Spent some time with the childcare here. Lovely staff. Lovely space. They have a lot of wonderful stuff going on all around the building whether it's the expansion, the green area, the affordable housing units they are developing, the childcare, the high school, the rec center which has a huge swimming pool. They have a parking structure in the back. It's down an alleyway. Plenty of spaces. Overall great experience here. read more

I lap swim 4 days a week. It is clean and the water is warm. The people are friendly.

The JCC is a great find for affordable swimming, it has a great pool with four lanes for lap swimming, you often have to share lanes but it's never overly busy. The people are friendly and everything is well taken care of. I have moved to a different area so no longer come here, hence why I am now selfishly willing to give a review! read more

UPDATE: we were able to come to a reasonable resolution... it's definitely recommended that one insist on getting all of the information upfront on membership. I'm happy to support a community Center, but there is an inherent lack of care and communication from the administrators here. I already paid over a year without being able to use the pool facilities. When I realised I was able to start using the pool in the evenings, I inquired about a month to month and explained my reservations on joining again. I was told I could pay month to month and sent a link to sign up. I signed up, and was charged a full $462 for an annual membership. After multiple emails back and forth, I got a call from Lilli the Development and Marketing Asst + Membership who kept insisting I signed up the wrong way, then she tells me I can't just do month to month; that it's a year requirement. Then, tells me she's going to keep a $30 admin fee I said upfront I did not want to pay for which she was supposed to check with her "bosses" about but never got back to me... so... while I would love to support my local community Center, this lack of communication, guidance through their own confusing processes and just outright disrespect is making patronising the place intolerable. I love the Westside Jewish Community Center!!! This place is great. There are always people here and I'm glad that a group of us rent out the Gym once a week to play basketball. Sure it's a little steep, but the money goes back to the community. The basketball courts are in good condition. They have two smaller full courts and one full size court. They have some large fans that you can plug in, if it's too stuffy or hot. The only grip I have, is that the light above one of the hoops is burnt out. So when the sun sets earlier in the winter, it's harder to see in that corner. Other than that, check out all off the other services they have. The pool always looks crowded for swimming lessons, and they always have events going on in the evenings. Quick tip: Parking entrance in San Vicente, not Olympic. We have been so pleased with the WJCC preschool and camp. The teachers and administrators are warm and caring. The kids have a great time and they learn a lot too. We have been very impressed with their Covid protocols and how cautious they have been throughout the pandemic. Our kids are excited to go to school/camp at the WJCC and come home talking about all the fun they have. We have been through other camps and preschools and the WJCC is leagues above the others on the Westside (or anywhere!). read more

Tons of programs, a wonderful preschool, and a great staff. The pool is state of the art. The gym is old school.

The preschool here is a good, low-key preschool with old-school values. The teachers help kids to learn to socialize, get along with each other, treat each other well and respect each other. They also learn good hygiene (covering when you sneeze, washing hands after going to the bathroom). The kids here seem very happy. The swimming school here is very good also. The down side of the school is that the physical plan is aged, there is not a big play area and the school and community center don't seem to have deep pockets. read more

I was taken back and really happy, until the new administrator came in due to the loss of Debra Balan Kaplan. She was the bomb, knew everyone and was so sweet. The staff were not told why she left muchless the parents. I believe they should have been transparent instead of encouraging gossip and speculation. read more

I've had so many issues with this school that it's hard to find where to start. 1. They really do find any and every reason to charge you more. They would "close" for a week at Spring Break, a week in Summer, and two weeks over Christmas (even though they are a Jewish school), but then offer "camps" so they could charge more for that time. When we left the school in the middle of the month, they basically said we were SOL to get a refund for the partial month, even though we gave ample notice. 2. They have enrichment classes that they offer, for additional money obviously, but one time they forgot to get him for the class. It was the final one he was to attend because we were leaving the school. My child cried for hours about it. 3. There was a bully in his class. I spoke to the teacher several times about it but nothing was done. She kept making excuses for the kid, saying he needed to "learn how to be a friend" and that he "had a new sibling at home and was acting out." Yet, this kid repeatedly pushed and hit my child, with zero consequence. After leaving the school, I found out that this same child had been doing sexually inappropriate things with other kids. As soon as this was discovered, the kid should have been barred from being there, but NO - he was allowed to finish out the school year. All they did was assign an extra teacher to the class. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Unacceptable. read more

My son went to this pre-school half days for one year. It was horrible. The teachers bicker with each other in the classroom, teachers bicker with administrators in front of you. Just a low energy, depressing environment. I still shudder whenever we drive by this school, SO happy my kid is not there anymore. read more
