Let's be clear about something: I've paid H&R Block to do my taxes for the past 7 years. I recently…read moremoved to KY from Washington DC (during tax season), so naturally I looked up H&R Block locally to complete it again. HUGE mistake. Before I went, I started to file my taxes through TurboTax. Nothing special or crazy about my taxes...I was done in under 8 minutes. Once I saw that I wasn't able to e-file State, I had to mail it in, through TurboTax (non-resident), I decided to go to H&R Block. It was a NIGHTMARE. I systematically lost my patience throughout. The lady they stuck me with acted like she had never done taxes in her life. Even though there was definitely NOT something crazy, brain scratching about them!! I had to keep telling her what to file, which form, why, where it went. The. Entire. Time. The lady kept calling someone over asking how to do stuff, and then when we were finally done (it took over 90 minutes), she told me she didn't know if I could e-file state or not, I had to pay first. What???? WHAT????? Ok so what am I going to do, tell a little old lady I was better off using turbo tax?? I should have. Because after I paid, we go back to her computer to "check" to see if it had e-filed and whatdoyaknow.....it hadn't. Oh and I had to point that part out to her on the screen. She was saying we were good to go. So I tell her in the last 7 years of filing my taxes with H&R Block I've never had to do anything other than show up with my W2s and 1099s...what does she do? Gives me the documents to send my state tax returns MYSELF!!!! Omg! What the heck did I need you for if the end result is 90 minutes of life gone and I'm STILL sending my state return through the mail OUT OF MY MAIL BOX!!! I will NOT be going back. I will not be recommending. I will be calling corporate to ask them if their business practices include making clients do all the work. I will say this- the front reception lady is a DOLL. I think she knew I was losing it (even though I just sat their grinding my teeth for 90 mins), because she asked me if she could get me some coffee or water. She was a sweetheart. The rest of the experience made me want to jump off a bridge. THE NEXT DAY: when I got home and was ready to mail my state tax return off, I saw where the lady had addressed it to the WRONG STATE. As if all that isn't bad enough, I checked the tax code of my state and you CAN e-file a return as a non-resident. So I basically paid money to let that old lady do nothing she was supposed to do. Don't go here.

I was never told I would be charged, let alone $300 dollars. In the three month wait (since I figured they'd forgot) I solved my own problem in two hours with google. I literally paid $300 for nothing. I expressed this very clearly to ST&A and they acted like they cared but didn't do anything to change it. I was even told I could wait to pay with my next years tax prep but then I started getting charged interest. STAY AWAY! Terrible business practices and customer service!

Our reasons have nothing to do with how nice the people are because Joyce and the lady who answers the phone seem very friendly. We dropped off my husband's fathers Estate tax info June 2020. (His estate was very simple because there was only a few documents and not much to it). We called and Joyce made an extension due to COVID19. Understandable. We called at least 20 times between then and now Feb.14, 2022. Our attorney's office calling did not make things move faster. They claim they didn't have all the information, however, that's what all the phone calls were for, to see where they were in the filing process and If they needed information. No response. Joyce officially finished the June 2020 estate taxes Feb.14,2020 faced to attorney to close out. If you don't mind waiting for 1 year and 8 months to have your taxes complete and not have phone calls returned and then blamed on "not having enough information, or Covid, or family comes first statements made to you, or multiple times telling you by phone or email that it will be done by a specific date and then nothing...." then this is your place because they are friendly. But our attorneys office in Kansas City said "In 40 years we have Never dealt with anyone like this. Completely unprofessional." Like I said friendly, just not timely or professional.
