Jackson square is where it's at. Where what is you ask? The local artists, art vendors, carraige tours, walking tours, and just a place to rest when you are all tired out from exploring. One of my walking tours ended here which was nice since there are a bunch of restaurants and offered a bit of shade after walking in the sun for 2 hours. On the Decantur Street side is Café Du Monde and the carraige tour line up. On the opposite end is the Louisiana State Museum and The St. Loius Cathedral. On the other ends are a bunch of retail stores and restaurants. There are psychic readers, street musicians playing jazz, and an abundance of other entertainment options. From my walking tour I learned Jackson Square was the starting point of New Orleans, after a hurricane that wiped out the city. I also learned about the Pontalba Buildings which are leased as commercial and residential units. If you have time look up Micaela Baroness De Pontalba - a powerful women even during a time when women were not allowed much power. I really enjoyed my visits to Jackson Square,it is easy to spend a leisure afternoon here. read more

Iconic, symbolic, classic, it easily transports anyone back to an historic plaza in Europe. What's a plaza without a church? St. Louis Cathedral is here, magnificent large, and in-charge. It's a plaza or square of the likes you'll see in Europe. But you're in America staring at Andrew Jackson on horseback, a classic sculpture commemorating the Battle of New Orleans. To an observer like me, this is the center of New Orleans, a symbol of her grandeur, history and the melding of cultures so religiously and politically diverse. With these conflicting influences, it is no wonder New Orleans today has become the center of fun with a staunch non-conformism encapsulated in the motto of the city, "Laissez les bon temps rouler" (Cajun French) for, "Let the good times roll". I love this square. It's one of my favorites ever: it's not only historically significant and beautiful, it's covered with artists, hip city strollers, old money NOLA, no money NOLA, tarot readers, Trent Reznor groupies/wannabees, drunks, tourists, lovers teasing, hustlers dealing, and famous Yelpers like Suzanne C. yelping, "You have not lived until you have been chased by police through Jackson Square"...... I love this square. Tip: Cafe du Monde is across the street for a powder indulgence......sugar powder indulgence. Visits: 20+ since college. read more

If I didn't have so much I wanted to do and see, I could have spent so much more time in Jackson Square. A little picnic would have been ideal. Any direction you look, you will get a picturesque view. The statue is worth taking a picture or two (or five) of. Say hello to the carriage pulling donkeys. Stop and admire the street performers. Take a peak at the street art and crafts. Even just passing by Jackson Square on your travels through the French Quarter can be pleasant. A must-do for every NOLA visitor. read more

Really, how can you give Jackson Square anything less than 5 stars? When you talk Jackson Square, you are talking classic New Orleans. The majesty of St. Louis Cathedral and the statue of Andrew Jackson that are synonymous with New Orleans and the magic of the city. The artists selling their masterpieces, street musicians putting on a show and fortune tellers that will tell you what your future holds. You know, when you get right down to it, the best parts of this city really are free. I love that you can just walk around and take it all in. Jackson Square is as good as it gets. It's the second thing that people think of when they think of New Orleans and we wouldn't have it any other way. read more

Stop and take a breath. Admire the historically inaccurate statue of Andrew Jackson (rearing horses are for folks who died in battle). Consider that this square is where early militia did maneuvers and what the city must have looked like. Enjoy the art on the fence around the square; chat up the artists and maybe even buy something. read more

There is always something going on in Jackson Square. Whether you are people watching, haunted history tour, getting your palm read, browsing local artist's work, eating, taking pictures, watching a brass band or just taking a break from walking the streets of the quarter you won't have a problem finding something to enjoy. There is so much history here and amazing photographic opportunities due to the architectural significance of this area. It's central location lends itself to me finding myself here multiple times in a day. This area can be enjoyed rain or shine. Be sure to see touch down Jesus and check out the boat that saved so many lives after hurricane Katrina. read more

This square is a beautiful park with a picturesque fountain in the middle with the awesome backdrop called St. Louis Cathedral. Since this state seems to get a lot of rain, this square has no trouble staying green. Grab your po' boys and hang out here. There are many benches for you to sit on. Some of them are romantically situated under trees too! read more

Thank God for Yelp! Otherwise I never would've found this lovely gem on my trip to New Orleans. If you're in town, you've got to stop by Jackson Square, located conveniently next to Cafe Du Monde where you can eat delicious beignets and check off a NOLA staple from your list. The St. Louis Cathedral at the heart of Jackson Square looks like the castle at Disneyland. It's a picturesque building surrounded by green space, artists, and musicians. On a sunny day, the greenery is dotted with people sitting and chatting and sunbathing. It's the perfect place to relax and spend a few hours recuperating from your late-night Bourbon street adventures. Many people get beignets from Cafe Du Monde and eat them here in front of the benches. See all those white stains in front of the benches? No, NOLA doesn't have a cocaine-snorting epidemic! read more

This famous U.S. National Historic Landmark/ Register of Historic Places faces the Mississippi River surrounded by historic buildings, including the St. Louis Cathedral. It's common to hear live music. Local artists also display their work on the square's iron fence. There is plenty of seating inside and out to sit and relax to take in your surroundings. read more

This is probably the only pretty free thing you get to do in New Orleans as a tourist. It is well kept and there are entertainers, live music, etc around always. The church is beautiful to take pictures as a background. This is a nice area to have a picnic while watching live performers. It's cheap and nice to look at, what more do you want? read more

This mall area is full of artists hawking their wares - paintings, things they've made, etc.. The tables / displays seem to change every day. For me, it was a great way to people watch while eating my to-go beignets from Cafe du Monde. There was also live music and we enjoyed sitting down on the benches and listening to the music while people watching as well. I think the best part was seeing a couple do their engagement photos in the park and around the pedestrian mall and trying to avoid getting tourists in their photo during a busy hour. read more

During my visit to Jackson Square, Love was certainly in the air! My sister held an impromptu wedding Cuz off to boot camp her husband was heading. The pretty, old buildings set the mood. Before too long, we were in search of food! There are museums and restaurants around the park. And along the fence, artists sell art. I noticed there were quite a few vagrants. Sleeping on any bench that was vacant. This is really a beautiful part of the city. Not having enough time to explore was a pity. read more

Beautiful park full of street performers and talented artists. We saw a funny magic act. We saw funny painted performers. Everyone was really nice. It was as a family friendly atmosphere a few blocks from Bourbon Street. At the back corner across Decatur sits my daughter new favorite Cafe Du Monde. The carriage ride hub is also located on the River side of the park. The music was awesome. We were fortunate to see some very talented musicians. If you're in the area it's a great place to just stroll around and take in. read more

*If someone says "For a dollar I can tell you where you got your shoes...the city and state." The correct answer is "On my feet in New Orleans, LA." Now I just saved you a dollar! Heart of the French Quarter. Artists, performers, music, food, telescopes to see the rings around Saturn, beautiful gardens and statues, people to watch...this was what I remembered most about New Orleans when I was a kid. It seemed to capture the spirit of the city. When I took my daughter there this summer it was her favorite place to be in all of NOLA. We could have set there for hours. She paid the performers. She bought a real piece of art for her room. She took photos of everything. She saw the rings around Saturn and ate everything in site. She rode in a carriage. Do much going on. The church is beautiful, the horse and buggies are lined up waiting for you and all the art work and local artist are hanging out selling their work. A cross the street is done if the vet coffee in the area. This is a great to meet up with friends, walking distance to everything and a great place to get s cab or grab a fridge on the trolly. read more

This was my favorite place that we went to in New Orleans! It's a beautiful square with lots to do. It's surrounded by lots of different restaurants, so there are plenty of food options in the area. This is the heart of the French Quarter, filled with places you've seen in photos. Artists, buskers and fortune tellers galore surround the perimeter of the park. This is also where you pick up carriage rides for tours in the Quarter, and you'll also see tons of walking tours in the area. You'll also see tons of homeless, but you'll see that everywhere in the Quarter. read more

I feel like I'm right by Princess Toadstool's castle when I'm in Jackson Square. Some of the best images and sights in a city which is filled with plenty. You get to see some gorgeous old school architecture here. Outside of the Square there are plenty of local artists and vendors selling their goods. Of course you have to try to haggle but that's half the fun. You know you're going to be checking out plenty of places to eat and drink down around here. You'd be wise to walk through Jackson Square. read more

TIP: if you need a strong data signal, face the church and go to the corner on your left hand side. Trust me on this one :-) When NOLA was in the running to host the super bowl, they wanted to be more competitive and cell coverage in / around the square was a problem, so they installed these almost hidden cell boost towers that look like period-appropriate lampposts - except there's no lamp on them. There is one just near the corner of the church. I've never gotten 5 bars with Verizon anywhere in the country, but I do here near this corner :-) see if you can spot the fake lamppost! Jackson square is really pretty touristy - it reminds me a lot of the wharf / pier 49 in San Francisco - but it's one of those things that's just part of the NOLA experience so you do it anyway. Get your requisite pics of the Andrew Jackson statue, the church, and then of course, get in line for Cafe Du Monde. See reviews for both Cafe Du Monde and The French Quarter for related information as its all the same place (Jackson square is the center of it all; cafe du Monde is directly across the street from Jackson square and the quarter is a couple square blocks around them both). You will find lots of vendors / artists selling their wares all around the square and performers putting on shows for tips. It's very, very important that here (and everywhere in New Orleans) you watch where you're walking - the sidewalks are rough, broken, and uneven (the city is built on swampland and settles very unevenly) - there are tripping hazards allll over the place if you're not careful! Please don't make the mistake of staring at your phone while walking - saw more than one person trip hard doing this! read more

The square itself wasn't super huge. It was definitely peaceful to be there. My friend said that on a warm summer's day, people lounge around and sleep in the park. Well, that was also something he did back in the days. Lol. I think if you walk around the outside perimeter of the square, there will be artwork and knick knacks to be sold, taro readings, and performances to be seen. He said it was one of the more popular places folks would fight to obtain a space. There's also the St. Louis Cathedral to one side of the square and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park on the opposing end. The park was worth a stroll through with some neat things to look at and a mini history lesson to be learned. read more

A tourist must, I'm sure this place is just as popular with the locals. There is more to do in and around this historical square than you might think. Local artist peddle their wares, small bands play and various performers perform for the change in your pocket, and you can even get your fortune told. Then there is Saint Louis Cathedral and the statue of horse-mounded Andrew Jackson, which offer an excellent backdrop for your photographic needs. read more

Please take a little tip cash with you so we can keep the true flavor of New Orleans alive. Iconic landmark in New Orleans. I'd say make this one of your first stops if you're visiting NOLA. It's right smack in the center of everything. The Cathedral is right behind the statue, across the street is Cafe du Mode. It's a small square but beautiful and picturesque. Alongside the square are a bunch of street vendors and artists. It definitely reminds me of that movie "Princess & The Frog" lol This place is gorgeous at night as well! Make sure you take a stroll here! read more

This park is one of a kind. Filled with culture, art lined up all around the edge of the park, and street performers, with a beautiful landscape and cathedral inside, and surrounded by restaurants, I'd say Jackson Square is the heart of the French Quarter and a nice break from the city to enjoy nature and art. There is so much to see and take in in New Orleans, and that rings very true for Jackson Square especially. Parking is rough so try to walk, and if you can't, be prepared to search. read more

All I can say is ditto to all other Yelpers with a five star rating. Live shows, restaurants, Tours the rich history of New Orleans, the French market, and more. Just seating out in the park and enjoying the cool (Brees) or breeze is all you need. Great for people watching and taking pictures. Cafe Du Monde is a staple in New Orleans so make sure to get your beignets. Missing out on Jackson park while visiting New Orleans is like missing the second half of a Saints game. So get out there and have fun! read more

Why check into Jackson Square and do a review, I mean who reads a review about Jackson Square? Well, it is more about the surrounding area honestly as this is one of the main attractions of the French Quarter. Shops, markets, restaurants (Cafe Du Monde!), street performers, bars, you name it and it is near Jackson Square. With that being said, this could be considered the hot spot for tourists, so the normal warnings go out, watch your stuff, get ready to drop quite a bit of cash, and deal with large tourist crowds! On a side note, take some time to sit and people watch or enjoy the beautiful spanish style church! read more

Definitely worth checking out when you're in NOLA. You'll see so many things going on. Performances, people watching, artists selling their items, music, etc - all very cool. I say a 4 because Piedmont Park in ATL to me is still the best, haha. Jackson Square is great but it's more of a street area. Not a true street but like the area has a ton of traffic that goes around everywhere building wise, too. There are horse carriages waiting around for people, so you're welcome to take them. I think I even saw a wedding proposal happen when I was here. It was a GORGEOUS day. So yeah- if it's nice, weather is solid, just in general a good day - you'll see a lot of foot traffic. Touristy feeling but Jackson Square is very cool. I'll be back! read more

This Plaza…read moreis currently under construction and is a wide open waterfront space that overlooks the Mississippi River towards Algiers. It is located between the old ferry terminal and the CityWalk shops. The main feature of the Plaza is a large fountain. It has now changed Its inner portion use to be lined with the seals of the provinces of Spain and you could also be able to walk right down to the fountain. With the renovation, both of those features are now gone. You will also find a Mardi Gras Jester statue here too. This is where one of the river cruise tour boats are docked. I did not see many benches of places to sit here, outside of sitting on the fountain and there is not much shade other than that from the Market Place and World Trade Center. There are paid parking lots, metered street parking and garages available to park, but they are all a short walk. Nothing is really close. There use to be a Fat Tuesday and seafood restaurant here, but that has since gone due to the construction. In 1976, Spain dedicated the plaza to the City in remembrance of their common historical past. It also served as a pledge of fraternity in the future. It was originally named Eads Plaza, after James Eads, the engineer who improved the navigability of the mouth of the Mississippi River. You get one of the best views of the Mississippi River Bridge from here. That is the bridge that connects the city's East and West Banks. Fun fact: This is where the Rex Crew land every year on Fat Tuesday to kick off Mardi Gras Day. The space hosts music concerts, art exhibits, rallys and festivals. I like this park, mostly for what it was in the past and what it can be. Currently there is not much here except the fountain, which is a nice one. I hope that this place reaches it potential soon. It will be awesome again.

There is also a fun water slide, giving homage to the infamous alligators with albinism who have taken residence at the Zoo and Aquarium over the years. This would be a fun place to relax with your kids during one of the summer sessions. My friends and I attending the adults-only Sip and Dip event held on Fridays during the summer. It was very affordable for a private cabana for six with early access. Be sure to reserve your tickets for the event early online as it does sell out. It got a bit crowded toward the end, and they did run out of regular floats, though some preferred the thick floating noodles offered. Every Friday night has a different theme, so there is something for everyone. They bring in Dickie Brennans for the bar, and they were wonderful with decently priced drinks and quality alcohol. They were also creating with the mocktails. I certainly will return for another Sip and Dip either later this summer, if able, or next year. Absolutely worth it!

My first time at Cool Zoo was for the adults-only Friday night party, Sip & Dip. This event is 2X a month during the heart of the summer and features theme nights with DJs and of course since this is NOLA, people get creative and might dress in theme. I went on 80s night and the music was so fun and I loved people wearing neon, 80s tshirts and even hair and make-up. Refreshments stands are spread out among the park and they do a themed cocktail and sell beer, hard seltzer and soft drinks, along with typical concession food and popcorn. I had the cocktail of the evening, the Purple Rain and while it was eye-catching, it was so sweet and possibly strong, too, that I couldn't drink more than 1/4 of it (and it's a huge cup, fairly priced at only $13). The grounds are beautiful with fountains and an area with slides and water features that you'd normally see children dominating (with perfectly good reason) but it was actually fun to see adults having at it on the slides and at the water sprayers. Then there's the lazy river, which is a decent size, warm and full of jets to move you along. We ended up not using flotation devices and swam/walked through it. My main issue and why this event isn't personally my cup of tea: it's too crowded. It sells out but I think they sell far too many tickets. We arrived 15 min after it started and there wasn't a lounge chair nor seat at a table to be found. Cabanas are so cheap here but they sell out immediately ahead of the event, likely the day that tickets go on sale. The only way I'd return was if I could get a cabana. The lazy river is completely packed 45 minutes into the event. We were lucky enough to get a locker (which also sell out so imagine being there without a space to put your things??? how is that fun?). People are in general nice enough to hand over the inner tubes but good luck ever getting a place to sit if you didn't line up in advance of start time. I keep going back between 3 and 4 stars for the main reason that everyone who works here is SO nice. The staff really made everything bearable for me, as they were so welcoming and helpful to point out where the lockers were (there's another set behind the set you initially encounter). I just think this isn't the event for anyone who avoids crowds of people. And the crowd that was there that night were totally fine (at least early in the evening). They just sell too many tickets for me to enjoy it.

This little patch of land sits along the Mississippi River and the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, better known as the Industrial Canal. This area offers up excellent views of the City of New Orleans and some front row seats to the river boats passing by. Area has been pup friendly but due to its quite yet semi sketchy nature a leash is recommended. There are a few abandoned buildings nearby complete with mattresses, broken glass, and plenty of drug paraphernalia. Watch your step. Near the end of the land it drops down beyond the levee the a naturally made sandy area I hesitate to call a beach. You can usually find some campers set up in this area but typically they keep to themselves. Overall this little hidden gem is a decent little retreat without going outside the city. Feel free to bring a folding chair, blanket, and some suds for some r&r.

He was impatient and seemed like he didn't want to be there. If you don't have any experience riding horses, this is not the place for you. (You can check one of two boxes for any experience from riding 0-10 times or more than 10 times.) The horse, Oreo, only wanted to eat grass, and I struggled as soon as we got to the park. We were told both horses were calm. The guide barked instruction from the front of the other rider instead of coming over to explain. He just kept telling me to kick the horse harder and pull the reins harder. I would pull the reins up and the horse would immediately put his head back down to eat grass. I tried multiple times to get him away from the grassy area. I was afraid and felt unstable, so I grabbed the saddle and the guide fussed at me for grabbing the saddle. He repeated the same instructions over again, which weren't working, and eventually came over to me. I ended up being terrified on top of the horse. So, the guide called someone to come out and help. I didn't feel safe at that point and just asked to get down. I ended up walking back and will never get on another horse after this experience. There's no refunds. It was a total waste of time. The other workers didn't seem to believe me when I complained about the guide (big guy named Lane, I think) until the one other rider explained how disengaged the guide acted. My friend has done a bunch of trail rides and never experienced such bad service. Save your money and go do something else. This stable doesn't care about its riders.
