DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN MONEY UPFRONT! I contacted Jeremy to remodel my bathroom on March 13, 2024. We…read moremade an appointment twice for him to come out to see the project and he couldn't make it work. We ended up texting about the project, sent photos back and forth and he gave me some round about figures. On April 2 I told him I had everything picked out and the items were being delivered. One the 3rd I asked him what his timeframe was and he said a week. He said his next big job is 3 weeks to a month out and my job should take 2 weeks average. Delivery was scheduled for the 9th. We made plans for him to be over to look at everything on April 13th around noon. At noon I texted and asked what time he would be over and he told me he was getting ready to leave and it would be about 45min. Later that day he texted a quote. I told him everything sounded good and I wanted my project done ASAP. He wanted a $1500 deposit and came back to my house a couple of days later to pick up the cash. (the only time he was ever on time and actually showed up much earlier than discussed.) I told him to make sure and bring a contract and a receipt, which he did. Two days after receiving the deposit I saw on his FB page that he bought an above ground pool for his daughter. He reached out on April 23rd to say the fence job he was working on was taking a "few more days due to the rain" so he couldn't get to my project like he originally stated and said it would be another week. On the 29th I asked when he thought he would be able to start. He told me to be patient and he said he told me 3 weeks when in actuality when he was at my home to pick up the deposit he said 2. On May 4th I told him if my job was going to keep being pushed back I would like my deposit back and I would give it to him closer to my start date. I told him with all the rain my finished basement flooded and I had damages so I could use the money while I waited. He texted that my job was, "starting next week" and "the deposit is what secures your job." I asked, "next week as in the 6th or the 13th?" he said 13th. He also asked if I was "going to have issues when payment is due." I said no that I was aggravated that he said he had 2 jobs ahead of mine and now it's going to be 4 weeks. He said he could give me my deposit minus $220 consultation fee (Never EVER discussed and not in the contract) and I could find someone else to do the job. I told him all I was doing was asking. On the 12th, Mother's Day I asked what time he was coming over the next day since he told me he would be starting the 13th. He just texted back "Not done yet." I asked where and when could i meet to get my money back? Now he said he was going to charge me a consultation AND a cancellation fee (Neither of which are in the contract) not to mention; I would have to wait for him to complete his current job. He said, "Will be in cash just like you gave it" I told him there was no mention of either fee and they are not in the contract so he could not charge me these fees. He said, "That's not how that works. There is no cancellation clause written because people don't cancel. My time is money." I told him my time is too. He then said, "Ok lady you gonna have to chill. You're demanding attitude ain't flying with me today." (All in text) I told him, "people cancel when you give them the run around. Your attitude hasn't been flying with me either on Mother's Day and I don't need any of this." I told him, "you said you would be here in a week and then the 13th so I had to ask." He asked where I was getting this information and then sent a long diatribe. I said, "I guess you forgot everything you told me and sent him a screenshot. I also told him if I didn't have my money by Wednesday I would file suit against him. He told me, "I don't walk away with nothing" and insisted that he charge me $250. I told him per his own contract he could not charge me and he said nothing verbally about any fees upfront. On the 13th he said I threw a tantrum which was not even close to the truth. I was simply asking when he was going to start because he kept telling me he would start then acted like I was crazy when I wanted to hold him to the timeframe given. (By this time he had built the above ground pool that I assume my deposit went toward, built a full deck around it and had done around 6 jobs per Facebook) I told him I would sue him for my deposit, plus fees and punitive damages. He texted, "do whatever you feel you need to do Karen." I told him I would win in court and he said he would mail me a check. I told him I paid cash so I want cash because I wasn't going to hear his excuses about how "the check's in the mail." On May 15th I asked where I could meet to pick up the money and he didn't respond. I told him by his silence I could tell I was going to have to sue him. He told me to stop and that a check was coming by certified mail and would be here Tuesday. No check. I told him certified checks have tracking number

Mr. Handyman is one of two companies in the St. Louis area that's certified to install Bilco steel doors. Here's the timeline for the engagement: July 22 or 23 - Handyman comes out to assess for quote. He said he'd have it done in 1-2 days. July 25 - I call and am told it can take up to a week for a quote. August 1 - I call back and I am told that Michelle, the office manager, is on vacation. No quotes processed without her. I wasn't told this when I called the previous week. August 7 - I get the quote. August 8 - I mail the check at my post office in Belleville. August 13 - Mr. Handyman confirms they received the check. August 16 - The Bilco door is ordered by Mr. Handyman. August 19 - Mr. Handyman cashes my deposit check for the door. August 23 - I call twice and leave messages. I am concerned that they received the check ten days previous, and they still don't know when the door will arrive. This is also a month after the handyman's visit. August 30 - The door is installed. I ordered a gray door. The door delivered to me was reddish-orange. The handyman told me that the Bilco factory didn't have gray in stock, so they ordered this color. Why did the back office at Mr. Handyman use my money to buy the wrong-colored doors without asking me, and then no one explains until they're in front of me and I asked? The handyman volunteered to paint the doors white to match my trim. I thought that was a nice customer service gesture. However, I bought the gray doors so that they wouldn't need to be painted and re-painted. The doors were hung with one a quarter-inch lower than the other. It's noticeable, especially when you see the handles. I politely asked the handyman why one door was lower than the other. He told me that he couldn't adjust them, which didn't answer my question. The problem with moving either door is that they're attached to a wooden frame under sheet metal. I think fixing it would require replacing the wood on that side. Anyway, I was presented the final bill. It was wrong. We had to call the office to verify and correct it. I waited five and a half weeks for new basement doors in the wrong color that aren't aligned right. I signed off and paid the balance. What a debacle. Next week I'll talk to someone else to see if there's any way to correct it. My handyman was a nice guy. He mentioned he has a heart condition, and I didn't want him out there in the hot weather any longer. I could've raised hell, but it had been such a bad engagement, and this guy looked beat. However, I felt that my overall experience was worth sharing. Earlier in all of this, I'd asked Mr. Handyman for a quote on other work. My handyman seemed to know his stuff and I had other small problems to fix. That quote took three weeks to receive. I actually forgot it. I had other people quote and do the work in that time. Unfortunately, the business was Mr. Handyman's to lose. In summary: I can't recommend this company in good conscience. They are on the less expensive size for mid-size jobs, but the organization lacks professionalism, and the work wasn't quite up to standard. Thank you. Edit: Reading the Bilco documentation, these doors are primed, but not painted. This is my mistake.
