I've been going to see Dr. Cruz for the better part of fourteen years and I've always been impressed with the level of care and service he and Ms. Fernandez provide. Ms. Fernandez, NP, is great to work with as well, and I really enjoy exchanging ideas with her as to how to better manage my diabetes. I really like that both Dr. Cruz and Ms. Fernandez rotate the appointments so I see them every other time I am at the office. Sort of a "fresh" set of eyes when I have an appointment. This gives me a chance to discuss my latest lab results, how I have felt since the last appointment, and any other issues I feel are pertinent to my ongoing diabetic care. At one point Dr. Cruz was in practice with another doctor in the same office, and it was chaotic at times. It has been a couple of years since they have parted ways and I like the environment much better now. Now I can go to an appointment and expect to be in and out within an hour, more or less. The staff has always been helpful, and when I need any supplies because I have run out, or I am waiting to get refilled by my mail order pharmacy, they always give me enough supplies, i.e. insulin pens, strips, etc. to hold me over. While the doctor is great and all, Dawn ( apparently the director) has horrible bedside manner, gives attitude and has zero patients for patients. She raised her voice at me over the phone after I sent a message about a transfusion being cancelled for the third time. While I understand maybe your office has no control over the situation you should train your staff To be kind and informative and helpful. Not rude, mean and down right dismissive. These people who run the front desk are a complete disgrace to this practice. My very first visit I was overcharged for my co-pay. Today I was contacted about coming back into the office to do get results from bloodwork. Person asked if I'd like to make an appt. I said sure.... As I was waiting I asked her if I could get results uploaded to my portal like I have with all other doctors I see. For can they just give bloodwork results over the phone. The unqualified person raises her voice and says rudely that the office doesn't do tele visits. I then tell the very rude person, I do not need to be schooled in what tele visits is because I'm familiar with this. However uploading results r giving the results over the phone isn't a tele visit. She then said I should call back at a later time then after I'd already said at the beginning of like to make an appointment. I tell her again I want to make an appointment now. We all know calling back is a hassle because they don't answer the phone. She going up on me. It's a darn good thing the office was closed. I drove straight over there and it would not have been a nice conversation. I will not rebook an appt with this office and I will pick up my results to take elsewhere. Dr Cruz' staff areinconsiderate and not helpful with regard to billing inquires and refunds owed to me. I paid for an office visit even though my insurance had paid the outstanding balance. In good faith, I paid the amount due to avoid rescheduling my current appoint. I was assured I would be reimbursed as soon as my insurance payment was posted to my account. They finally posted my insurance payment but have not issued my refund. It has been 10 months and they keep avoiding me and they deleted my portal account. I have no access to my medical records or lab results. The office manager ignores all my request to resolve this issue. Dawn and her billing practices and customer service are setting this practice up for failure. I'm beginning to feel very helpless regarding some issues I've run into with her. She is incredibly rude on the phone and has reduced me to tears twice now. There doesn't seem to be any one else to talk to about billing. She would've been fired from any other company by now if her calls were being listened to. Dawn does not return calls to insurance companies, as a policy, but did not inform me of this until months into my insurance leaving her voicemails. My insurance is telling me that this practice is balance billing me, and has told me I do not owe the balance that is showing on my account with Dr. Cruz's office. Dawn disagrees but cannot patiently explain why and has not provided any evidence. I've been coming to this practice for 5 years. But having to play middle-man between insurance and Dawn has delayed my healthcare for months and I now need to find a new Endocrinologist. With this specialty, patients need regular bloodwork review and delays can mean very negative health outcomes. For the five star reviewers here- I'm so glad that Dawn has never made an error on your account because you all are right, Dr. Cruz and Miss Fernandez are solid practitioners. This man has an outstanding resume and an outstanding manner. However, his credentials are flawed in that the staff he employs are among the worst I have ever heard of. My Wife has used him and is being forced to go to another doctor because his staff is so out of their league compared to him. It's like, have you ever met someone you thought was brilliant and then you met their spouse and then thought, he can't be as smart as I thought he was. Our insurance Company even said they hope our invoice goes to collections because even they will understand the bills have been paid. His office staff is literally stupid. That is a mean word, but there is no other way to say it. I read a review of someone who said Dr. Cruz called him in 2017 and apologized on behalf of his staff, but obviously, he didn't take action. Good Doctor but be WARNED if you are a Medicare patient. Service providers have 12 months by Medicare regulations to submit claims to Medicare. In our case, and confirmed by Medicare, they NEGLECTED to submit a claim for a doctor's visit back in 2023 within the obligatory 12 months' timeframe. 24 months later, they passed the charges they had failed to collect to my mother, and if we didn't pay, they were going to deny her follow up medical services. Basically, they punished my mother for their dereliction of duty. Trying to communicate with them is impossible. They do not return phone calls or answer messages through their useless digital portal. Calling the Texas Attorney General Fraud Auditors and the Medicare Fraud Department was time consuming due to bureaucratic red tape, and will take months until they contact Dr. Cruz' office, plus who knows how long for Dr Cruz' billing department to answer. In the meantime, we have to suck up their illegitimate charges. Be warned. read more

I will say, visit with Dr Cruz was ok but this office does not CARE about it's patients. They do not answer the phone, their office staff is indifferent to the needs of the patients. I was warned that this was the case by previous patients, but I thought it could not be that bad. Boy was I wrong. I spoke to their billing dept but the person who does their billing was no help at all and would not even try. The insurance co gave me a reference number for the dr office to call and straighten out the discrepancy - I went to the dr office - they refused to call the insurance co - it was not their problem - it was mine and I needed to straighten it out myself. It would have taken just a few minutes of this persons time to help me out - but they just did not care. My wife has been calling and calling to just pay her bill. I think her last count was 6 times in a period of a week. I know they don't answer the phones and apparently the manager doesn't care to do her job because when my wife finally got somebody to pick up the phone she told them the same story about leaving message after message and the response was that the manager should have called you. Heck if they don't respond to calls what is the sense of having an office. For heaven's sake this dr. doesn't really care about the care of his patients if he doesn't check out these horrible ratings. I am not often moved to write negative reviews, but I felt this one was strongly needed. I have been a patient of Dr. Cruz for a couple of years now, and am not by any means a high maintenance patient. However, the service of the staff has declined severely in this time frame. To start, when you call their office, no one answers the phone. This became a problem about 6 months ago when I needed a prescription refill. My pharmacy couldn't reach them either. Further, when you leave an appt, they don't schedule it for you at that time. They require you to download their app (which also does not work, I've tried to find this provider on it to no avail), and you're lucky if they send you an appt card via mail. In order to solve these problems, I usually have to go to their office in person to speak with them, which is highly inconvenient. This leads me to today - I went in person to bring by a pre-authorization form (I don't have a fax machine so this was the only way I could do it). My insurance is very particular in that all blood labs need to be pre-approved. The receptionist proceeds to tell me that their office does not file these, and that the out-of-pocket cost for these tests are *only* $100. I walked out and fumed in my car for a few minutes...*only* $100? Well, multiply that times about 5-8 (my TSH fluctuates quite a bit and I need to get it checked quite often), and if I pay out of pocket, it doesn't go toward my deductible. I went back inside, at 11:48 (their office closes at 12 for lunch), and the lights were already off. I knocked on the door, hoping that I could speak with someone, and she did open the back door. I asked to speak to a supervisor, which she informed me wasn't available. How is that possible? Dealing with insurance is in their job description, and she didn't want to file it. Also - why close more than 10 minutes before a scheduled lunch break? This is the kind of treatment you will receive from their staff - not wanting to help with insurance, answering the phone, or assistance with facilitating a prescription refill. It's very unfortunate because Dr. Cruz and Dr. Fernandez are good, kind doctors. read more

Dr. Cruz is very attentive, caring, and professional, and with the convenience of the in-house Quest lab for blood work and the STRIC facility across the hall from his office for imaging needs, patients can accomplish all required testing along with the scheduled office visit. MOST INCOMPETENT DOCTORS OFFICE EVER!!!! All they want is their money, and front office girl is one of the most dry, and rude staff members ever!! I have been going there for years (stupid me, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of changing!) however today I am done! They've had me coming every 3 months for bloodwork, however I don't hVe a thyroid, and due to their poorly control of it, it's extremely low every time.. and here's the kicker... they NEVER INCREASE MY MEDS!! I love this doctor but his entire staff is terrible. The lab tech butchered me the first time I visited.. She was incapable of finding a vein. Then while digging, she hit a muscle which left a massive bruise, swelling and soreneness for over a week. I have lab work regularly and this was the worst experience I've ever had so I will never let her draw my blood again.. I was scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Cruz next week and he needed labs drawn. I called today for assistance with a lab slip so I could have my blood drawn for him at my Hemotologist office since I will be there for lab work already this week and they both use LabCorp. LabCorp is doing a system update this week. My lab tech at the hemotologist office was happy to run the labs for me but unable to pull it electronically from Dr.Cruz during the update. All I needed was a paper lab slip instead. When I called Dr. Cruz office, Dawn advised me that my hemotologist office could help if they wanted to but but they don't want to and that's not her problem and she refused to help me with a lab slip. Worse, she just kept running her rude mouth and talking over me when I tried to ask for other options. She told me her office is going through an update too and they aren't having a problem so it's the other doctors issue. Dawn just kept talking over me and bashing my other doctor rather than trying to assist. She hung up on me twice. I canceled my appointment with Dr. Cruz and will no longer be seeing him. No one should be treated this badly when trying to get assistance with medical care. I'm done and that's too bad because he is such a great doctor but the pain of dealing with these women isn't worth the hassle. His medical assistant rolled her eyes at me during my last appointment after asking me the same question 3 times and receiving the same answer. The lab tech was rough when drawing blood on my first visit and had no regard for me as a patient. She literally man handled me through the process. I get weekly IV infusions. I am no stranger to the needle but she was terrible. I've tolerated high school mean girls behavior during every interaction so far because I like the doctor so much I've let it go but this was the last straw. The staff doesn't want to help patients. They want to be condescending and right but none of them actually listen. The last 2 times I was in there the assistant taking my vitals was dressed for the rodeo, not a doctor office and her tassles were a distraction because she whips them around when she walks. She is also the office eye roller. What is going on in this place?? Dr. Cruz needs to reevaluate his staff. It looks like I'm not the only patient suffering this chaos according to other reviews. It's infuriating! Where did these women get an education in patient care?? Apparently nowhere because there is none of that happening in that office. This is the most ridiculous Dr office I ever visited. I was referred to Dr Cruz by my primary care physician. I went to see Dr Cruz and was quite impressed with his service. A follow up appointment with his nurse after 3 months was scheduled. I kept this appointment and was seen by her. A second appointment was scheduled. I missed this appointment and called to let them know as I was out of town due to my job. I subsequently got a bill in the mail for some astronomical amount for the missed appointment. I have called no less than 20 times and left messages to make a new appointment. I started going to Dr. Cruz in July 2014. I've had three appointments so far. I had seen another endo for four years prior to switching. Dr. Cruz took the time to thoroughly explain the risks of my large thyroid nodule. He even drew a picture. Because of his explanation, I decided to proceed with surgery and found out that the nodule was cancerous - which Dr. Cruz said was a risk despite multiple benign FNA results. I am very grateful to have found Dr. Cruz. He has been in practice for many years, and even though he tends to seem more conservative, albeit "old school", I would rather be cautious than a risk-taker with my health. read more

Dr Cruz is an excellent endocrinologist. I say this as a nurse and a patient. He really knows his stuff. He's excellent about ordering the proper tests and getting your medication regulated just right. He has a great bedside manner and he listens well to patient input. That being said, if I were only rating him it would be 5 stars, but it is his office staff that brings his score down. I have never dealt with a more incompetent group of staff members at any physicians office. They use absolutely no common sense. I have to wonder if they have 3 brain cells between the lot of them. One example; I was out of town for a little over a month in an in patient pain management program. I was scheduled to see him during the month I was to be gone. I called in advance and told the staff that due to a separate medical issue I would be in hospital out of state. They said it was no problem and to call when I got back. So, when I got back I called and made an.appointment for asap which wasn't until May. I explained to the secretary that I would be needing refills of my diabetes medication until I could be seen. I was told that this was no problem and to have my pharmacy contact them. I had CVS contact them, but the RX wasn't getting filled and I was out. I called the office and the woman with no common sense told me that because I "missed" my March appointment they wouldn't refill my meds until I was seen. I re-explained to her the situation and why I had been gone. She couldn't have cared less. She behaved as though I just didn't show up for my appointment, which was absolutely not the case. I asked her what I was supposed to do without medication as a diabetic. She responded that it wasn't her problem or concern. I assured her if I went into a diabetic coma it absolutely would be their concern. She behaved with total indifference and unwillingness to help. I had to get the nurse from my primary doctor's office to call them and persuade them to give me my meds. My insurance requires a 90 day supply but this secretary would only call in 30 days. So after fighting all day to get my meds I ended up having to pay completely out of pocket for enough meds to hold me over. I'm certain that if the doctor knew the whole situation there wouldn't have been a problem. However, this particular secretary had a chip on her shoulder and a bad attitude from the moment I first spoke to her. She was actually going to leave a diabetic with NO medication. She needs to understand that people die from that. The absolute WORST office staff ever.This is only one example of many frustrating interactions I have had with this staff. So my review meets in the middle; 5 stars for Dr.Cruz, 0 stars for his staff. If I could give negative stars for the staff I would. read more
