They gave a detailed review of the trees in question, and after close examination, determined they did not need to come down at this time. As you can see from the photos, I had some trees that were falling into my neighbor's yard. My regular tree guy recommended J&D, saying they're the only ones who could handle this job. Boy was he right! Dan came with a 90-ton (maybe 110-ton) crane and within no time at all his team of highly professional men took care of business. I was so sorry to see these trees go but I feel a little better knowing the mulch is going to a good home. Yes, they are expensive but in this case at least - you get what you pay for. We used J & D Tree Pros again to take down a tree at the front of our house, that had developed a canker. We are having some work done around the tree which would weaken it even more, so it was too risky to keep it. This time around we were able to get on J & D's calendar pretty quickly. They had to come out a second time for another quote since we waited so long in between quotes before deciding to move forward. Luckily we are at the stage where we don't care about our lawn, so they were able to get right up to the tree. Everyone showed up on time day of, they were quick and efficient. They did a great job cleaning everything up as well. We will certainly continue to use J & D-- although I really hope we don't have to cut down any more trees! read more

J & D Tree Service removed a very large oak tree from my back yard. Because the tree was in a very tight place with landscaping, valuable trees and a fence on all sides, a crane was necessary. They did an excellent job. The price was high, but I would not have trusted any of the other companies I interviewed to get this tree down. I wasted a little over $350 trusting J D tree pros. I was supposed to get a chip drop of mulch. They pulled my name from the waiting list (about 2-3 weeks long right now) and called me saying they may be here after lunch. I called after lunch and they confirmed they would be here in an hour. I hired a bobcat, operator, and a laborer to move all the mulch for me. I am a disabled vet and I also recently broke my hand so it would be near impossible for me to do this on my own. J D tree service never showed. When I called in the morning and explained the situation they just said "Oh", and nothing else about it. I don't do business with people who don't honor their word and especially those who don't care about what their lies have caused others to go through. read more

I have used J&D in the past with no problem. I was getting my yard ready to put a pool in and need 25+ trees removed. I called J&D to come give me an estimate. He showed up unannounced at 7pm on a Friday night. That was OK. Well that was the last I heard from them. Called the office 3 weeks later to follow up and the lady said she needed to check with the owner and would get back with me. That was my final contact with them. I Can't See it From My House A neighbor hired J&D Tree Pros to remove several trees that fell victim to the winds of Hurricane Michael. The two trees split at their base and leaned over two separate properties. Each one put the homeowners' buildings at risk. About two months after the storm, J&D removed a couple of trees with a crane at the house diagonally behind us. Then on Sunday, they showed up to remove the tree hanging over my neighbors' shed. The next door neighbors were out of town, but the crew from J&D began work on removing the trees anyway. They managed to block most of the street with their equipment. When I came home from a workday, I had to park up the block. No biggie, I can walk. But when I got to my driveway I saw with the mess they were making. The skid steer operator dug up my yard with his machine as he dropped section after section of the tree on the street in front of my home. The skid steer could have gone straight to the street without having to venture into our yard. But their truck wasn't parked to allow this. None of the J&D workers noticed this. No one tried to move the truck to stop the damage to our yard. They didn't care. I didn't realize it at first, but the skid steer tracks were tearing up what once was a green section of our yard. They dug in under the heavy load of the machine, time after time as it carried huge sections of the tree to the road. The amount of wood was impressive, but I figured they would load their trucks with it to complete the job on the day they started it. Nope! It got dark, they dropped the last section of tree on the road and packed up. Nice! They left a pile of wood about the size of a minivan next to the mangled section of our front yard. The wood was covering a massive pile of leaves raked to the curb for the Town of Cary to vacuum before Thanksgiving. Of course, the leaf sucker showed up right on schedule Monday morning. Everyone else's leaves disappeared into the TOC truck. My leaves were inaccessible thanks to the mountain of wood left behind by J&D Tree Pros. I called J&D Tree Pros to see if they were going to make things right. I spoke with a nice receptionist who gave my message to one of the owners. Later that day, one of their workers came by and picked up the tree sections. He was sorry about the mess the skid steer operator made and understood why I wasn't happy. This seemed like a good sign. Would the local guys fix the mess they made? Fast forward to the evening. One of the owners called me to see what I made me angry. Good first step, or so I thought. Then he launched into a rant about the danger he faced while working the trees. He whined about the lack of profit from the job. He did not understand that we live diagonally across from yard with the trees they removed. He made it clear that he didn't care what his crew did to my yard. I was calm, but realized that nothing would happen to make it right for us. It was telling that they didn't try to make it right. No way would I ever call J&D Tree Pros for any work on my property. Today I was believing my trees were safe but today was the day J & D came and removed the oldest oak tree in the area. The tree was fine. Bartlett's gave me a complete assessment and said that the trees are very healthy and will have a long life span. J & D said the tree had been pruned last year by them after a branch had fallen on a neighboring patio, but after the pruning the resident still wanted the tree removed. It does not seem right for a chain smoker to demand removing a tree with some branches over her patio that is not dangerous since it is properly pruned. It costs neighbors thousands of dollars to remove the tree and we no longer have the enjoyment of its beauty, shade, and wildlife. It was not in her yard or over her roof. The service should refuse to do this when the tree is a beauty over 70 years old and no threat to anyone. read more

We contacted J & D about two very large pine trees that were about 85 ft high. They were very close to and leaning toward our garage. We were concerned about them coming down on the garage. Ricky came out the next day and quoted us a fair price. They came out less than a week later and the trees were gone in about half a day. They left everything clean as if the trees were never there. I contacted J&D Tree Pros to evaluate my six emerald green arborvitae. Several of them were not doing well, and I had heard that there may be a problem with the root system. I contacted J&D Tree Pros and made an appointment (the first one was several weeks out). I was told that there was a two-hour window for the appointment. While not quite understanding why they had to have two hours for arriving, I went ahead and made the appointment. I then received an email confirming the appointment date and time. After reading reviews of their tree removal service, I called again to ensure that they also did evaluations and solutions, not just tree removal. The woman who had originally made the appointment confirmed that the company did both. At this time, she also informed me, for the first time, that the visit would cost $150! Neither during the time I was making the appointment, nor in their confirming email, did she or anyone else let me know that there would be a cost to simply take a look at the issue (which would probably have taken about 20 minutes). I cancelled the appointment. I found the woman who was answering the phone unprofessional, not very pleasant, and irresponsible in not letting me know that J&D Tree Pros actually charged for assessing the situation. None of my other vendors (I am in a new home) ever charged for coming to see what needed to be done and providing me with an estimate. read more

First of all, I would suggest you get several quotes on the work you would have done. I did not, as the T.O.C. notified me that I had a dangerous tree in the front yard and it had to come down. I rushed into calling J & D and they gave me a quote of $3,800 which shocked me as also my friends for that one tree. But what did I know? When they came to take the tree down, they parked in my yard and started to take down a huge tree next door. When it was discovered they were taking the tree down in the wrong yard, they said they quoted me the price for the next door tree and would take the tree in my front and a mostly dead one in the back for the price they quoted me. I have no idea if that is a fair price or not since I had no other companies look at the trees. They had my trees down by noon and then worked a good deal with the neighbors for less money than the $3,800 they first quoted me (honey pot, they call it). Then, without my permission, they used my property in the afternoon to park their crane to take down their tree and came back the next day for 2 1/2 to 3 hrs with a huge truck with a huge claw to load the wood from their tree. I would suggest that if you are a female senior citizen to have family member or a good friend to be by your side though the whole process of dealing with companies to make large purchases. read more

I am writing to let folks know the problem I had with having some trees taken down at my house. In April J&D Tree Pros came to my house. I asked for an individual quote on four trees to have taken out. Three trees were in my front yard and one was in the back yard. The quote I received seemed reasonable but I was also checking with other tree services for their estimates. About three weeks later, I finished getting all the tree estimates and decided to go with J&D Tree Pros. They provided the most detailed quote of all the services and if you respond to their email quote, that constitutes a contract agreement between you and J&D Tree Pros. After some deliberations I decided to only have the trees taken out in the front yard. Because of the reduction of trees taken out I decided that would warrant a new estimate in a contract. This is where the problems began. I had to call back three times to get them to finally come back out for a new estimate. I expected a lower price with only three trees being taken out instead of four. The revised quoted came back $400 higher than the first quote. This effectively priced them out of my price range and I can't help but think this was a bait and switch. I will be thinking long and hard before using their service again in the future. I urge you to be aware of these tactics when shopping for a reliable tree company that will stand behind their quotes. read more
