This place is super cute, the people were so nice and the breakfast great! We had the corner kitchenette.. roomy and comfortable. My only negative is the freight trains.. they started at 3 am so about one an hour.. if you don't mind the train the rest is awesome! There is a street very close so the whistle blows at least 3 times every time a train comes by! read more

Unique Experience in So Many Ways Our second stay here. 3 nights this time and we slept fine even with trains. Suite on 3rd floor was fantastic with 2 bathroom sinks and wet bar. Plenty of room. Nice high ceilings. Really unique decor. Also, commons areas throughout the place. Staff were all outstanding in their friendliness and accommodation. Nice view of the river. Dora Trail begins across the street running along creek to the New River Trail about 2 miles away. I am fond of early morning workouts and it was fun to go out and count the deer and other wildlife before breakfast. It's got a great dining facility which was not being used as a restaurant either time we were there. It might work well as a good spot for a destination wedding, bike club rally, or other celebration. read more

By-far one of the most beautiful hotels in the area for miles and miles. Carved out of an old grocery warehouse facility, this hotel has 32 hotel rooms - and retains the spirit of its original, vintage design. It has an on-site bar and restaurant that clearly is a favorite for the locals as well. This is NOT the hotel for you if you're a late eater or a light sleeper. PROS: -So ridiculously cheap compared to what the quality is. If this hotel was located in a metropolis, it would easily be hundreds a night. -I love the decor of the place. This place really feels unique. While the colors definitely get a bit dated (all of the food, exposed wooden beams, etc.) and some of the chairs are two, the additional modern textures they've added (mirrors, chairs, rugs, etc.) help pull it all together. Rooms are a bit dark, but all of this additional detail could make this beautiful for pictures. -Everything has a lot of character. Honestly, that's just a big part of it. This isn't a carbon-copy hotel that you tune out. Every floor has unique chairs on it - a unique design. Rooms are all unique. There are fun common areas tucked away on some floors for you to relax in; it's like exploring a new place and it's fun. -Water pressure is perfect and the hot water is HOT. Holycrap hot. You can easily burn yourself. No lukewarm water here. -Two bathroom sinks. It's so odd - but in a cool way. Instead of side-by-side sinks, the bathroom sinks are opposite one another in a small entrance to the toilet/shower separate room. Great for sharing spaces with someone who keeps things in a different way than you do (messy/clean, etc.) -Beautiful outdoor eating and seating for the restaurant and bar. I'm unsure if it's ever tableside service (we got there late), but we were able to take our drinks to sit outside. There's not much of a view, but it's extremely spacious and comfy. -Complimentary breakfast in the morning was seriously legit. Not just cold muffins and pour-your-own cereal. There was even prepared chicken and waffles! One of the best free breakfasts we've seen. CONS: -Every. Single. Noise. will be heard. Have you ever been in the basement of an older house - and you can hear every step that someone takes on the main floors? That's this hotel. We were woken up with loud creaking when our upstairs patrons got up to pee in the middle of the night. Add this to the fact that this hotel is RIGHT next to a train (we're talking train tracks located right next to the driveway), and this is really, really, really not the place if you're a light sleeper. It'll drive you up the wall. -Both of our bathroom sinks drained super slowly. Just to spit out toothbrushing water, it'd get backed up. -Small hotel room hallways. Jackson Park Inn has an elevator for helping you get up its three floors, but the hotel room hallways themselves are extremely small; one person at a time small. -If you're self-conscious about walking on creaky floors, this is definitely not a good place to be. -Bar AND restaurant closed promptly at 9pm. They were nice enough to get us a beer pour before they closed up for good, but if you're someone who likes late-night food or drinks, this'll be an issue. -Parking lot is mostly taken up by bar and restaurant locals if you arrive between the late afternoon and 9pm. This is aggravating as a hotel patron; we got the last spot in the lot around 8:45PM - and by 10pm, there were tons of spots. read more

Excellent experience staying at the Jackson Park Inn! Was in town because mom was in the Pulaski hospital so not the best of circumstances but the service and food at Jackson Park Inn made the visit so much less stressful. I asked the manager late one night if there was a grocery store nearby because I wanted to bring mom some yogurt and she went back in the kitchen and brought back two cups of strawberry yogurt! The restaurant is great, very laid back and relaxing, and the service was top notch. Hope to visit again under better circumstances. read more

My husband and I did the New River Trail and spent the night here. It was a lovely hotel! I was honestly quite surprised. Upon arriving Moe the front desk attendant was extremely kind and so helpful about questions we had, he was very personable and accommodating in every way. The room was clean and comfortable I'm not sure when I have stayed in a hotel that was this clean. Dinner was delicious and wait staff was on their game. I would highly recommend Jackson Park Inn and I look forward to another stay there again in the near future! read more

Beautiful former warehouse that has been beautifully redone. The employees i interacted with were very efficient and friendly, the hotel is spotless, hot water and great pressure and the room was very nice and comfortable. The rooms in this hotel are lovely. Tall lofty ceilings, reasonably comfy beds with lots of pillows, furnished very nicely with lots of charm. We stayed on the 3rd floor, based on what was suggested in previous reviews. Didn't hear any noise from other floors or rooms... good call, Yelpers. But THAT $&@* TRAIN!!! EVERY 1.5 HOURS it would pass by, blaring it's horn multiple times! We slept probably a total of 10 min the entire night because of THAT $&@* TRAIN. Worse night of sleep I've had in a hotel in quite a while. How is it that nobody is mentioning the train?! read more

This hotel was a warehouse that has been remodeled. We were very impressed with the room. Nice furnishings and very spacious. The only negatives were being on the second floor I heard our neighbors above us walking and their conversations. Because the hotel is near the train tracks you also hear several trains early morning. Breakfast is continental which means coffee, toast, yogurt and not much more. This hotel is very nice and I would encourage them to offer a better breakfast. If you stay here I would also encourage you to stay on the top floor so your neighbors who come in late won't prevent you from having a restful night and ear plugs to ignore the train. A unique, beautifully appointed hotel in downtown Pulaski. Bar and restaurant on site also very interesting. Hotel is a renovated old building (warehouse, textile mill etc). Plenty of old wood and hardware. Rooms are modern but have some of the old building architectural features. Got 2 double beds for $110 on a weekend. Best hotel in the county for sure. They have complimentary breakfast. Great place for a wedding or conf as well. read more

My goodness what a breath of fresh air. What a great place to stop after driving all day. Also has good food and drinks. The room was super nice and clean. Hotel is nice and Pulaski needed a place like this. We stayed one night and was on the second floor and while the open ceilings are nice and adds a cool vibe to the room. The one thing it doesn't do is keep the sound down. We was over the restaurant and it sounded like we was in the restaurant. Very loud could not sleep maybe the third floor is the floor to stay on. but the second floor probably is not a great option. read more

This is a very confusing hotel. I'll try to sort it all out with pros and cons, and give a final opinion on the full stay. We stayed at the Jackson Park Inn 11/29/15-11/30/15. Just one evening. Pros: 1.The interior design of the hotel is quite nice and modern. While the restaurant and bar were closed after we arrived (and we chose not to get lunch the next day as their oven was out) we were shown around and they looked rather nice. The menus looked a little uninspired but I can't comment on food I haven't had. 2. The rooms themselves on initial arrival looked very nice. They are spacious with huge ceilings and are pleasant to look at. 3. The beds themselves are quite comfortable. 4. The staff are amazing. The woman working the desk the night of our stay was always available and they were ready and willing to fix every problem we had. 5. The complimentary muffins were greatly appreciated and pretty tasty. 6. Price. At $98 a night it's a better choice than most places nearby. Cons: 1. The rooms had their issues. Our first room did not have a working tv (we were later told this is a consistent problem). Our second room had trash cans full of trash, and mysterious stains on the towels. The sheets were horrific and extremely stiff/starchy. The towels were cheap and rough. All in all, it seemed like a room built for having pretty pictures taken and not for actually staying in. Every element looked nice but then ceased to function in a good way. The desk was positioned so that you blocked the entrance if you used it, the "sofa" was extremely uncomfortable and the common room was full of stiff furniture. The common room fridge was also full of butter. Full. We don't really know why. 2. The elevator seems....suspect. It never felt particularly safe. 3. Sound travels all the way up. We were on the second floor and could hear and be woken up by the front desk phone. 4. Only working ice machine was on the third floor, and there were no plastic bags for the ice buckets. Pretty unsanitary. 5. Not a fault of the hotel, but there was NO food available in town after 10pm which seemed pretty silly. 6. Shower pressure was nil. Hot water lasted for maybe 3-4 minutes. 7. WiFi was down most of the night. Seems to be a common problem. 8. Low on ammenities. No coffee, spotty tv service, few plugs, no breakfast, no pool, etc. Some soaps and a fridge are about it. In closure, the hotel has potential but seems very 'form over function". It's uncomfortable, like staying in a Rooms to Go catalog. The money seems spent on statues and pictures and decorative pillows instead of making the hotel comfortable, warm and inviting. There are so many small things wrong that it adds up to a pretty cold, mediocre experience. The staff is great and hopefully that in and of itself will make the Jackson Park Inn step up its game. In all fairness, they did discount our rate after our issues and seem more than willing to make the Jackson Park Inn a place of recognition. The building is gorgeous and has so much potential, but is currently more of a show piece than anything I'd recommend to a traveler. I do hope to come back after the hotel has been open for a while and try it out again, if only to visit the staff and see if they've managed to find a happy medium between Inn and Show Piece. read more

I loved everything about this place. Beautiful room not your typical looking hotel room. Comfortable beds, spacious room, nice linens and soaps. Beautifully decorated rooms, dining room, bar and front desk area. Good breakfast. Only downside is the loud train whistles in the middle of the night right outside the building. We've been coming here for years, once every couple years or so. Love the ambiance - large rooms, high ceilings. Service is good; staff is helpful and personable; everything is clean. Attached restaurant always has good seasonal food and excellent service. Concierge went the extra mile to find the rental bike company for us a few miles down the road and so we enjoyed a scenic ride along the New River on our way out of town. Looking forward to our next stop-over, whenever that might be. They are consistently appropriate. This review would be identical to describe each of our visits over the last 10 years. read more

Not perfect-- but-- such a great experience i still gave 5 stars. This old warehouse-converted-to-hotel has a unique presentation. Old brick mill type building with lots of massive exposed beam ceilings and hardwood plank floors offer a strong industrial look. Rooms are spacious and modern offering all the amenities you would expect from the major hoteliers. The common area floors creak and you can see below and above through the cracks as well as hear the muffled sounds of neighboring conversations. All forgivable! Food and beverage quality and service were beyond reproach as we dined in both main dining as well as the bar. The prime rib is a truly sizable hunk of well prepared meat-- not to take away from the numerous other entrees and appetizers. The entire experience was worth the price! We were there for 2 nights in order to bike the New River Trail. The north end is within 3 miles of the hotel. read more

The Jackson Park Inn was absolutely an amazing experience. Traveling after 6 hours from Newport News to this location, the staff kindly opened the door and welcomed us in. They were extremely friendly and sorted out a minor problem about booking, but made it all work out. The room is absolutely stunning with a more rustic appeal while still staying modern and chic. The room was completely spotless, clean, and ready for our arrival with no issues. The staff did everything they could to accommodate our stay and did it with a smile every time, they are kind hearted and sincere. 10/10 would recommend this place! read more

My wife and I stayed at this nicely restored-and-converted grocery warehouse building on the night of Sunday, October 15th (2nd floor). The exposed century-old brick and wooden-beam sub-flooring (which is the ceiling if below) are quite nice to look at. However, as others have pointed out, it does allow for a lot of noise transmission. And when we stayed, there were only five or six other rooms occupied. One of these rooms - you guessed it - was directly above us. We could almost make out their conversation. Thankfully, they weren't arguing and turned-in early. And, yes, that rail line out front is active - quite active, even at night. Oh, make sure that you don't wait too long too eat; the town rolls up its sidewalks pretty early. Moreover, this inn is certainly worth checking out. read more

I agree with Ross E.'s review. It's spot on. First I would say that I'm glad I got the chance to stay here. I doubt I would have ever spent a night at the Jackson Park Inn had it not been for hazardous road conditions from the snow storm in January '16. My employer paid for my co-workers and I to stay overnight to insure we would make it in to work (we are public safety telecommunicators). We really enjoyed the lounge downstairs! After dinner and drinks at Al's on First, we turned in for the night. The rooms are so beautiful! The bed was comfortable. The issue I had was similar to Ross's. We were on the second floor and could hear everything from the lobby and everything above us. It made for a restless night to say the least. Being that there was a significant weather event that weekendl, I can't imagine the hotel being near full, it sounded like there was a lot going on downstairs. I heard thumping and people talking all through the night. Very disappointing because this is the nicest place in several surrounding counties. I don't think this issue would be enough to keep people away but it may be enough to keep them from returning especially in the warmer months when the ballplayers stay there (Historic Calfee Park ballfield nearby). It's still an amazing addition to this impoverished town. I sincerely hope it does well. read more

Cutest place, stayed there last night for one night for a road trip pit stop. Didn't want to leave! The interior is beautiful, exposed brick and wooden beams are from the original building which has a hundred years of history. We got a room for 99$ which was an amazing deal. We didn't want to leave. It's probably the nicest hotel room I can remember staying in. The service was great and the manager was incredibly friendly. Loved it. read more

This is a wonderfully memorable hotel, as well as its adjoining restaurant! The attentive staff would add a 6th star, if that were possible. My husband and I agree that this is what an excellent hotel is supposed to provide: a sincerely kind and welcoming staff (can't praise enough), clean from top to bottom and beautifully appointed rooms. We stayed here two nights ago and will stay again when there's an event we want to attend in Pulaski. This is by far the best renovation/transformation of an old downtown structure into a modern hotel we've experienced in all of western Virginia. Beautifully done. In a major city the rooms would rent for two or three times the Pulaski price. The staff are friendly and helpful. To paraphrase what someone else wrote, however, it's best to understand that this is not a typical hotel in a typical small town. We laughed out loud at someone else's review stating that there was nowhere to eat downtown after 10 pm -- heck, there's actually few places (maybe 2?) to eat downtown in the day! Despite the great work Pulaski citizens have done to keep their once-thriving downtown spruced up, they have not been able to replace the industries lost to NAFTA and now the decline of the coal industry. So there's not an active downtown life -- yet. On the other hand, if you want to spend the night in a hotel with very good restaurant which is a block from an event at the renovated Pulaski Theater, or a few blocks from the historic Calfee Park baseball field for a minor league game, Jackson Park Inn is great. Just ask for a room away from the side of the railroad (if that bothers you) and know that the outskirts of town -- toward I-81 -- offer plenty of restaurant choices from fast food, to Japanese, to Mexican to Steak House and pizza, Oh, and to alleviate the fears of anyone who read the area is "sketchy," JPI is directly across from the town police station, and crime near the hotel is virtually non-existent. read more

I stayed two weeks ago and did not have the issues that Ross E. had. I did hear that while I was there the second floor had been closed for renovations as they are having to completely re-do the flooring due to the noise from the first floor going right through to the second floor. My room was beautiful and both TVs worked fine. The restaurant was open. I had a burger which was very good and fairly priced. I also enjiyed the lounge. The bartender was attentive and provided good conversation. The only two things that weren't 5-star worthy are that I heard the area can be a bit sketchy, although I had no problems. The other issue I had is that the internet did not work. My phone connected briefly on my second day but I was never able to get my laptop to connect. The hotel appears to be aware of the issue but has not yet been able to get it fixed. This is a must if they have any hopes of attracting business travelers. read more

Having read the reviews here, I respectfully disagree. You have to know what you signed up for. Yeah maybe a little noisy , but improved. It's the character of the place. Love the wood, old time charm. This is not a cookie cutter type place , its unique. Old time charm and with that old time issues. A train went by, the bell rang at five o'clock , repurposed items, I love it. Rooms are great, beams wood, creaky floors. That's what I want. Beautiful decorating. Res truant , lounge/bar. Very nice staff. Everyone is friendly. If you want perfect or what they tell you is perfect, stay in a chain hotel. This is great for me. I appreciate the workmanship. I can put up with the little things. My job requires me to be here for a couple years, off and on. I will stay here. Love it. read more

We were driving through Pulaski looking at the downtown when we came upon the Jackson Park Inn. It was a chilly grey Saturday and the three of us stopped in for a cup of coffee. We saw the dessert menus and decided to sample some cheesecake, key lime pie and lemon cake. They were all delicious. The staff was very friendly and I am happy to see such a historic site being used as a gathering place. I hope word spreads and this revitalizes the downtown and draws in guests from around the state. read more
