A small shack on the side of the road. Our waitress was so nice and hilarious! Great for lunch, all our food was prepared well and great for the price!

This is such a cool place and we were lucky to find it. If you were driving the Blue Ridge you know how hard it can be sometimes to find a decent restaurant much less a decent restaurant that sells gas. We stumbled upon this place late one night and it was one of the best meals that we have on the parkway. The staff is very friendly and I was able to gas up and get some supplies without having to make multiple stops.

I was greeted warmly walking in by the front desk staff and checking in was simple and easy. As a note, making reservations through the hotels own website gives you the best rate, in comparison to all the third party options. Two queen beds on the fourth floor (top floor), overlooking a part of the old cemetary and park. The room was spacious and nicely appointed, both beds were very comfortable. Along with a couple of seating chairs and a small corner table, there was all the amenities one expects traveling nowadays, coffee station, fridge and microwave. A work station and chair and a flat screen rounded out the room. A walk in shower in the oversized bathroom had plenty of hot water for my shower in the morning. It was bright, well lit and served its purpose as intended. Breakfast is included in the stay, and it was a decent enough start to the day. Scrambled eggs, breakfast meat with potatoes, along with an assortment of breads, grits, fruits, juices and coffee and teas. Cold cereals, and yogurts as well. The dining area was clean, well lit and spacious. All in all, the Hotel Floyd is a comfortable stay and a fair value for the money. Would stay again. 4 Stars 01091

No notes on our 3rd floor room, it was clean and large, and locally themed too. We skipped the breakfast. It's standard motel fare and with a loud TV in the room, there are better options very close by. Despite that, I feel the room was fairly priced for summertime in the USA. Though we've visited Floyd many times over the years, this was our first time staying in town, and I think this would be a great option for FF26.

We still had a twenty-minute drive to the lodge when we reached the North gate. The drive was pretty, though, and passed quickly. The circular driveway in front of the lodge was clogged with cars, forcing us to park down the road a bit. No one was around to welcome us, and finding someone took us a bit. Once we did, the valets quickly took care of us, and we were checked in. Our room on the second floor overlooked the 18th green and a valley on the backside of the lodge. It was terrific: large and spacious, with lots of wood and chunky lodge-style furnishings. The bathroom was huge, with a large tub, separate shower, and his-and-hers sinks. The minibar came stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and some snacks. While staying here, we enjoyed their astronomy presentation at the top of the silo, walking on several trails through the nearby woods, time in the spa, and making smores out back by the fire pit in the evening with the other guests. There was a special cocktail hour with apps and drinks, and a chance to talk to some of the local providers of food and items to the hotel. They do an excellent job of using local sources for the lodge. Dining was top notch, except at the Stables family-style restaurant. The Stables was a disappointment. Our other meals though in the lodge were top notch. The staff at Primland is the best, and they are what make this place so special. Come visit in the summer and enjoy the cooler temperatures of the mountains.

Carved out of an old…read moregrocery warehouse facility, this hotel has 32 hotel rooms - and retains the spirit of its original, vintage design. It has an on-site bar and restaurant that clearly is a favorite for the locals as well. This is NOT the hotel for you if you're a late eater or a light sleeper. PROS: -So ridiculously cheap compared to what the quality is. If this hotel was located in a metropolis, it would easily be hundreds a night. -I love the decor of the place. This place really feels unique. While the colors definitely get a bit dated (all of the food, exposed wooden beams, etc.) and some of the chairs are two, the additional modern textures they've added (mirrors, chairs, rugs, etc.) help pull it all together. Rooms are a bit dark, but all of this additional detail could make this beautiful for pictures. -Everything has a lot of character. Honestly, that's just a big part of it. This isn't a carbon-copy hotel that you tune out. Every floor has unique chairs on it - a unique design. Rooms are all unique. There are fun common areas tucked away on some floors for you to relax in; it's like exploring a new place and it's fun. -Water pressure is perfect and the hot water is HOT. Holycrap hot. You can easily burn yourself. No lukewarm water here. -Two bathroom sinks. It's so odd - but in a cool way. Instead of side-by-side sinks, the bathroom sinks are opposite one another in a small entrance to the toilet/shower separate room. Great for sharing spaces with someone who keeps things in a different way than you do (messy/clean, etc.) -Beautiful outdoor eating and seating for the restaurant and bar. I'm unsure if it's ever tableside service (we got there late), but we were able to take our drinks to sit outside. There's not much of a view, but it's extremely spacious and comfy. -Complimentary breakfast in the morning was seriously legit. Not just cold muffins and pour-your-own cereal. There was even prepared chicken and waffles! One of the best free breakfasts we've seen. CONS: -Every. Single. Noise. will be heard. Have you ever been in the basement of an older house - and you can hear every step that someone takes on the main floors? That's this hotel. We were woken up with loud creaking when our upstairs patrons got up to pee in the middle of the night. Add this to the fact that this hotel is RIGHT next to a train (we're talking train tracks located right next to the driveway), and this is really, really, really not the place if you're a light sleeper. It'll drive you up the wall. -Both of our bathroom sinks drained super slowly. Just to spit out toothbrushing water, it'd get backed up. -Small hotel room hallways. Jackson Park Inn has an elevator for helping you get up its three floors, but the hotel room hallways themselves are extremely small; one person at a time small. -If you're self-conscious about walking on creaky floors, this is definitely not a good place to be. -Bar AND restaurant closed promptly at 9pm. They were nice enough to get us a beer pour before they closed up for good, but if you're someone who likes late-night food or drinks, this'll be an issue. -Parking lot is mostly taken up by bar and restaurant locals if you arrive between the late afternoon and 9pm. This is aggravating as a hotel patron; we got the last spot in the lot around 8:45PM - and by 10pm, there were tons of spots.

So we packed our bags, brought some car games and hit the road. Arriving we didn't see any signs to the Inn so it was a little confusing and weird driving up to the Inn. We were welcomed inside by Keri and she apologized for the confusion and said they were working on signage. Keri was fantastic and first thing she did was show us to our room and took us on a little tour of the place. She gave us a lot of insight onto the house and its previous owners and how old it is. There is so much character and each room and the way they have each of them setup brings our the personality of each room. We were staying in the Wanderlust room and it was a beautiful with a great view of the open grounds next to the estate. It really felt as if we were staying a close friends house for the weekend. Keri kept us engaged, made sure we had anything we wanted, opened up the kitchen to us if we wanted any snacks. And there is nothing like waking up in the morning to have breakfast made for you when you come downstairs. I loved our stay here, we never slept so well, and I thank the comfortable bed for that but, I also think we were made to feel at home by a very friendly innkeeper. I mean, we didn't hear one squeak in any floorboard! Talkin' rustic and solid - a wonderful combination. This Inn has impeccable cleanliness and tasteful décor of every room. We came with another couple who are regular guests at B&B's all over the USA. They were decisively impressed. We came for the nearby Yadkin Valley wineries but found simply hanging out at A Mighty Oak to be quite pleasant. We sat on rocking chairs on the 2nd floor covered porch as we read or just talked as the stars emerged in the sky. Then we ascended to the 3rd floor for games (ping-pong, board games, TV sports) and reviewed the substantial bookcase. Of course, a huge facet of any B&B is the proprietor. We all recognize a passion for excellence when we experience one. It's there in spades with Todd, showing up in attentiveness to our needs and a pleasant, playful grace about him and his wife Lisa. And we saw his excellence in that 2nd "B" in B&B. We're talking as close to farm-to-table as it gets since the B&B's rear acreage is home to cows, chicken and plants. And, uh FYI, no smell in the air. Match freshness with culinary excellence and you've got an Rx for memorable breakfasts. I mean, I had never had a Scottish Egg and can't wait to see what Todd has up his sleeve next time! A passion for excellence shows up in every aspect of a business, but when it's a B&B, it can become quite special since they're sort of personal - I mean one actually lives there albeit for one or two nights. A Mighty Oak is indeed one special place. We will definitely return for our Mighty Oak state-of-mind fix!!

In addition, the location for this hotel is great, and it has a nice little pool outside. The not-so-good news is some of the front desk people seemed like they needed additional training. I had two consecutive nights and two different reservations (one was with rewards points). The front desk people who checked me in on the first night said I had to check out and move rooms the next day because that room type wasn't available the second night. But the next day I found out that wasn't true and ended up packing up all my stuff unnecessarily and hauling it to my car in between. Boo. More not-so-good news: the shower water pressure was awful (in room 423). I'm not sure what was wrong and didn't have time to speak to the front desk about it when I left. It was the worst water pressure I've had in frequent travel for multiple years. It could be a renovation issue? I also suspect in the renovations the climate control system changed and now is one of those where while you're sleeping and inactive in the room, the room becomes much hotter -- like WAY hotter. Probably a cost savings measure. This used to be my favorite hotel in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area, but I am reconsidering whether I want to return or try someplace else next time.
