Overall, WOW! This is a great company with a great system in place for making a basement you love while saving a lot of money and a ton of headache doing it yourself. We were looking for a company that would let us do some of the finishing work to save money on our basement remodel. Several companies were either uncomfortable with this or priced it high like we were not doing the finishing work ourselves. But this company is set up to save money and time! They have the entire process down to a science and as an amature DIYer, I was able to head up the project. We did run into a couple bumps. Mostly with the drywaller dragging their feet and our cabinets not being ordered on time (twice). Both of which messed with our timeline and were the fault of other contractors, not J and J. We also had a couple of billing issues with J and J (double bill for an item, incorrect billing from the electrician and a bill meant for another customer). I would be extra diligent as a client to check all bills before paying for errors. But in the end, these were easily resolved. They were able to turn around a 1,100 sq ft basement with a full bathroom, extensive wet bar, 2 bedrooms and a living area from studs to finished in around 3 months. Super prompt and quality work. I loved that with a couple exceptions, all the supplies and workers came through our basement windows and did not bother us upstairs. Also, they did not set up a dumpster or porta potty both of which would have violated our HOA. I also loved that they handled all of the filing and permitting needed. They were also very good about making the basement how we wanted it, even when we wanted to change the plans a little (i.e. adding a dishwasher last minute). Dan is great! Work was completed ahead of schedule. Jeremy was very professional and provided his professional opinion to actually make the design more modern and desirable. The crew Jeremy uses was polite and considerate of my families needs. After design work from Jeremy was completed, a no hassle contract was provided which outlined time frame and cost. Once contract was signed work began almost immediately. Framing, electrical, and plumbing worked well together which cut timeframe by almost two weeks. Drywall was completed with no issues. I decided to do some work myself to save money. I really appreciated the no hassle not to use his contractors. Although I did call his list of provided contractors, which were all reasonably priced, I still decided to do some work myself which saved me about 3500. The only real issue which was just me being picky was with the plumber. After the bath install the job looked dirty and rushed. (Caulking was messy, and on the tub itself.) I contacted Jeremy and within two days the job was redone to my satisfaction. Communication was easy with all contractors and Jeremy. Couldn't be happier. The way Jeremy does his basements if you follow his timeline and stay on top of yourself the project will be completed very timely. Inspections were completed without issue and final papers were issued. The process was so smooth I have already recommended him to several friends. Jeremy the owner of J&J Construction designed and built our custom 1200 SF basement, with media room & wetbar as well as a full main level renovation to include removing walls, a new kitchen, drywall, paint, flooring & interior trim. Jeremy and his team were always there to answer questions, and we felt at ease knowing our project was being done right. J&J Construction has a wonderful team of sub-contractors as well. We felt very comfortable around all of Jeremy's personnel. There were many challenges with the project do to some structural walls we had removed for a open floor plan concept. When challenges happened, Jeremy was quick to bring all of the necessary people together such as engineers, carpenters, plumber, electrician, etc. to rectify issues so that the schedule was not delayed. We did both projects at the same time, and Jeremy was really good about making sure we had a living space to dwell in as soon as possible, and make us as comfortable as possible during the construction. I have been through 6 home builds including a custom home and finished 2 basements myself before starting what I hope is my last. Jeremy with J&J Construction's bid was significantly lower than the 5 other estimates I received. The project (a full basement to include rerouting the staircase - not a simple task with structural requirements to meet regional building code) included a wet bar, 1000 sq ft game room, extra large bedroom, full bath and an unfinished area for a wood shop with upgraded electrical. I started the project in May 2018 and finished in time for the Super Bowl. Having done many construction projects myself, working with J&J construction was a pleasant experience allowing me the luxury of taking on the pieces I was comfortable with and could finish at my pace. We had our basement refinished with J&J's "Build Your Own Basement" program. The entire process went smooth. I was impressed right out of the gate when Jeremy already had the home builder's original plans for the basement configuration. He put some digital models together and presented them to us. We were sold! He provided an easy-to-follow list of instructions for each phase of the project, as well as a list of preferred contractors for all the things for which we were responsible (e.g., paint, trim, flooring, etc.). Our experience with J&J Construction was excellent! Our basement was done, including our part, in 3 months and the quality is top notch. All the contractors were on time and courteous. When we had our inspections the inspectors commented on how they rarely find any issues with work done by J&J. We had an idea of the layout we wanted but they tweaked it and made it much better. If we were starting over from scratch there is nothing we would change. The final cost was about 30% less than the other quotes we received. I did install the flooring, wetbar cabinets, and paint myself but the rest was done by J&J. Overall we highly recommend J&J Construction! read more

It's been almost a year since JandJ turned our basement into a basement apartment for me, the mother-in-law. Every day I wake up thinking how much I love this place! I used J and J BYOB program to finish my basement. It was a very easy and smooth process. With the BYOB, I hired who I wanted to work with, outside the projects that needed permits. My wife and I also did some of the work ourselves, which saved us a lot of money and taught us how to do some of the work. Compared to other construction companies' quotes I received, we saved a lot of money by choosing J and J. I am very pleased with their work and my finished basement. J&J construction did an excellent job finishing our basement. They completed our 900 sq. ft. basement in about 3 months, and it turned out better than we expected. There were moments when communication wasn't great, but Jeremy was always quick to make things right, which is rare these days. J&J did a good job at what we asked for. We needed a contractor for framing, plumbing, wiring, mechanical and drywall. That was all standard in the package and was completed relatively quickly and professionally. His subcontractors did good work and overall it was a very competitive price. Timing for final inspections was a bit more difficult than it could have been, but we were in quite a rush and it required a bit of synchronization. I would hire J&J again. read more

I did the Build your own Basement option. Overall a good experience that was less expensive than other options and let me have a part in the work. Dan was the supervisor and he was always very responsive and made sure any mistakes were fixed in a timely manner. My only complaint was with the drywall guys who left quite a mess that took about 5 hours to cleanup. Besides that, the experience was good and any problems I had were quickly fixed. read more

It offered us the flexibility to work at our own pace, do certain jobs ourselves to save money, and all with a knowledgeable contractor an e-mail or phone call away if we needed help.
