After telling my son and a friend about a canoe trip I took as a teenager down the Namekagon and St. Croix rivers 30 years ago, they both said they really wanted to do something similar. After reaching out to multiple outfitters in the region, I choose Jack's and I'm glad I did. I didn't want to transport my 17 foot Grumman aluminum to upper Wisconsin and take it through the rapids. We were also going to need to rent a second boat anyways and needed a shuttle. I started looking into local outfitters. They were quick to respond to my inquiries and answer my questions. They also were willing to not only rent us a canoe and a kayak and provide shuttle service, but they answered my questions about what I'd need to do for a multiple night trip down the river. We camped at their site for the first night and put in right there so we could paddle down the river, across Trego Lake, portage the dam, then continue down the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers over the next couple of days. The equipment they rented us was in good condition. We had no issues with the paddles, PFDs, or boats. The shuttle van was clean and well maintained. When we looked at the camps all of them where in nice, clean conditions. The port-a-poties were clean. They have a store on site to purchase any items you may need to go down the river. The staff was friendly and nice. It wasn't busy when we arrived and was able to chat with some of them. It's a family own and operated business. We had scheduled a 3pm ride back to our vehicles on our last day but due to our underestimating how fast our trip was, we got there around noon. I called Jack's and inquired if there was any way they could pick us up early. Knowing they're busy I highly doubted it. Their response was they didn't have any drivers available right then, but if one becomes available early they would send them our way. We really didn't expect anyone to get there until 3pm. However, around 2pm the shuttle arrived. If we had to wait until the scheduled pick up time that would be understandable, but because they had the availability and could come early, that was pretty awesome in my book. If you're looking for an outfitter to go down the river either via canoe, kayak, or tube... I can't recommend enough Jack's. read more

We went up to Stone Lake in a June looking fir an escape after the Safer at Home order. It was beautiful and we wanted to get out and explore but we were also nervous about "up north" not taking COVID seriously. Then we found Jack's. You can choose to go tubing, kayaking or canoeing. All of their COVID procedures were very clear on their website and signage was abundant when we arrived. Everyone worse masks and those who were not as aware were reminded to do so. At the time they shuttles parties one at a time to get to the river. We had a GREAT time canoeing on the Namekagon river. When we came back (to the well labeled landing) we opted for some ice cream to celebrate a few hours paddling. The ice cream was a nice bonus of a well run and safety conscious facility. When we headed back up north in October we were disappointed to have missed the end of Jack's season by 1 week. We'll definitely be back after COVID and appreciate the owner's focus on giving people a fun outdoor experience while keeping patrons & staff safe! read more

This is a super fun adventure for the entire family. Here are a few hints 1) make sure everything, cooler, water, food sunscreen, etc are all ready to go before you get in line. I paid them started gathering my stuff and heard my name called and I wasn't in my bathing suit yet. We delayed our bus driver a good 10 minutes... but he was super kind about it. (Sorry) 2) While they suggest wearing river/water shoes, we got by with our bare feet but had our Chico's and Keens in the cooler tube. 3) beware of the river bank. Tree branches stick out and ultimately can tip your tube...even if your teathered to others! Then make sure your drink is in the cup holder nice and sturdy. I almost lost my water bottle, hat and glasses. (Yikes!...but it was funny to watch I'm sure...) 4) bring a radio if you're daring enough to put it in your cooler tube. 5) we did this with kids as young as 10, but there were dogs and toddlers in other parties that had a grand time. 6) if you're bringing a kid that is less than 13, they'll need a life vest. You can rent them for $7 or just bring your own. Jack's did a great job and I'd definitely recommend this outfitter to anyone who is looking to have some fun outside! read more

THIS WAS SO FUN!!! It's literally just a river that takes about 3 hours to float down but it's so beautiful and refreshing!! The river obviously has shallow and deep parts and sand bars to swim and play at! Took us almost exactly 3 hours and even though it got super cloudy and windy the last 30 minutes we still had a blast. Passed this place a hundred times but never went, now I wanna start going every time!!! read more

Our group of 9 had a memorable trip! It started off smooth, but then our members started dropping like flies- so many downed trees and large rocks in the river that made for some scary, high impact collisions. It was truly a struggle to keep on a clear path. A lot of capsized tubes and swimming. Maybe there were too many of us linked up for it to float successfully? Either way it was definitely a workout, but we have a lot of funny memories! read more

Amazing!! I've been tubing at Jack's 15 years or so? Just got back to area and was the highlight of our vacation. We did the upgraded tubes and the kiddos got tubes with bottoms. For years, i have rented from Jack's. They have tubes, kayaks, canoes, and most recently added paddle boards! I have tried out a kayak, double kayak and a paddle board. I think a paddle board is by far my favorite thing to use on the river. You can do a hour and a half tour or a 2 hour and a half tour. We usually do a hour and a half but the 2 hour tor isn't too difficult either. On the river, there are plenty of campground spots to pull over to for a quick break for lunch or bathroom break. Jack's will take you to your landing spot and unload all your rentals. It's a very nice service and I look forward to coming back to for years to come! I also recommend getting a scoop of ice cream from their ice cream shop after your trip down the river! read more

A group of 4 of us rented tubes on the 4th of July and out of nowhere came a crazy thunderstorm once we started floating that wasn't on the forecast on a few of the weather apps our group was using. Check your RADAR right before you leave Jack's Parking lot! The float takes awhile, and there isn't really a place to get out early without getting eaten alive by mosquitos (experience tells me this,ha!). The staff at Jack's came and picked up a large group of us who got out during the unexpected storm slightly early, at a bridge. Thanks guys! Thus the 5 star review. :) Prospective customers, triple check the weather/radar, there's no escaping the river early from an unexpected storm. This river would be PERFECT to float on a sunny day, hopefully you get the chance. :) read more

Fantastic experience tuning with Jack's. We had 9 people in our party, including kids. Jack's accommodated with appropriately sized tubes, and the float for our cooler was an added bonus! Reasonably priced and exceptionally clean facilities. They have changing rooms for after your river adventure, and the ice cream to cool us down after was delicious! A trip down the Namekagon River with the help of Jack's Canoe Rental was the highlight of our trip to this area. We showed up around 10am on a Monday to rent some inner tubes to float down the river. Upon arrival we were informed that this would be an approx. 4 hour trip. We were also given a complimentary inner tube for our cooler to float alongside us. Perfect! They have several buses to take you to the drop off point and from there you can take your inner tubes or canoe and drift down the river. The former was a nice leisurely pace. We occassionally had to stand up and walk through shallow parts, but it was the perfect mix of 'deep' (about 5 or 6 ft max) water and pebbly shallows. There were some rocks in the shallow areas but it was mostly sand. From your inner tube you could watch fish floating below or hop off and swim. Make sure to bring only cans (no glass is allowed on the river) and please pack out anything you brought with you. We found a few empty cans that people left behind. It's such a beautiful, clean river that how anyone could be so inconsiderate is amazing, but alas, it does happen. And be careful if you have little ones. 4 hours can be a long time on the river and there are no 'rest stops' The only bathroom is down at the base camp. Your entertainment is the scenery. This may not be the activity for very young children. We did see some kids about 6-10 yrs old though who seemed to be having a blast. I don't know how long the canoe rides take but I'm guessing they average two hours based on how fast they were drift by us. Oh, and bring sunscreen! We all left with some interesting tans and burns from where sunblock rubbed off after a few hours. read more

I have never tubed down a river before. This was really fun. The place where you start and end was well run and clean. The tubes (we paid for the upgrade) were nice and comfortable, and the experience was great. Fun thing to do with our multi-generational family group of 10. I'd do it again. read more

Tubes were great...high up off the water, and a cup holder. Free cooler tube was actually just a small old school inner tube. Good for a larger cooler, but have to pay $7 for a tube with a bottom for a smaller cooler. Route was good, a little slow in some places. About 3.5 hours. Everyone was friendly except for snotty lady at the counter where you pay. I'd actually give only one star for her. Did I mention she was snotty?? She was. Otherwise, great place...will definitely rent from them again. That's all. read more

My experience with Jacks's for a canoe rental was very good. The canoes were newer and had better seats than most old canoes. Guide was very friendly about giving my family some trout fishing tips for the Namekagon river. Canoe rentals were $40 for each. We had a great time! read more

Tubing down the Namakagon is a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon. It got cold and rainy about halfway through our trip, but we still had fun. You need to watch out for parties of drunks floating by, but aside from that, tubing is a great way to get out in nature. Jack's has frequent shuttles to drop you off and float back to their campground, it's super convenient. read more

Looking for a day of fun renting tubes to float down a river for 2 adults and 3 kids ages 9, 10, and 12. This was perfect! River had a current, but no rapids to worry about for the kids. Water was 2-4 feet deep so kids could put their feet down. Rental was $14 each for the kids and $16 for each adult. For the adults, we chose the tube with the headrest (which I would absolutely recommend!) Shuttle took us to the top of the river, no waiting no fuss. Staff was nice and helpful. I would recommend bringing a small cooler with some food and drinks and rent the tube that holds coolers. Trip lasted about 3 1/2 hours. Awesome day and totally worth the money! read more
