One of my favorite place for gift shopping in Nevada City. Gardening and gifts for the home and a lovely selection of plants and trees.

Here's an update from the review yesterday…read more We called to tell them that we were going to dispute the restocking fee with our credit card company and as a courtesy we wanted to let them know and give them another chance to remedy the situation. After speaking with several people, eventually we got to Lucas who facilitated the refund. He advocated for us and even went to the trouble of calling us back after he was able to secure the refund. We appreciate his help and empathy in resolving this issue.

(I've ordered enough bare root berries from them to know.) I flagged it right away with customer service and planted them immediately in good soil with work castings and daily water. Nothing came up. They gave me the runaround for weeks and then Karen told me me they wouldn't refund unless I dig up the plants to show them the dead roots. What? The plants never came up, I have no idea where to dig, and they'd be rotted out by now anyway. Karen is a poor representative of the company and this policy makes no sense. I'll now be taking my business elsewhere.

This location is NOT closed. Don't know why anyone is reporting this. Please fix the YELP notice…read moreto correct this. I stopped by last week, for the second time and received the same, excellent, cheerful, and knowledgeable service as I did the first time. Kurt's Garden has an excellent variety of trees and bushes. I showed up with lots of pics/ideas of what I was looking for. Since I knew I was going to have a lot of questions i.e. I needed some handholding, I tried to make sure I arrived at a time with less traffic. I found their prices to be commensurate with what I was seeing online and I'd much prefer to support a local business, so I will be back! I haven't made a purchase yet, but only because I'm worried about planting right now, with this horrible heat wave.

I really wanted to go local and hire this place to do a few acres of landscaping after a friend who…read moreworked there was telling me regularly how well they care for their plants. I figured I would try them out and purchased about 10 plants for around $500. All of the plants did pretty well considering the heat wave we were experiencing when I purchased them. Within a week the most expensive tree, a conifer, I purchased for about $150 started to show signs of disease and began wilting heavily. I contacted them for support and they recommended a fertilizer which I tried with no success. After I followed up with them for more support, sent pictures, explained that the other 8 plants I purchased were doing fine they recommended I continue to water it. Three days later the tree was wilting very badly so I called again. Several days after I contacted them for the second time someone responded telling me it looked like heat stress and that the tree should recover. It didn't. I messaged again to ask if I could exchange the tree or receive some sort of credit given how all other plants I purchased where surviving and this one tree (the most expensive) began to die with in less than a week of bringing it home. The person told me they would ask Kurt and would get back to me. That was over a month ago and I haven't received any reply. In many way I'm very grateful I did a small test run with this business before committing to a much larger project. Never-the-less I am deeply disappointed in the service and complete lack of care for my situation. I understand that plants are living and results of their continued health becomes uncertain when they are moved off-site. I wouldn't have been too upset if anyone had just communicated with me about their policies, or provided even a small discount on future purchases as a means of acknowledging the unfavorable results or to demonstrate that customer service had any priority to them. Unfortunately none of that happened. I wish I could feel good about supporting a smaller local business but in stark contrast to Kurt's garden the surrounding local hardware stores had pricing that was a bit lower and their service was 1000% better. They were available to answer questions the same day or within 24 hrs. and actually wanted to make sure all the plants I purchased from them survived a week or two after I purchased them. Given the experience between buying from a smaller local business which offers higher pricing and smaller selection and seems like they couldn't care less about the interactions their customers have or the survival of the plants they raise with so much extra care and attention it justifies the higher the price point, and a box store which has lower pricing, responds to customers concerns and actually reconciles errors, I'm going to be choosing the local big box store for my larger project. Really disappointed in my experience here.

At first entry onto the property, it seemed kinda sketch. No plant selection organization, empty…read morepots everywhere and seemingly empty and more so residential instead of a nursery. We called before knocking on the house door, gentleman answered but the signal was lost. We hopped out and knocked and he answered saying we need an appointment. Didn't know we needed an appointment, hence this review, to help anyone else learn ahead of time. Craig was kind enough to give us an impromptu front yard tour, he shared his opinion on screening bamboo types and explained some other helpful info. It's $10 a gallon for plants, so a typical 5 gallon pot is $50. Pretty pricey. Connecting road is dangerous, blind curve and speedy drivers. Be careful doing a 3 point to turn around, and make sure to exit off the driveway FACING the road.

We were surprised to find a bamboo nursery in Nevada City! We love plants and bamboo in particular,…read moreso we had to check it out. So glad we went there and saw the 100+ varieties of bamboo. One nice tip, they are acclimated to the foothill weather temperatures. Wear comfortable shoes when you go. The plants are spread over about an acre of land and the ground is very uneven. Good thing we were not in a hurry! We took our time wandering about and ejoying the beauty of the plants and the peaceful atmosphere. It was lovely to see the many subtle variations. Craig, the owner, was happy to answer any, and all, questions regarding bamboo care and maintenance. He is very knowledgeable and was so patient with our attempts to select plants! We were very happy with the prices and took home a couple more than we had planned to buy, cause the plants were so reasonably priced. I will make a point of stopping by Bamboo Mountain again, on my next Nevada County visit.
