This maybe the cleanest place in all of New Orleans. We took a walk to Jackson Square and saw the amazing Church. We grabbed beingets and coffee and sat to watch people. They have lots of local artist who display art. The next time I go back I would like to spend more time. read more

Jackson Square is a beautiful little downtown area to go and sit after you've dropped by the Museum and your toesies need a break. It makes for fantastic people watching, and the live music that tends to start up nearby makes for a truly incredible atmosphere. Snap a picture of the monument then take a moment to relax next to the grass as the sounds of New Orleans spill into your soul! read more

I had a blast visiting the renowned Jackson Square during my first trip to Nola! This adorable lil' area is extremely close to the original Café Du Monde, along with several fabulous bars and shops nearby, and hosts plenty of artists throughout the week. I stopped here and sat on a bench facing the monument of Andrew Jackson, and enjoyed live music that was being played nearby by a band that was sitting in the square in front of the cathedral. It was slightly dirty around some of the benches -- however, this space is actually pretty clean considering the fact that I didn't notice anyone who looked like they were hired to keep the area clean or keep an eye out for litter. I'm sure there's so much more history to Jackson Square, but the ghost tour I took where we met here to start didn't mention too much on it, so I have a lot to learn! If you're looking for a lively stop in the French Quarter, for live music, art, or even a tarot card reading, I highly recommend stopping by Jackson Square! read more

Wonderful history and scenery but watch out for the scam artists who will Harass you. Wish the city would do more to keep this a safe place to visit. The scammers work in groups and are high pressure. If they ask where you got your shoes the answer is the bottom of your feet and get away or I am calling 911. read more

Every town should have a Jackson square. Artisans artists performers and a park by a big cathedral. Recipe for a real good time. Tour the cathedral and walk around the square one lap at least. Lots of shops for shopping there. Then hit the cafe du monde for some light refreshing beignets ! read more

Very lively square in NOLA. Kids all got really nice Henna designs, listened to live music, saw a magic show and viewed tons of art. We walked by multiple times while in NOLA to get to various hot spots. Kids always slowed down quite a bit when we were in Jackson Square taking in all the various scenes. Important to note, as expected the later in the evening it gets the more raunchy Jackson Square is. read more

Jackson Square has a vibe you won't want to miss. Whether it is musicians, magicians or tarot card readers, you'll feel it when you visit. The park is next to the Mississippi River so walk across the street for some more history and a great view. The famous Cafe De Monde is right there too. Dogs aren't allowed in the park, but as you walk around you'll still get a sense of the park and there are plenty of good views. My favorite part was the art. Who needs a gallery when you have local artists? My favorite was Lara France who was so kind and showed us her sketches. Her style was so unique and she embodies love of music and jazz. read more

Jackson Square is a historic park in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. From the statue you can see the view of the cathedral with pirates alley next to it, the smell of café du mondes famous beignets tickle your nostrils and salivate your glands- even if you aren't big into sweets. to the right looking at the cathedrals you can see the apartments in which were around when New Orleans first came to be- I am told (from one of our tour guides) that you can tour one of these apartments for free. To the left you see old fashioned historical shops. You can see the local artists selling on the street, artists performing on every corner and live music whether vocal or brass bands. There is so much history that can be felt in that one place and moment in time. Definitely worth checking out when you're in NOLA. read more

Yeah it's touristy but it's a place you need to check out when you're in New Orleans. I walked into the cathedral to check that out for a few minutes then walked over and checked out the Jackson Monument. I'm from Jacksonville originally and I'm pretty sure our Jackson statue is larger but this one isn't bad. There's lots of artists, musicians, etc. playing all over and you can walk across the street and check out the river. read more

Loved this location, people and happy crowd. Great place for pictures and relaxing. Lots of vendors and food. You can sit across from square and see all and behind is the Mississippi river/bridge. Near Cafe de Monde. The nearby church was beautiful. During day lots of entertainment and horse carriage rides. You can spend the day enjoying music, food and great view. read more

If you a history buff this area will likely appeal to you. It feels like an oasis within the busy French Quarter. The statues are work checking out and as well as the old buildings and cannons. It makes for a nice walk. read more

Lots of interesting things to see here. Taro card reading, random acts and dancing--overall a great place to gather. The St. Louis Cathedral is located in the heart of this plaza. Hurricane Katrina exhibit is here too. If you're in the French Quarter, don't miss this area. You'll definitely feel like a tourist here :) read more

Beautiful park located in the heart of the French Quarter. Jackson Square is easily accessible and located in the heart of NOLA's French Quarter area. Great for an early morning run or afternoon stroll when the house carriages and artist swarm the vicinity. There is plenty to see in Jackson Square from people watching to street talent. 1. Unique 2. Historical 3. Romantic = JACKPOT! New Orleans is divided into 72 different neighborhoods. Of those neighborhoods only one has really captured my heart in so many ways. The Vieux Carre (French Quarter) is, by far, my favorite neighborhood. We spend a lot of time together and I really can't live too happily without her. Resembling the Place des Vosges in Paris, Jackson Square is the heart of the French Quarter. It really is the spot in the Quarter that keeps this area alive. Bourbon Street may get the crowds but without Jackson Square this historic neighborhood would definitely not be the same. Jackson Square is a unique, historical, and memorable spot in the city. It is unique in that it is a park surrounded by a cathedral, shops, apartments, and restaurants. It is also known for all the street performers, musicians, and artists that set up shop there. Historically it was originally designed as a military parade ground. The three main buildings that surround Jackson Square all are historic landmarks: The St Louis Cathedral, the Presbytere, and the Cabildo. Lastly, there is not a more romantic spot than Jackson Square. The picturesque setting, the carriages, the weddings at the cathedral all contribute to the romance found here. There is no other place in the US quite like the French Quarter. Come here and experience a different way of life. I write this review today in honor of one of New Orleans iconic figures: Archbishop Philip Hannah. What a great man he was!! He led the Archdiocese of New Orleans for over two decades and today the St. Louis Cathedral is where Archbishop Hannah will be laid to rest. Jackson Square will be filled today with loving admirers witnessing a very memorable day today. read more

If you are indiscreetly meeting your lover in Jackson Square, then you're a moron because EVERYBODY traverses through Jackson Square, even your insensitive spouse who has hired a detective to follow you, you adulterous whore. It's the heart of N'awlins or so every tour book says since it's just across the street from Cafe Du Monde and those damn beignets. An equestrian statue of its namesake, Andrew Jackson, stands in the middle because he won the Battle of New Orleans and was voted Best Hair by all the former Presidents. It was considered a prime site for the public execution of disobedient slaves during the 18th and early 19th centuries, usually by hanging. Then their dismembered bodies were used to decorate the city's gates. Good times. Now you just see drunks hanging from the gates usually looking for handouts. The St. Louis Cathedral does make a nice backdrop for your photos, as do the colorful tarot card readers surrounding the square. Right off the square is Stanley, a great place to get brunch since they serve the best corned beef hash. Laissez les bon temps rouler. read more

Jackson Square is one of those areas in New Orleans which holds so many memories for me. I remember coming to the French Quarter as a child and being taught where I've got my shoes. I remember staring at the statue of Andrew Jackson on his horse thinking how majestic it looks. I remember the artists. I remember the french bakery. I remember the Cabildo, the Cathedral and the Presbytere. I even remember when I was a bit older and got to drive through the square. There are so many memories of this small block of land. Jackson Square is hands down my favorite place in the French Quarter. I often start my day there when I visit by eating at Cafe du Monde and walking through the garden to St. Louis Cathedral. When it's nice outside you'll see local street artists selling their beautiful works around the garden as well as hear the sound of brass bands playing nearby. My husband proposed in the garden in front of the Cathedral and I couldn't think of having it any other way in such a beautiful location. read more

Jackson Square is the heart of the French Quarter. It's a beautiful park surrounded by an intricate fence and gates that add to its charm and attraction. One of the iconic images of New Orleans is Jackson Square featuring the central statue of Andrew Jackson on horseback with St. Louis Cathedral in the background. When you see this, you know you're in New Orleans. You have arrived. It's a beautiful space with trees and landscaping that are meticulously maintained. Park benches here are great places to take a break and perhaps have a little picnic with beignets from Café du Monde, which is right across the street. Along the outside, in the pedestrian mall, musicians, artists and street performers share their creativity and talent. Here you can enjoy live music, watch a magic performance and browse beautiful hand-crafted goods. This is also where you can arrange to have a mule-drawn carriage ride. Carriages line up along Decatur street daily. read more

Artists making master pieces, jazz players in the st, beignets across the st, all mixed with some NOLA air! This was one of my favorite places to visit in NO. Walk a couple of blocks and check out Mississippi River as well. Make sure you wear lots of sunblock and good luck wit parking. Also check out some of the shops in the area. read more

As a NOLA visitor, you can expect to wander through Jackson Square several times during your visit. Centrally located in the French Quarter, this small square is adorable, airy and comfortable. Friendly musicians play in the streets and carriages driven by adorable donkeys line Decatur Street. The Andrew Jackson statue itself is also monumental, especially with the backdrop of St. Louis Cathedral. There's really no better spot in the Quarter to take a break and soak in the city's special culture. read more

The historical essence of this place makes it a worthwhile stop while in New Orleans -- if you're a history nerd, you will find yourself quite enamored with the architecture and historical significance that Jackson Square has to offer. Aside from the Louisiana Purchase location, Jackson Square also hosts artists and musicians, and is DIRECTLY across from th infamous Cafe Du Monde. They also have various carriage rides available out front if that tickles your fancy as well as some noteworthy stores that sell New Orleans souvenirs and various other merchandise to take home and remember your visit by :) A lot of people tend to sleep in this park, is my only complaint -- but it is pretty calm and no one really bothers you or vice versa. Pretty chill vibe. I would definitely come back to see some more work by the local artists here. read more

This was a pretty little park with art on display/ for sale by local artists right on the outside fence of the park by the water. There were some truly beautiful and unique pieces. I spoke to one of the female artists after commenting on how one of her paintings made me feel. She was a wonderful woman. There were musicians playing (like a whole band with all the horns) and other Kinds of performers right outside the square too. Also, it apparently closes - there's a sign that says the park is closed from 10:30 pm to 6:00 am (interesting that they give you the closing time first, rather than the usual open/close times). Since I didn't realize it was such a big park, I also didn't realize it had official hours. You learn something new every day.

Its location is very centralized and very nice to hang out in on any given day of the week. I found myself here walking along the French Quarter, admiring the city and just being able to be here on a lovely but chill Thursday in November 2019. Thankful for Google Maps that alerted me to this place. There wasn't too much people here on a nice afternoon. I arrived here around 4:00pm and it was brisk. What's unique about this park was the Hurricane Katrina sculpture that remembers the story of the Hurricane that destroyed much of New Orleans physically, but not her spirit. Within 7 years since the event, the city of New Orleans gradually came back to life and the culture along with it. The House In the Tree sculpture adds some sort of sense of community here, especially when the entire region was impacted by the catastrophic nature of the hurricane. I spent about an hour here before it got dark, then left the area in an uber. The Mississippi River Heritage Park isn't large, by any means, but it does provide that open space for anyone and everyone to come and enjoy while being here next to the French Quarter and the New Orleans Convention Center. On my experience here at the park, there seems to be a few people who like to scam other locals and tourists about their shoes. The overall experience here at the Mississippi River Heritage Park was nice, scenic, and quite a nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. The only issue was those scammers that were more an annoyance than anything, but I ignored them and was on my way thereafter. I did thought that the House in the Tree sculpture added some depth to the architecture and the ambiance of this area of New Orleans, even if it was overshadowed by the Convention Center, literally across the street. It was a nice time here for me and I think you'd have a nice relaxing time if you come here, even for a few moments after enjoying the French Quarter. It helps to have this space to recharge yourself after a morning or afternoon of shopping and dining in the area. The Mississippi River Heritage Park is located about 3 or so blacks from the World War II museum on John Churchill Chase Street and the Convention Center Blvd. The Hampton Inn and the Hilton Garden Inn is nearby also. Being that it is a public park, there is no admission fee charged. You can come and go as you please. It's a place to be yourself. The closest you can be to get here on the New Orleans City Bus is on route 10, depending on where you are before then. Not sure where you can park, in terms of availability in the French Quarter, but best bet is to walk here if you are staying in downtown New Orleans. There are a few benches for those who need to sit down and hang out for a spell. Pretty sure there there's no restroom facilities on site. For the most part though, the Mississippi River Heritage Park is one of those parks that adds to the surrounding community of downtown New Orleans. While you may miss it from time to time, this open space is amazing. One may not notice it from the day to day, but if you do, I promise you that it will add to your day. I know it has been for me, especially with all the traveling that I do. It's always nice to take the time to enjoy the blessing that you have. The blessings come from me traveling and it was nice to see and realize that here in New Orleans and at the Mississippi River Heritage Park. You can't go wrong coming here, although best believe you may want to not be there after sunset. Not sure how it is after dark. Still it's worth coming to if you're in the French Quarter and want something outside to see. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. This would be a fun place to relax with your kids during one of the summer sessions. My friends and I attending the adults-only Sip and Dip event held on Fridays during the summer. It was very affordable for a private cabana for six with early access. Be sure to reserve your tickets for the event early online as it does sell out. It got a bit crowded toward the end, and they did run out of regular floats, though some preferred the thick floating noodles offered. Every Friday night has a different theme, so there is something for everyone. They bring in Dickie Brennans for the bar, and they were wonderful with decently priced drinks and quality alcohol. They were also creating with the mocktails. I certainly will return for another Sip and Dip either later this summer, if able, or next year. Absolutely worth it!

My first time at Cool Zoo was for the adults-only Friday night party, Sip & Dip. This event is 2X a month during the heart of the summer and features theme nights with DJs and of course since this is NOLA, people get creative and might dress in theme. I went on 80s night and the music was so fun and I loved people wearing neon, 80s tshirts and even hair and make-up. Refreshments stands are spread out among the park and they do a themed cocktail and sell beer, hard seltzer and soft drinks, along with typical concession food and popcorn. I had the cocktail of the evening, the Purple Rain and while it was eye-catching, it was so sweet and possibly strong, too, that I couldn't drink more than 1/4 of it (and it's a huge cup, fairly priced at only $13). The grounds are beautiful with fountains and an area with slides and water features that you'd normally see children dominating (with perfectly good reason) but it was actually fun to see adults having at it on the slides and at the water sprayers. Then there's the lazy river, which is a decent size, warm and full of jets to move you along. We ended up not using flotation devices and swam/walked through it. My main issue and why this event isn't personally my cup of tea: it's too crowded. It sells out but I think they sell far too many tickets. We arrived 15 min after it started and there wasn't a lounge chair nor seat at a table to be found. Cabanas are so cheap here but they sell out immediately ahead of the event, likely the day that tickets go on sale. The only way I'd return was if I could get a cabana. The lazy river is completely packed 45 minutes into the event. We were lucky enough to get a locker (which also sell out so imagine being there without a space to put your things??? how is that fun?). People are in general nice enough to hand over the inner tubes but good luck ever getting a place to sit if you didn't line up in advance of start time. I keep going back between 3 and 4 stars for the main reason that everyone who works here is SO nice. The staff really made everything bearable for me, as they were so welcoming and helpful to point out where the lockers were (there's another set behind the set you initially encounter). I just think this isn't the event for anyone who avoids crowds of people. And the crowd that was there that night were totally fine (at least early in the evening). They just sell too many tickets for me to enjoy it.

This area offers up excellent views of the City of New Orleans and some front row seats to the river boats passing by. Area has been pup friendly but due to its quite yet semi sketchy nature a leash is recommended. There are a few abandoned buildings nearby complete with mattresses, broken glass, and plenty of drug paraphernalia. Watch your step. Near the end of the land it drops down beyond the levee the a naturally made sandy area I hesitate to call a beach. You can usually find some campers set up in this area but typically they keep to themselves. Overall this little hidden gem is a decent little retreat without going outside the city. Feel free to bring a folding chair, blanket, and some suds for some r&r.

He just kept telling me to kick the horse harder and pull the reins harder. I would pull the reins up and the horse would immediately put his head back down to eat grass. I tried multiple times to get him away from the grassy area. I was afraid and felt unstable, so I grabbed the saddle and the guide fussed at me for grabbing the saddle. He repeated the same instructions over again, which weren't working, and eventually came over to me. I ended up being terrified on top of the horse. So, the guide called someone to come out and help. I didn't feel safe at that point and just asked to get down. I ended up walking back and will never get on another horse after this experience. There's no refunds. It was a total waste of time. The other workers didn't seem to believe me when I complained about the guide (big guy named Lane, I think) until the one other rider explained how disengaged the guide acted. My friend has done a bunch of trail rides and never experienced such bad service. Save your money and go do something else. This stable doesn't care about its riders.

What an amazing addition to NOLA! A group of my girlfriends and I went recently for BIPOC + allies…read morenight, and I want to buy a pass now! The place is kept very clean, there are a ton of variations of climbs to do, whether it's your first time or you're a professional. The climbing community is very welcoming and supportive, so you feel so encouraged to keep trying. One of the employees hosted a free "Bouldering 101" class for about 15-20 minutes to give helpful tips and information. Amenities include: multiple walls with climbing combinations, matts all around in case you fall, shoes (to rent if you don't have your own, you have to use specific shoes), free cubbies for your stuff, water dispenser, and a training room. 12/10, I will be back.
