Their website says that the "gallery shop is an art exhibit all its own", and I agree 100%. There's a little bit of everything here - stickers, jewelry, ceramics, glassworks, bath and beauty products, illustrations, photography, paintings, woodwork...that's all here, laid out in a way that makes it easy for you to browse through the art medium(s) you wish to explore. With hundreds of artists being displayed here, it's super easy to browse and see what local makers are up to. Previously Artsmiths operated out of Mt. Lebanon, so if the name sounds familiar, it's because they were in another neighborhood for over a decade. A big reason they moved to Carnegie was that they were growing to a point that they wanted a better space to host their classes. Yes, the Artsmiths of Pittsburgh is more than a storefront - they're also an art center. Their classes will introduce you to mosaics, embroidery, and more. (If that sounds interesting to you, their website is the best place to keep up with their in-person classes, workshops, and camps.) With the holidays rolling up on us yet again, this is a business you'll absolutely want to visit; you're practically guaranteed to find the perfect gift for someone/multiple someones. I may be biased because I love pinball, but this exhibit is really cool (see photos), and you also get to play a real pinball machine ('Game of Thrones') which is set to freeplay, and is part of the exhibit. The artworks incorporate old, recycled, parts and pieces from pinball machines. I thought it was fascinating. And like I said, his place is really awesome for gifts, artworks, and all kinds of nic-nacs, books, stationary, and other fun stuff, most, if not all of it, made locally in the Pittsburgh area, and a lot of it, featuring a Pittsburgh theme. While browsing the Carnegie farmer's market I came across a vendor who had this store's goods out…read morefront on a table for sale. There was a nice assortment of things to choose from including fingerless gloves and beautiful pottery mugs. They told me if I want to see more then head into the store. I did just that and got to meet up with the owner Eva and learn more about the business. Various artists from all over the country contribute their wares to this shop and some are even local. You can find most anything here from crafted "aliens" to wooden Nativity sets to various types of jewelry, glass, pottery and of course beautiful paintings that adorn the walls. Even Eva herself has some of her own works for sale here. There is so much to look at. She also told me some of the artists do charitable work and you can purchase things such as "cuff" bracelets that will signify the artist who created the piece. The drink mugs were beautiful and some of them had Bible verses on them. I was admiring a green one with a flower on the handle and then I learned that she hoped to get more selection in from this seller within the next week or so. I decided to hold off on my purchase until I saw what was coming in. Some of the merchandise can be pricey but it all depends up the work that is put into them. For example an artist, she was selling had hand drawn images of a few of Pittsburgh's landmarks as a cuff bracelet. It's a bit pricey but she told me all the labor that goes into making the design can be time consuming. They offer workshops and events from time to time. Most of the art is contemporary style with at least 20 different artists in emerging to mid career levels. Check out their on line shop if you want to learn more or make a purchase directly from your home. This shop is currently open Thurs-Sun only and of course you can walk in when the farmer's market is going on. Am definitely planning to return here so I can browse more of the collection. Thanks to him, we found out about a really great hidden gem, and I now want everyone to know how cool this place is. This gallery / studio is located in a private home, yet the owners open it up to the public for art shows and special exhibits. They also have an on-site store. Everything here is so incredible, they did a fantabulous job in both restoring this place to grandeur, and filling it with incredible pieces of art. Look forward to coming back again soon ... It's actually irresponsible of me not to have done so sooner. This is a cool little gallery with lots of vibe. Every now and again they have exhibits with showing open to the public that are a lot of fun. Viewing art, sipping wine and meeting fellow artists, designers and art admirers is always best when in a welcoming environment. Even when they aren't having open exhibits you're able to pop in and have a look around and make purchases. Always something unique and eye-catching here. They've done it right. I was putting together a party for my niece and her newly wed husband to show everyone their…read morewedding video and slides at a local theater. I knew it was going to be a large space and the first time many people were going to meet. His and Her side of the families. It was just a casual event with some catered food but at the last minute I thought I wanted a surprise to help entertain people and to break the ice. Just a few days before the party, I found Jeff Harris online who does sketches, portraits and caricature drawings of people. I took a chance (at the last minute) and sent him an email and he responded instantly and was more than willing to come to our venue and do digital drawings of the guests. It's like those traditional caricature drawings but so much better. The colors are amazing with full complete backgrounds. Jeff arrived early to the venue and was setup in minutes. I had guests just standing around in clumps keeping to themselves. The moment Jeff turned on his light and setup his easel guests immediately went into the chair and Jeff began to sketch them on his electronic easel. The guests started flowing and watching what was going on. Our main event was watching the wedding video on the big screen but Jeff sure helped with the in between time keeping guests entertained and interacting. Jeff even customized the pictures with the name of the event and location. It was digitally included into the drawing. I joked that we could have easily projected Jeff's sketching onto the big theater screen and watch him work all afternoon. After the event everyone was showing their digital framed prints they all received on the spot. Jeff would personally chat with the guests while doing their sketches. Everyone had nice things to say about Jeff and had personal stories about him and his artistry. I couldn't believe how easy it was to add something like this to my party. Jeff made it so easy and effortless. He stayed until everyone had as many drawings as they wanted. I hope other yelpers add something like this to their own parties or work events. As a bonus, unlike the traditional paper drawings you don't have to worry about losing or getting it home safely. Your drawing is kept digitally so you can have it, share it, post it, enlarge it, make it into a t-shirt, or print as many as you want at home.
