The person who did his taxes clearly does not understand tax law. After telling my son he owed $31,000 (he makes $70k a year), it was reviewed by another agent and submitted to the IRS. The did realize their mistake quickly and called him back to explain. But they had to submit a amended return. As Maryland won't accept an amended return, they told my son he would have to mail the return himself and pay the postage. Finally, they tried to blame my son for the entire mess by saying he should have stopped them. I sent him there because he is not familiar with anything more than a simple return and because H and R Block describes themselves as professionals, I find that hard to believe. And for all this BS and aggravation he had to pay $300. Never again.

Communication YEAR ONE was excellent then slowly disintegrated. Each year there were 4-6 different - and new to me - people working on my taxes. Ultimately I realized some were tinkering with my taxes - i.e. pondering minor detail and billing hours rather than phoning or emailing me. I pay for high quality but draw the line at contractors digging for nickel and dime billings. My computer crashed in 2024, one year after I quit working with Lisa and her crew. It took me six weeks to obtain electronic records from them. While I appreciate Lisa's Liscio encryption system, I had to beg for my e-files while managing a family death and travel. My e-files were no longer available to me, and Lisa referred me to Liscio tech support who laughed at me and sent me back to Waterfront. ONLY after I emailed Lisa's "anonymous firm email" and cc:d the Maryland Association of CPA's with Maryland tax laws excerpts, did they cough up my e-files. Further, the tardy e-files were served up with terse email lectures of how it was my responsibility to download them - they died with my computer crash! Now I am working with tax pro's in Old Frederick who are busier than Lisa's firm, but who have customer-centric processes and built-in efficiencies - and encryption with a customer focus.

We signed the agreement and sent all of our documentation by the deadline Lisa gave us. After not hearing anything for a couple weeks, we tried contacting them several times. When we finally heard back, they said they would not be able to complete our taxes on time but could file an extension. That was five days before taxes were due, so now we are scrambling to do them ourselves. Very disappointing.
