It's been rainy and grey in Seattle since October. I needed some vitamin D. When I got to Lagos, I started looking for surf lessons and board rental shops. I searched TripAdvisor & Google reviews. Most shops had overall positive feedback but also had negative feedback too. Every shop except this shop. They were 5 STAR rated. Reading through the reviews of them, was very encouraging. I decided to go visit them. Upon entering the shop for the first time, you realize this is a surf board shop. Not a clothing shop that also rents surfboards. This is what the real board shops look like that I visited in the USA & Brasil. There focus is on the boards, and it shows. They have all the top brands in the different styles and sizes. I was pleasantly suprrised to see they also had Tomo boards to purchase / rent. I've not seen that outside of the USA. There were two people who greeted me who I assume were the owners. They welcomed me in and we chatted for a bit. I explained what I was looking for and then the guy took me over to find the right board for me, while the gal looked up the different beaches to show me where I should go. The board I ended up renting was brand new! I was the first rider on it. While the guy was waxing the board, the gal explained the tides a bit for the Lagos area and gave me some tips and tricks. 15 minutes later I had a board and all the info I needed to enjoy a day of surfing in Lagos. And with their tips, I knew that the tide went out again at 4pm so I should hit it up shortly after and I can get an evening surf session in. Both the owners were fantastic. They gave me excellent service and rented me the perfect board for my day of surfing for a great value. I would highly recommend you check these guys out when visiting Lagos.

What's more, the team is incredibly hospitable and fun to talk to, with very helpful tips on how to best experience the place. Definitely going back for more bicycle rides and probably some surf as well. I'd also highly recommend checking out their website and blog there, because it's great for ideas on where to go and how best to do it.

At 9am, we met Mika at Dona Ana Beach, where we would be SUPing along the incredible golden cliffs and little dotted islands, weaving in and out of magical caves for 3 hours. The boards were great quality + they provided wet suits + Mika helped give us a debriefing on SUP skills - I finally felt like I knew what I was doing this time! He also used his waterproof camera to take photos of us, allowing us to be fully immersed in the experience. After we made it back to shore, we took a break, allowing Mika to take the other SUPers back to their hotel, and allowing us to enjoy our picnic lunch on the seriously beautiful Dona Ana Beach. At 3pm, we met Mika at the next location where we would be Coasteering..!! My husband was way excited, while I was pretty much way nervous, but Mika really did a wonderful job making sure I felt comfortable and supported the entire time. I can honestly say that I had absolute BLAST and am so grateful to have experienced such a beautiful part of our world in this sort of an adventurously-intimate way. My husband did a few of the higher jumps towards the end, while I happily cheered him on. The highlight of the day was the mesmerizing GREEN CAVE! At the end of the day, because we were in our camper van, we loved the location he had taken us so much, that we actually ended up staying for 5 days! We would have never found this beautiful little cove without them. We had an unforgettable day stand up paddling with Coastline Algarve. Doing SUP in the ocean,…read moreexploring caves that normally can't be reached by boat or kayak is great experience. I literally forgot where I'm and why, it was just the sun, the ocean and our small group enjoying the tour. Nelson did a great job to prepare us for the SUP tour, he individually coached everybody how to cope with the sea conditions. We were smoothly introduced to new SUP techniques while slowly touring grottos where sun light is magically reflected in the transparent water. Besides the equipment the SUP school provides wetsuits, which was perfect considering the relatively cool water of the ocean. Amazing experience and thanks for the beers! We would definitely love to try the coasteering tour next time we are in Sagres.
