our family of seven, we're always able to be seated within five minutes or less, and we're usually in and out within 45 minutes to an hour. That's important when you have five little ones who can have short attention spans! read more

I'd give this place 3.75 stars-the first place I'd ever gone to in the bustling town center of rural scappoose. I didn't expect much, and I got more than I expected. The house special appetizer, sort of a crispy burrito sliced up into finger food was pretty delectable although probably not meant for 2 people. Having not worked out to a heavy extent that day, my appetite was lacking its usual gargantuan vigour. That being said, I also had an entree after that-a chile relleno and a mexican steak. The steak could have been bigger, although it was well-prepared. Atmosphere was nice and bright for an early supper, though it's a shame we weren't there for a live music evening. Those who'd think that scappoose is just full of a bunch of hicks would be pleasantly proven wrong by the quality of food here. At the very least, Ixtapa is a better place to be than La Carreta, the den of bloat where mountains of low-quality cheese top lower quality food. The rice and beans were nice as well and they do have a way with their drinks-having the option of drinking out of a bowl is pretty nice on the days when I'm feeling particularly porcine. Having sworn off cocktails, I was delighted that I could sate myself with a bit of Sauza Commerativo. I didn't have a chance to peruse their bar, but if they had that, it couldn't have been too shabby. These fellas could have done a lot worse, but I'm glad they chose not to. read more

For those of us here in Scappoose, we are fortunate to have a restaurant that is reliable and consistent. We have eaten here probably at least 40 times and the service has always been great and fast. The food is good, too. Sometimes gourmet isn't what you're looking for- you just need a nice place that will be fast and good. We definitely recommend Ixtapa. read more

Visiting for an extended stay in Scappoose. My hosts knew I have been craving Good Mexican food as I was use to when I lived in Phoenix. I was skeptical of course as usual. I needed have worried. The food has been very good here. In the short time I have been here I have eaten here 3 times. Still have 3 days left so may be back again. The first time I was here I had Chimichangas! They were delicious. The second time I just wanted a lunch/snack so tried their nachos. Awesome!!! In Michigan most "Mexican" restaurants just throw a little cheese and some tomatoes and jalapenos and think they have made nachos. And yesterday I ordered the #27 Shredded beef burritos. They were great and huge! Only could eat one of them with the double order of beans I had. The only minor complaints I have is they only melt cheese on top with red sauce. I am use to having lettuce and tomatoes diced on top too. Very minor. Also the $6 Margarita was a little on the small side. Again only minor. I highly recommend this little strip mall restaurant. read more

It is a good place to eat if you like 10 ingredients cooked 57 ways. Luckily those ingredients are fresh and tasty. The pricing is reasonable. They take reservations and can accommodate a large group. Oh and they are FAST FAST FAST!!! read more

Been here several times, and its been just meh, nothing to write about. Until tonight....I always order a Cadillac Margarita at every Mexican restaurant, but theirs had been below average( and small). So I ordered the "Perfect Margarita" Mucho Size (+2.00) It tasted like they made there normal weak margarita put it in a larger glass(which is a normal glass everywhere else), and topped it off with the top part of the unshaken carton/bottle of orange juice, then add a big splash of lime. I don't know if it was the mix or the orange juice, but it was extremely sour, and tasted no alcohol. The only reason we go there is my wife loves their chili rellenos. She got a combo plate and ordered a shredded beef enchalada with it, and got ground beef. She mentioned it to the waiter, and he said asked if we wanted it replaced or just leave it? Well he didn't come by tell the end of our meal so we told him we didn't want another one and just take it. Most places I know would knock a couple of dollars off the bill, but apparently not here. read more

It was very claustrophobic. Restaurant was dusty and dirty. The entire entrance set up was confusing. Food was ok. Service was ok. Pricing was ok. Food was good, nothing special. The service was awful. We were never greeted. After 5 minutes waiting they finally seated us. We were given chips and water right away and then nothing for 20 minutes. Finally a man came and apologized because we were about to walk out. There was two other tables! That's all! We ordered, it came out quick. A lady came and asked if I wanted a refill and then never seen her or the waiter ever again. Got up and went to front and they handed us a check. Me and my family went out to the pumpkin patch on Sauvies island and decided to go explore a bit. We saw the sign for Ixtapa and decided to give it a try. When we got their everything was going good the staff was friendly and efficient. When I looked at the menu though I noticed that it was not really Mexican food but food inspired by Mexican food. Me and my husband decided to give it a try either way. We ordered the nachos and the jalapeno poppers. They were okay not something I would recommend but if you are really hungry portions here are huge. We were enjoying the ambiance that we decided to order another round of drinks. After that we decided to go. The waitress told us that when we were ready we could pay her or up at the register my husband left first to pay while I was putting on my sons jacket and while I was walking out a short lady that was busing tables stopped me and said if I had already paid. ARE YOU SERIOUS? Yeah food was was not good but I would never leave anywhere without paying. I held back my laughter and told her that my husband was paying at the register. She still looked confused like she did not believe me. Honestly that is very insulting that she would think I would dine and ditch with my family. I guess if you are not a regular they do not trust you. Or maybe because we did not order entrees they thought we did not have money to pay for a meal. I regretted given it a try and after I told my husband we both regretted not trying something else in the area. read more
