J&J is not a real business. It is a fraud business. The owner, Jeffrey Eckstrom, will make promise after promise, but not live up to those promises. Instead, he'll only show up when he wants money. If you're under contract with J&J already, get out while you still can. J&J is not a registered business in NY, nor in PA. J&J, along with Jeff, has multiple claims against them/him, and multiple UCC liens against them. My wife and I hired J&J after we didn't do enough homework on the company. We signed a contract in January of 2024 for exterior painting. Jeff, the owner, agreed the work could be done by our requested deadline of July 4. Jeff sent poor quality individuals to pressure wash our house in March. That work was not completed until May. Jeff promised to return within a few weeks to start painting but didnt show up until Late September after additional promises to show up in August. When work started, the crew was very unprofessional. They sat in the work vans for 30 minutes after showing up, worked for an hour, took 30 minute break, worked another hour, took an hour lunch, and then would often leave for the day by 3:00. I started keeping a record of weather, and number of guys that showed up. By the time we fired Jeff Eckstrom and his fraudulent company in late October, they were barely 1/3 done with painting our house, and had only actually worked about 11 full days (if you count the delayed starts with excessive breaks full days) The straw that broke the camels back was when Jeff showed up asking for additional down payment saying he was already in the red on our job. After writing another small check, I thought better of my decision and ordered a stop payment. Glad I did. The guy tried sending new painters he just hired that week, so I put in a stop work order and sent them packing. Best decision I made in regards to working with J&J and Jeff Eckstrom. read more

One of their employees was pressure washing a neighbors house so I asked for a quote to clean my back deck (which is 12x12 or so). He did a terrible job, didn't even clean it, plus left streaks all over. I tried emailing photos and calling multiple times and left two messages. After that, I could no longer leave messages because the mailbox was full. Never was called back so I gave up. Absolutely awful. read more

Unbelievably horrible.... Run from J&J painting. Don't look back.... The owner quoted to drywall and paint my new home build. After not showing up on site to manage his team for months, he marked the job he quoted up another 40% because it was taking longer than expected. Neighbors made comments that the painters spent more time on breaks than actually working. Wasted lots of materials. Quality of work was B- at very best. This was such a bad experience that would almost pay others not to do business with this company. read more

DO NOT HIRE. I wish I had read the reviews on Jeffrey Ekstrom's company before hiring him to paint my cottage in Mayville. When he didn't show up as planned, I tried to reach him to ask when he'd be here. No reply. Then I cancelled the job and requested a refund of my $4K deposit. For weeks, he declined to answer my calls, or answer my emails and he wouldn't answer texts - all of which were polite and businesslike. He clearly blocked me. Eventually he emailed a reply saying he would give me a refund. I got $3K back. He decided to charge me $1k to pressure wash a very small cottage - prep work for the job he did not do. I would not begrudge him payment for the power washing, but $1K was arbitraty and no invoice was offered. I think he charged me the equivalent of at least $250/hr. Highly disreputable. read more

I concur and can totally understand Cynthia's experience with J&J. Mine is similar. I will also agree that his guys seem to be experienced and hard working, but Jeff leaves a lot to be desired. He approached me with an unsolicited bid for painting the interior of my 6200 sf house because he did some work on another part of the project for the GC and said he needed to keep his guys busy over the winter. So we negotiated a mutually agreeable price for priming and painting the trim with quality guarantees against chipping. Payment terms was to be a deposit and balance upon completion. He wanted the larger job of walls and ceilings as well, but I told him that I would be painting the walls myself, and maybe the ceilings at a later time depending on their condition. The total project took 10 of his guys about 3 weeks to complete. During that time Jeff requested progress payments for "cash flow" reasons, which I reluctantly agreed to pay, leaving only a small balance outstanding when they were done. There were three major problems with their work - 1) they over brushed all the crown moulding onto the ceilings so I had to have all the ceilings subsequently painted whether they were in good condition or not, 2) they destroyed a vintage porcelain sink with wire brushes while cleaning, and 3) kitchen cabinets, which were spray painted, were left incomplete and peeling. For all these problems Jeff never apologized once or offered any compensation whatsoever while he was there. Ultimately, I had to pay others to come in and fix their mess on items 1&2. On item 3, Jeff will not return months of phone calls to come back and touch things up. Once again I'll have to pay others to get things right. Jeff seems like a nice guy but is a complete sleazeball. Do not do business with him. And if for some reason you do, absolutely do NOT pay until the work is done to your complete satisfaction. read more
