So... This is a bizarre review... The food, I have to say, was pretty good. Solid pub fare. The most enjoyable hot wings I've had at a pub in years. Nachos that were cheesy and loaded with toppings. Weird toppings maybe, and a very strange tasting salsa, but not bad... The ambiance on a Monday night is a little meh. Only about 6 tables seated in quite a large, voluminous space, made it feel a little vacuous. Maybe if they turned their lights down a bit the vibe might be a bit nicer. They sure like their decorative lights here.... The server was very nice. Pleasant, but could have come around to check on things a couple times more, especially since it was so quiet. Now, for the weird part... Toward the end of my nachos I lost my appetite when I saw a mouse scurrying on the floor. It was very daring and was exploring under tables right up to me. I notified my server and she said "oh we know, we try to catch them but it's difficult. I think we caught one a couple days ago. Yesterday I saw one run up the stairs. I'm sorry you had to see that. Would you like a box for your nachos?" Um, no thanks! I finished my drink while watching this mouse wander around a few more times, and ANOTHER mouse come out from the opposite side of the room. and decided it was time to leave. There was no other response from my server about this - I just paid my bill and left. I get that this is a port town close to water, but it seems like these folks probably need to get a bit more serious about pest control. read more

Nice place to hang out. It's a bit pricy but we came on Thursday which they have all food half price. Food was great, but I wouldn't order Spicy Surf and Turf if there's no discount($22). Staff are friendly, we liked the atmosphere and everything. Will come back again on Tuesdays or Thursdays (half price days). read more

Nice relaxed atmosphere, laid back. Cold beer and decent "pub grub" I had the chicken strips and fries, pretty good but their fries could use work. Not crispy or fresh. I love the ambiance , like an airport made of toasters . The face of mushroom is the uncooked resolution of a menu designed by the imparted stomach crowd , not to be a complete beetle but dining in a mustard vacuum is a danger zone. read more

This is really nice looking pub for the area that is in, and the atmosphere is good. The food isn't great and I wouldn't recommend it. Every time we have eaten here we have been disappointed so eventually we just stopped ordering food. The main problem is with the beer. They consistently under-serve & don't provide a legal pint. They are generally in a hurry when pouring, and shortchange their customers with foam. A recent price change made this unbearable resulting in at least a 25% increase when combined with their less than full glasses. The only real solution is to send your beer back, report them, or simply go elsewhere. I chose the latter after this fell on deaf ears. Avoid. There are more honest alternatives that will save you money. read more

This is probably the most underrated place to eat in Nanaimo. I've eaten all over Nanaimo in my visits here and from my experience having eaten all across Canada and the world this is a truly great place to eat. Up until I had their seafood chowder, the best I've ever had was in Dublin Ireland. This is my new favourite. Give it a try. With half priced food on Tuesday's and Thursday's, this place is a steal. read more

I agree on its "underratedness". I typically use this place for others to strive to be like. They have 1/2 price nights on food something extremely hard to find, nice atmosphere, lots of tv's, add good attitudes by the staff. We've been many times and the food has been so good we've kept going. I'm not sure if I can say that about many other places with this type of formula but I certainly go to a lot of pubs that need to do more like this place. The calamari has been bad and good but all restaurants need consistency. It seems to be a young feel but if you look around all age groups go there. Am thinking that one review from 2014 saying its like tv dinner food must be the 1% of reviews and am surprised there aren't more positive reviews for this place. Go for a few drinks or just eat. im giving this place 2 stars and all the stars should go to our waitress, who was awesome and adorable. Look, i know this is Nanaimo and the food scene is struggling BIG TIME, so i always keep this in mind when i go out to eat, especialy at a pub. but how can you F up pub food? Well they did just that last night. My girl got the Thai wrap which was wrapped horribly and ultra bland, stuffed full of unseasoned cheap noodles. and a side salad. I had the Veggie Clubhouse on sour dough. no mayo. Im on a diet so i HAD to have the veggie choice. first off the sour dough was old, that was the first thing i tasted, the veg in the sandwich was all chopped up into little bits which made it impossible to eat without all falling out. it also resembled the chopped veg in the salad mmmm..... i HAD to ask our lovely waitress who the chef was, she told us his name and my girl knew him from a previous restaurant. i hope the owner reads this Yelp because all i can say is find the original chef! the first chef that had the reins was amazing. he did a pulled pork wrap that i still talk about after all these years, i still remember the taste for petes sake! im craving right now and its 930am! anyways to the "chef" of Old City Station, Please use salt and pepper they are your best friends! Train your cooks proper! be there with them and be there for them. who cares what the scores of the last lawn bowling game was. Do something to the Veg sandwich, ie: roast the red peppers! grill the red onions! nice tomato slices! nice slices of cucumber! SALT AND PEPPER! and dont say its the mayo that seasons the food. the point of a veggie burger is to make it better than the next guys. Veggie eaters are the first poeple to talk about their food to other poeple. last but not least. PRIDE! PRIDE! PRIDE! i can say that word enough. As soon as you or your cooks lose this, its time to quit or move on. this is something all cooks must poscess, this cant be trained. this separates cooks from chefs. there are lots of jobs the world doesnt need, but people need cooks! poeple HAVE to eat! so make it good! Since this place is a pub the food is easier to make good AND you can have fun with it! As a chef myself (yes, a real one) i try not criticize, just try and make suggestions. food can always get better. all it takes is research. from books, from other restaurants, from your favorites chef,and google! Just be sure to make it your own. since Nanaimos food scene is kinda weak, and right now downtown is not a hot spot this is your chance to pull away from that. last night was a tuesday night, a game night, so the place had eaters. i bet more people eating there than any other restaurant in the downtown scene. how many good pubs are in downtown? that show the game? that have good sevice? that are even open?! ill let you answer that one. all im saying to the chef. you can do better. ill be back in a month and ill order the veggie sandwich on sour dough. hope i taste the change. if not, than quit your job....theres always barber college. thanks for reading the first review/post ive ever wrote. read more

This place is GREAT! The wait staff are fabulous, the food is delicious, and actually reaches your table hot! I highly recommend the coconut crusted prawns.
