I have been terrified of the dentist for some time. Kind of like the car dealership, you have a go-between who talks billing and insurance with you away from the nurse and dentist. It's discrete and comfortable without pressure. My nurse (dental hygienist) was Susan? Or Sandy? God she was an angel. She was so kind to me breaking down and upset and in pain. She made me feel so comfortable talking about stuff and offering anything I might need. My dentist was Dr Taylor who was incredibly knowledgeable and proficient. I got out what needed to come out and I even scheduled an appointment for regular maintenance later this month. I was made comfortable to be there, whether I needed nitrous or a valium, either are available. And they make sure you are physically comfortable with numbing. Mentally comfortable is hard, but true kindness shines through in the folks who work there. I got a kids "reward" (shark plushie) to hold while I had my procedure. When I left I got a "goodie bag" with full instructions on what I had done, extra gauze, and an emergency card. It's a little hinky getting in with the road construction on witchduck road. But soon as your turn on Grayson, by the church, it's there. There's an employee entrance on the witchduck side and another saying Ste 200 on the side, even though the dentist is Ste 100, this is the door you go in.

Everyone seemed happy to be there, like they actually liked their jobs. And Dr. Horwitz was the BEST! He has the greatest bed side manner I've ever experienced. The whole time he was very pleasant and joked around. He made me feel at ease, which is nice when you're about to go under the drill. He was also very quick - 5 cavities in around an hour, when my old dentist would have done 4 cavities in 2 hours. I'll definitely be coming back if I can. And the rumors are true: they play great music!

He is very personable, great with kids (I know because I started going when I was a kid) and he does his work with great precision and accuracy. For a period of time, I had to switch dentists because of my insurance. Konikoff offices take most insurance, this was just really, really awful insurance. I tried many other area dentists and was very disappointed with my experiences. I guess Dr. Konikoff just raised the bar too high. I actually had to go back to Dr. Konikoff to have something fixed that another dentist had done. No matter my insurance, I'll never make that mistake again. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance now, but I still get in to see Dr. Konikoff regularly. Dr. Konikoff is a busy man, traveling between his multiple offices each day of the week. If I'm going in for a regular cleaning, I'll see any of the dentists on hand. They are all very qualified and provide excellent care.

They have 80 different "departments" when you call (none of which answers). Expect to spend an hour waiting for pre-appointment (WTF is that?) before your cleaning. I get it they're understaffed then stop taking patients. Perfect example of diseconomies of scale. This place is way too big and inefficient and they put all those problems on you because they don't value your time. I'm surprised they haven't outsourced all their phone staff to India.
