I landed in London today and desperately needed an intervention on my plane hair…read more After reading reviews of other Blow lads, I specifically asked if they could do weaves before I made my appointment. Someone named Natasha replied yes, but I would need 40 minutes. No problem. Appointment made. I arrived at 6 minutes past the hour because they neglected to tell me they were inside Debenham's, and it took a couple minutes to find them once finally inside. After the person who answered spent another four minutes helping another customer, she finally returned and told me I had been 10 minutes late and they would have to curl my hair dry, as they no longer had time to shampoo and blow dry it first, else her and her colleague would both be late for their next appointments. I've never heard of shampoo and blow dry taking 10 minutes, and the reasoning for insisting they could only provide a different service from the one I had requested was dubious at best. But I was already there, so I said okay, which is probably what they were counting on. Ended up paying 30 pounds just to get my hair badly curled, with no effort made to blend the weave in with my natural hair. Total waste of money - the shampoo and blow dry steps are the value add. I can curl my hair myself, and much better at that. And by the time I was leaving, there was one more customer but two hair dressers, one of whom was now idle. They could totally have honored my initial appointment. Never coming back here again.

The atmosphere is spot on, with really friendly staff and lots of places to sit and relax while you wait for a nail technician to become available. There is a food and drink area which has a small menu offering cakes, quiches, juice, alcohol, tea and coffee. Unfortunately, you can't book in advance so, unless you arrive at a very quiet time, getting a coffee and flicking through magazines seems to be pretty much part of the experience. The usual prices for nails and hair are quite reasonable, considering that this beauty parlour is run by the same company behind Cowshed. They don't offer a full manicure, so at £10 for a shape and paint (with a free bottle of nail colour to take home) I'd say it's fairly good value if you just want a quick fix. Having nail art will vastly increase the price - especially if you're like me and prefer to have the whole set done - it's £1.50 per nail! My experience was somewhat marred by the sullen attitude of the woman doing my nails. However, I think I was just unlucky, as the other nail technicians seemed really chatty and nice. Don't get me wrong - I'm not expecting for someone to actually feign interest in my day, but a little bit of interaction and friendliness doesn't go amiss! My nail art also looked a bit amateurish, so my advice would be not to bother having nail art - it bumps up the price of your manicure and the options are fairly limited. For a special occasion, or before a big night out, this is a fun place to come with a friend. You could eat lunch or have a coffee depending on the waiting time, and after your treatments you could have a go in the 'selfie studio', which is free to use. Despite its name, I think you'd have to be a bit pathetic and vain to go in there alone!

I seem to have had a totally different experience to the previous two reviewers!…read more Initially I decided to get my hair done there, as I'd just come out of hospital and couldn't figure out how to have a shower without getting my stitches wet. They washed and blow dried my hair brilliantly twice and were charming, helpful, and the whole experience was lovely. After having such a great time with the hair side, I thought I'd get my nails done. I've had two manicures so far, which are just simple polish jobs, but it's been lovely, my technician has given me a little hand massage with each manicure and I've left with perfect nails, and super soft hands (I need to get some of their hand cream...) Did I mention that they let you take the polish home with you?? Yup! You pick your colour and get to take a lovely fresh bottle of gorgeous polish home with you. All for £15! I mean, seriously, how can you not be excited by that?? PS: They definitely do appointments now (a previous reviewer said they didn't)

She is very knowledgeable, friendly, highly skilled, professional and passionate about her work. Right from the start, her presence put me at ease and made me feel at home in her spa. She's an absolute sweetheart! I was given a thorough explanation of the procedures, her methods, and the types of waxes she uses, their individual advantages. She has wonderful bedside manner and chatted with me throughout the entire appointment. I received a Hollywood wax and from start to finish, Marta prompted me what she was going to do before she did it and what she will follow up with next. She was able to get every single hair and was very thorough (getting a couple of strays with a tweezer). The waxing was pain free and the results of the wax is silky smooth. I was given a set of aftercare instructions as well. I highly recommend her to anybody and everybody for their hair removal needs!

I'm certain it would have saved myself a lot of pain. What I liked was: (1) Marta, the owner, is very professional. She explained the treatment at detail, putting me at ease. She also explained the hygiene process and the salon is really clean. (2) Its so quick! Marta can do a full Hollywood in less than 15 mins (3) She used wax that smells of chocolate. Who doesn't like chocolate? (4) The salon is baby friendly and very relaxed, so if you have kids you can bring them along. (5) You can book online so there's no awkwardness of phoning up and explaining what wax you want. (6) There's a big jar of sweets on the desk and you can help yourself on the way out.
