She happily answered our questions about the food, and the choices we were going to make. We shared a house salad which was plentiful and had a nice accompaniment of dried cranberries and almonds. Both items are things that are often scrimped upon as they are complimentary items that aren't an inexpensive addition. For our mains I got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and the lovely K the turkey dinner. Both were excellent, with the meatloaf wrapped by bacon, likely the local Hertel variety which was incredible. Real mashed potatoes and veggies cooked to my perfect taste along with gravy. Easy 5 out of 5, as was K's turkey, also accompanied by mashed potatoes and veggies. The decor is pure sports bar, but the sound on the tv's was down so you could actually talk without the usual noise. The Canucks were in Nashville so we watched the game and enjoyed a very very nice meal. Sadly we couldn't finish it all, and with a travel day tomorrow we had to send it away, what a shame. It took a bit for someone to notice us, though a sign said to wait to be seated. Once we were seated, service was relatively quick, at least to get us started with drinks. My whiskey tasted like it had sat on the shelf for ages, not rotating stock. I had to have them take it back, though they tried to say it was my fault for ordering ice with my drink. The food all came out relatively quickly once we were able to place our order, but it was just okay. Nothing was spectacular, and after the initial impression, that did not bode well for the establishment. The one positive is that, unlike other very busy locations around Friday Harbor, they stayed open late and were able to seat us, though the reason for that was everything I've stated above, slower service, poor drinks, and just okay food. The lack of people frequenting the establishment should have been a red flag, but it was late and we were hungry. Needless to say, we did not return during our long weekend stay on the island and, unless they're the only folks open when you need a bite, I might suggest you look elsewhere.

So... This is a bizarre review…read more.. The food, I have to say, was pretty good. Solid pub fare. The most enjoyable hot wings I've had at a pub in years. Nachos that were cheesy and loaded with toppings. Weird toppings maybe, and a very strange tasting salsa, but not bad... The ambiance on a Monday night is a little meh. Only about 6 tables seated in quite a large, voluminous space, made it feel a little vacuous. Maybe if they turned their lights down a bit the vibe might be a bit nicer. They sure like their decorative lights here.... The server was very nice. Pleasant, but could have come around to check on things a couple times more, especially since it was so quiet. Now, for the weird part... Toward the end of my nachos I lost my appetite when I saw a mouse scurrying on the floor. It was very daring and was exploring under tables right up to me. I notified my server and she said "oh we know, we try to catch them but it's difficult. I think we caught one a couple days ago. Yesterday I saw one run up the stairs. I'm sorry you had to see that. Would you like a box for your nachos?" Um, no thanks! I finished my drink while watching this mouse wander around a few more times, and ANOTHER mouse come out from the opposite side of the room. and decided it was time to leave. There was no other response from my server about this - I just paid my bill and left. I get that this is a port town close to water, but it seems like these folks probably need to get a bit more serious about pest control.

The bartender, Lucy, repeatedly added money to the tip jar without asking, which left me feeling like my money was being taken without my consent. The food has also gone downhill, and the area around the bathrooms consistently smelled like urine. The biggest reason I won't return is the new security guard. Based on my own experience, he previously came into the bar when he didnt work there and frequently made young women uncomfortable by hitting on freshly 21-year-old customers and staring at people from the corner and makeing nasty comments . Now he's working security and using his phone while checking IDs, which did not make me feel comfortable. I know this man and im not letting him take photos of my id for his stash. The atmosphere has completely changed. What used to feel like a neighborhood bar now feels like an over-policed club. Security constantly follows customers around, making it impossible to relax and enjoy yourself. On top of that, the security guard regularly smokes in the entrance, blowing cigarette smoke toward customers as they walk in. It's unprofessional and creates a terrible first impression. From what I personally observed, many of the other employees seemed frustrated with the behavior of these two staff members as well. After more than a decade of being a loyal customer, I'm extremely disappointed in what this place has become. I can't recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of better bars that treat their customers with respect.
