I took piano lessons from Jackie for 11 years, and I am so grateful for everything I learned from her. Her focus on teaching music theory was really helpful when I went to learn a second instrument and also later on when I took a music class in college. She takes care and interest in the lives of her students and even helped me with an outside piece I was learning to play with the school band. I was able to get to know her other students when we had holiday recitals where we were able to encourage each other and see our progress. Both of my sisters also took piano with Jackie and she found duet and trio pieces for us to play which we had fun with and which our parents really enjoyed. It has been almost 6 years since my last lesson and I still take time every once in a while to review some of the pieces I played in the past and to look at something new. I found Jackie here on Yelp as a piano teacher for my 12 year old daughter. We had recently moved to Napa, and I had good experiences with Yelp reviews in the past. We were not disappointed - Jackie deserves her 5 star rating! If you want to become a better piano player and are willing to put the time and effort into it, then Jackie is the teacher to help you reach your goal. As evident from a recent spring recital, Jackie's students are all very well taught and, perhaps more importantly, very proud of their accomplishments. Jackie's piano studio (her living room) provides evidence that she loves teaching, and that each student is extremely important to her. Pictures and lists of student accomplishments cover her walls, birthdays are acknowledged each month, as well motivational statements encouraging hard work. Jackie expects her students to work hard both during their lessons and at home. She practices what she preaches, because she does the same as their teacher. Jackie puts a lot of effort into the teaching of each student. I am especially impressed by the preparation she does prior to my daughter's lesson to maximize the time they spend together and address the challenges from the previous lesson. Each lesson is carefully planned and divided into units that have purpose and build upon previous lessons. My daughter leaves each lesson with a clear (and written) understanding of what she is to work on in preparation for the next week. Time spent on the piano is supported with theory work and online games. Not only do these other methods supplement her teaching, but the variety is also fun for her students. Another example of Jackie's extra effort for student learning was over a holiday break. In the lesson prior to the break, my daughter was having difficulty with a couple of new pieces. Jackie encouraged my daughter to periodically email her recordings of her pieces to so that she could help her practice them correctly during the long break between lessons. I am so happy we found Jackie for my daughter. She has matured and improved tremendously under Jackie's guidance. I signed my 9 year old daughter up for piano lessons with Jackie about 3 months ago. I cannot say enough about how quickly she has progressed. In just a short amount of time, she has already memorized over 20 pieces and is begining to read sheet music. Jackie has just the right amount of encouragement and firmness in her style of teaching.
