This is a must visit shop, especially when in town with your girlfriends. Sales staff wonderful - gifts and take home treasures vary every time I go in. When I returned home yesterday, I called to purchase Christmas gifts that match what I purchased for our own home. Owner stocks one of a kind items. Original - original - original .... Very cute store with a lot if different things. Home decor to kids stuff and even some cute purses and wonderful smelling soaps and candles. However, everything is pretty pricey in this store. I was going to buy something for my daughter but decided not to because everything was more than I wanted to spend. Staff was very friendly and I had a nice time looking at all of the goodies! read more

Recently, visited JJ's with some company from out of town. I found the older clerk to be extremely rude to our guests. I brought this to her attention, but she dismissed it and walked away. Surprise! Has nice things, but you will find the same things at the Home Store in Grass Valley......and less expensive. I would not recommend this store and I certainly will not be bringing our guests back. Deserves ZERO's for complete lack of professional behavior. read more

This store is great! I would say it is equivalent to Yuba Blue of Grass Valley. I love their card selection, their thoughtful books, the hilarious table of gag gifts...great travel stuff, awesome kitchen appliances, nice smelling candles and other great whathaveyous. J J Jackson's has long been one of my favorite stores in Nevada City. I loved it when I lived there and I still love it when I come back to visit. They have a nice collection of cookbooks, which always seems to be changing, great smelling lotions, cute kitchen items, bags, travel items, cards, and gag gifts. Unlike some stores in Nevada City, this one is pretty well laid out and not completely packed with stuff, so it makes it easier to move through. Prices are a little expensive, but they have so many things that I've never seen anywhere else that I'm willing to pay that price. You don't ever go in here for anything specific, but I always find something great and I hope that I continue to do so for years to come. read more

Girls will love this place. Guys will come to get their girlfriend something pretty. This is a great, fun little store with a lot of variety. My GF had a lot of fun for a good 30 to 40 minutes buying all sorts of girly stuff. I see some bad reviews and the two women who helped us were very friendly and talkative with everybody. I am a person with typically no interest in shopping, but I cant walk by this store without coming in and exploring. They have the greatest mix of items; books that are inspirational, kitchen items that are practical but also fun and quirky, a wonderful array of cute notebooks, fun unique toys for kids, jewelry that speaks to you, and the greatest array of greeting cards ever (with an ever-rotating selection). I go in and emerge feeling like I've won a treasure hunt, delighted with my find. And all of the cards and gifts I 've sent to others from this store, they are always gleefully accepted as the perfect thing for that person. This is now my go to store, for gifts, and for small items that bring me joy in my daily life. read more

We have been to this store many times over time. Each visit we find a lot of interesting bit and bobs to look over. I would say they have refined the products since there seems to be less of a choice there once was. But this in this case is not a bad thing as what they do have is just fine. They have a nice wall of cards of all kinds and always one or two finds its way to my shopping bag. Oh yes I do pay for them. I have never experience of rude or bad service, this does not mean it can not happen but for me no, always nice. read more

I stepped into the shop today to buy a card for a coworker who had just lost a beloved pet. Noticing people outside setting up picnic tables for outdoor dining due to Covid restrictions, I said to the proprietor: "I'm sad to see what everyone is having to go through right now." She snapped at me: "I suppose you'd rather see everyone shut down!" I tried to explain ( But why? How does one misinterpret a statement of empathy?) to this incredibly angry person that I meant that it's sad to see everyone struggle with Covid restrictions, fires and their recent local civil disturbances. For some reason she grew even angrier (telling me she doesn't see any of this as a struggle at all), so I quickly made my purchase and bid her a nice day (I'm sure that sent her blood to boil). The owner comes across as ill-tempered and having a huge chip on her shoulder. I'm still trying to wrap my head around being attacked for conveying a pleasantry. Nice way to victimize your customer. read more

The selection was great, and one of the clerks was incredibly nice, however our experience was really marred by a surly clerk who was just rude, shooting dirty looks, and refusing to answer questions. I won't be going back. The prices were reasonable and they seemed to have cool stuff, but it's just not worth the bad experience. Oh - and we continued our shopping trip in downtown Grass Valley and found many of the same items there, and didn't run into a surly clerk anywhere! read more

I love this store! They have everything from funny gag gifts to more upscale items - artwork, cards, books, candles, kitchenware, cookbooks, barware, jewelery, etc. Bought a gorgeous necklace there that I get compliments on all of the time! - lavender opal beads with a black cinnabar reversible Asian pendant on it. This store is FANTASTIC! The variety of gifts they carry is well worth popping in to check out. From kitchen supplies to gag gifts to books to purses and scarves, they carry a lot of fun stuff. This store is nothing short of fantastic! Living nearby gives me the opportunity to frequently visit to check out any new merchandise. My visit to Russia was enhanced by the very personal service I received from a clerk who had traveled widely. Many purchases were made and not one regretted -fabulous service along with good advice. Can't beat that combination. The staff is extremly courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. These three attributes are not common in today's stores, making this one an outstanding choice for any type of shopping. Might I add, they do gift wrapping and they do it well! Buy a card, buy a gift and have it wrapped. Out the door! There is nothing not to like about this store. read more

I always love checking out this store--even back when it was Osborn Woods, but that was another lifetime. I can't believe the comments here about surly help--I've always found the people here to be very nice, especially today when the lovely dark-haired lady was helping my ex pick out reading glasses. I was there with her and her boyfriend doing some Christmas shopping. She was very sweet--it would have been a little awkward to flirt too much with her when my ex-wife was a few feet away! The other older lady was there too, and she was also very nice. I can't imagine working in a store in a tourist town and having to keep a happy disposition all of the time. Someone mentioned a "Home Store" in Grass Valley, but I'm not aware of any store by that name. I"m surprised to hear of bad customer service. I've been shopping here for years, the owner has owned it for a lot longer than I've been going there, and some of the staff are her relatives. I've never had anything but friendly, helpful service here. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five, though, is that it's one of those stores that has a little of a lot of things, but it's hard to explain what you would specifically be looking for when you go in. They have some novelties and books, some table-top and kitchen items and home decor, some books, some jewelry, a few - very few, maybe less than six - items of clothing, some travel items. What it has better than anywhere else in this town or any other, is cards, an entire wall of them, one more hysterical than the next. I spend a fortune on them, every time I go in. They also have a nice line of Bagalini purses, and a few Hobo International. I love this place, but as my sister said when I took her in when she visited, "What would you be looking for when you go in? It's kind of scattered." read more

My friend and I have loved J.J. Jackson's for quite some time, and find it a great place to buy cute gifts for family and friends. However, one day when we went to browse, we sat reading books for no longer than seven minutes when a surly woman who was working there at the time asked us if we were going to purchase the books that we were reading, and if not- to leave. I was outraged by this and quickly wrote a review and posted on their Facebook page expressing my concern. The very next evening, I was contacted by the store owner's son (whom I go to school with) saying that his mom had read my post and that my voice was being heard. She asked my friend and I to meet her in person so we could get the order straightened out. A few days later, my friend, my mother, and I met the owner in her store and she was more than gracious about the ordeal. Not only did she apologize and thank us, but we each receive $25 gift certificates and the woman who kicked us out had been fired. J.J. Jackson's is a wonderful store that handles all occurrences with professionalism and dignity. I highly recommend it. read more

As a long time resident of Nevada City, I know I can always pop in to JJ Jackson's and find a lovely gift, a funny card, something beautiful to hang on my wall, or great travel gadgets...they have it all! The quality of the merchandise is always exceptional, and I am always treated to a warm welcome (even though I might stand in front of the cards for an hour, laughing to myself.)
