Tons of programs, a wonderful preschool, and a great staff. The pool is state of the art. The gym is old school.

Ask the Community - J Los Angeles

The web site says lap swim is only before 8am weekdays except for a noon time on wednesdays. No one ever answers the phone. Are these really the only times for lap swimming or can I lap swim in the evenings or on weekends?

Hi Nathaniel, sorry you are having trouble reaching us! You are indeed reading our lap swim schedule correctly. Lap Swim sessions are Monday to Friday at 6:15am, 7am or 7:45am and Wednesdays at 12pm for 45 minutes for members of the J. Our pool is… Read more

Is it open for lap swim if you are not apart of the religion? Like general lap swim for public?

Hi Sophie, yes all of our programs and services are open to the local community regardless of religious affiliation. Some swim options are available for members only. You can read more on our website at http://www.westsidejcc.org/aquatics or call… Read more

What a beautiful but hidden nature center, and I can't believe I didn't know about it before!…read moreFirst and foremost, it's dog-friendly! There are two directions to go. One way leads you to the Mark Ridley-Thomas Bridge that goes over La Cienega and connects to Kenneth Hahn or other trails that lead to other overlooks. The other direction will take you to the Baldwin Hills Stairs. There is also a sign that shows a way to walk you all the way to Playa Del Rey! Something I would love to try one of these days. It is easy to find parking. They have tons of classes, like yoga and cooking classes for children, and the day we went, they had a blood drive going on. The restrooms are clean, and everyone there had a smile on their faces, even though they were super busy setting everything up. I can't wait to go back and explore.

Everything is so well maintained. There are some great up and down hills where you feel the burn but then you go back down so it can dissolve and then you do it again. It felt amazing getting out in the fresh air and seeing all the beautiful plants. I brought my foster dog Drew and it was nice that the trails are not too narrow so we were easily able to pass other dogs coming our way with plenty of space. The most awesome thing was to see they have bathrooms!!! And then we ran into Quaillywood! Which was this cute little area with quails inside. Also, in one garden area everything is edible!!! My favorite was seeing the blackberries, because at home i have a blackberry plant in a pot but I don't know how they grow, now I have an idea from seeing them at the nature center. I did see staff talking to people and teaching them about the plants. Also, I saw that they have yoga classes and other types of classes. Man do I wish Stoneview was closer to me because then I'd go all the time, but it's over an hour drive for me. Despite this, I definitely want to come back and hike some of the other directions and see more!!! And maybe bring breakfast to enjoy in the chairs or benches and just enjoy nature!!!

We never received any update on my child's performance or even a simple yes or no on whether they made the team, which is the whole reason we signed up. That silence is not just unprofessional, it's heartbreaking for a child who's waiting and hoping. They promote programs like the Los Angeles Dodgers Dream Team to draw you in, but there's no follow-through. I even saw that my Instagram message was read and still got no response, along with unanswered emails. It feels dismissive and careless toward both parents and kids.

I wonder if it's supposed to work like Blanco park and only be open on the weekends. The gate is to the very left next to the elementary school so it was open on a weekday but it just looks like part of the school otherwise. Got a track and baseball field and some tables. Idk. To me it seems like they just opened part of the school up to the public and it feels like awkward and invasive coming lol. I definitely would rename it from Baldwin Hills Rec Center as that implies the whole area uh, knows it exists first of all. Kenneth Hahn is closer to being that than here or even Houston Park or something.
