Buyer beware. He is not recognized as an authority or expert by any of the authoritative institutions that actually authenticate Russian icons. The Hermitage, the Tretyakov Museum, the Andrei Rublev museum of icon or Moscow University or the Russian State Department of culture. With out authentication from one of these institutions you are buying only words. Only authenticated icons by these institutions carry weight. Experts are not retailers. Experts have PhD's and back their authentication with real science. Chemical analysis. X-ray. Dendrochronology. These are the tools of experts. This is an unregulated market full of scammers. Not experts. Ask anyone of them for proof of their claims. Will not get Xrays or chemical analysis identifying date and origin. Only an explanation about why their opinion is superior the the actual science of authentication. There is not a single scientific method or recognized authenticating institution standing behind any of his claims. Art authentication is difficult and the unscrupulous take advantage by making claims that are not true. Ask for documentation outside his opinion and there is nothing. Acquired a Salvador Dali from their May 24-25 auction. Condition report was not accurate. Print was lacking an important color. Spoke to James to try and resolve the issue. He told me how many millions of dollars his auction company does. He was irate, said he would not refund my purchase then hung up on me. I called back in 15 seconds. Worst customer service experience ever. I sent a check for payment for an auction I won through LiveAuctioneers and it was delivered to the wrong address and a car dealership cashed it. The person in the accounting department sent me an email to let me know that this error had occurred and said that the dealership would be sending me reimbursement and that I could just issue them another check. So far...so good, although it's now been two weeks since I sent payment. Two weeks later, no check. I called Jackson's and talked with this person in their accounting department, and was told to contact the dealership myself. Really? This is now my problem and I'm in Arizona and they're in Iowa? After stating to her I'd call the dealership, but I was fed up and wanted to cancel the deal, she threatened to file a dispute with LiveAuctioneers! She adopted an "it's not my problem" attitude with me instead of a "what can I do to make it right" customer service attitude. Admittedly, I got a little hot under the collar and told her she didn't have to take that tone or threaten me. But still...these are folks I want to do business with?? I think not! read more

Not only do you get to pay the 28% commission BUT you also get to pay shipping costs on their terms and finally you get to wait for them to ship it when they feel like it. 44 days AFTER the end of the auction, I received the item I won. Do yourself a favor - read the reviews left for Jackson's Auctioneers - there is a common theme - "Worst customer service ever experienced"...and the best, the one I should have heeded, "Steer clear of these folks." Unmitigated GREED! Won an auction item on Liveuctioneers. They charge 30% Buyer's Premium, which I accepted, but then they charge an additional Premium if you used credit cards, and they charge outrageous shipping charges from their in-house service. Avoid this auction house unless you want to get ripped off. They even charge $25 for interbank wire charges on the RECEIVING end. Who does that? Grubbing for every single cent possible. Avoid this company. There are many other reputable auction houses elsewhere. read more

Usually auction houses are to be places where a person's word is as good as a sign contract. In fact the whole premise is that people bid on an item under the assumption that if they win the item they will be paying for it. By the same token what the company agrees to do should also be held by the same standard. In fact the President James Jackson had promised by a series of e-mails that he would give an formal appraisal value for one of my items. After he agreed on it through his secretary and agreed on a fixed charge of $600.00 to do it (having supplied the minutes details about the item on several occasions). I get an e-mail saying that they have decided not to do the appraisal any more. Is this how an action house should behave (is this not a breach of an agreement). What if their customer used this same technique after having bid and won an item. This should be evaluated by every person who is interested in doing business with them.
