This place is worth finding. Albeit it is kind of dusty as it is old. There are a lot of interesting artifacts here. If you are not observant and curious, you will lose interest quickly. The highlight of our visit was the docent. As we were the only customers there, she spent a good bit of time with us. I look forward to our next trip to the island, I'd like to talk to her again. She was a sweet person with the knowledge of an encyclopedia. Washington Island is a national treasure. This museum will help you understand why this is so. Cannot wait for our yearly trip (car and ferry or our own boat), as this island is like a cool foreign country. The museum is free; but we always donate a couple of bucks. You should, too. read more

Not a whole lot to see here, but I wasn't expecting a lot. Some old tools/ship parts to look at, a walkway down to the lake, a small reproduction of Jens Jacobsens cabin, and a small museum full of arrowheads, scrimshaw, and other artifacts. Free, but they accept donations. read more

We loved this place. We were on the island for a soccer games and wanted to see as much of the island as possible between games, so we rushed through. The grounds are beautiful. The cabins are located right on Little Lake. Thera re some neat larger artifacts outside. There is a small cabin that's is packed with Native American and early European settler artifacts. The best part was a very patient woman who probably volunteers. We must have seemed disinterested because of our rush, but I'm so glad that she continued talking and explaining as we walked through. We learned a lot in the short time that we were there. We will go back! It's also free! What a really nice treasure for families to visit. It's also a few minutes from School House Beach. read more
