I have been terrified of the dentist for some time. Kind of like the car dealership, you have a go-between who talks billing and insurance with you away from the nurse and dentist. It's discrete and comfortable without pressure. My nurse (dental hygienist) was Susan? Or Sandy? God she was an angel. She was so kind to me breaking down and upset and in pain. She made me feel so comfortable talking about stuff and offering anything I might need. My dentist was Dr Taylor who was incredibly knowledgeable and proficient. I got out what needed to come out and I even scheduled an appointment for regular maintenance later this month. I was made comfortable to be there, whether I needed nitrous or a valium, either are available. And they make sure you are physically comfortable with numbing. Mentally comfortable is hard, but true kindness shines through in the folks who work there. I got a kids "reward" (shark plushie) to hold while I had my procedure. When I left I got a "goodie bag" with full instructions on what I had done, extra gauze, and an emergency card. It's a little hinky getting in with the road construction on witchduck road. But soon as your turn on Grayson, by the church, it's there. There's an employee entrance on the witchduck side and another saying Ste 200 on the side, even though the dentist is Ste 100, this is the door you go in.

Knowing…read morenothing about the city, I searched for a dentist via the American Dental Association & am still thankful that Jack Mavromatis was at the top of my search list. The Shore Drive location was convenient & he turned out to be an excellent dentist. At that time Jack was a young dental school graduate who employed one dental technician. Fast forward 36 years and you'll find him in a beautifully decorated space at the corner of Shore Drive & Great Neck Road. The name of the business has changed to Mavromatis Dental since his son is now in practice with him. The dental equipment and techniques are state of the art. A computer system offers high tech visuals & information mounted near each dental chair. There is no pain involved in either the cleanings or more involved dental work. The numbing agent used doesn't leave you with elephant lips for hours afterwards, which is an amazing progression of dental technology. Fillings & caps are checked on a regular basis to determine if a replacement is needed. This has saved me from extensive dental procedures as really old work had deteriorated. There is a periodic check of one's gums on a tooth by tooth basis. Advice is then offered on gum care. Cleanings are scheduled based on individual needs. I am currently on a 4 month schedule which is working great. The doctor comes in to do a check after each cleaning. The numerous hygienists are terrific. Knowledgeable, friendly & careful, they never give up on attempting to coax me into more frequent flossing. Before he died I couldn't get my elderly Uncle to go for his dental cleaning at the practice he used. After months of trying, he finally told me that they hurt him. So I promised him he would not be hurt if he let me take him to Mavromatis Dental. Reluctantly he agreed. After alerting the office in advance about how hard it was for him to get around, I was amazed to see multiple technicians open the side door near the handicapped parking space when we arrived. They helped him inside & into a dental chair. After the cleaning & dentist check he raved about how nice they were to him, that it didn't hurt at all & that I should always bring him back here. The staff is friendly and helpful. Even though the practice is now large, they always remember your name. I love text message appointment reminders. They even send reminders to pre-medicate for those of us who have to take antibiotics prior to a dental appointment. Another plus is their hours of operation. The office is open from 7am - 5pm Monday - Thursday, allowing a time for dental work for those who work. It also offers a 3 day weekend for the staff, which is awesome. They provide superb care for patients with emergencies. One of my caps came off just after knee replacement surgery. Jack told me to meet him at the office right away. My Uncle, at whose house I was rehabbing, took me. Jack even gave me my pre-appointment meds and waited 30 minutes until they had been absorbed into my system. Again, entry was by the side handicapped entrance since I had to use a walker. You can't go wrong with Mavromatis Dental. They are excellent professionals who operate a quality dental practice.

The hygenists are all amazing they have been able to help me with accommodations for getting X-rays which have been a battle for me since I was a teenager my old dentist used to use the kid sizes for me but this dentistry has been great helping me get through the adult size X-rays. They also provide sunglasses so there are not unbearable bright lights in your eyes when the hygenists are working. I have not met the younger dentist yet but the dad was the second dentist I've ever had, my first dentist was forced into retirement about 6 years ago and Jack was very accommodating with the fact that all are previous dental documentation had never been entered into a computer and ceased to exist. I tried many other area dentists and was very disappointed with my experiences. I guess Dr. Konikoff just raised the bar too high. I actually had to go back to Dr. Konikoff to have something fixed that another dentist had done. No matter my insurance, I'll never make that mistake again. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance now, but I still get in to see Dr. Konikoff regularly. Dr. Konikoff is a busy man, traveling between his multiple offices each day of the week. If I'm going in for a regular cleaning, I'll see any of the dentists on hand. They are all very qualified and provide excellent care.

They have 80 different "departments" when you call (none of which answers). Expect to spend an hour waiting for pre-appointment (WTF is that?) before your cleaning. I get it they're understaffed then stop taking patients. Perfect example of diseconomies of scale. This place is way too big and inefficient and they put all those problems on you because they don't value your time. I'm surprised they haven't outsourced all their phone staff to India.
