My first stop here I was double charged on my debit card for the order I had placed. Giving it some time I decided to stop in with a friend and try it one more time, bad idea. Both orders of biscuit and gravy were cold, the hash browns were soggy that came with my omelet. I was given attitude about having them redone even when I asked for Crispy hash browns at first. I will never be stopping in here again as I would rather eat roadkill or drive the extra 40-60 miles to get something that is worth what I am paying for. Flies flies flies! I dont leave reviews but felt this one was necessary, to urge the owners to make changes. The food was good. But this was the most filthy restaurant I have ever been in. And staff was very unwelcoming. We walk in and not sure if we have to wait to be seated. We stand there for 4-5 minutes with staff walking right past us, saying nothing, looking at us. I finally ask, do we seat ourselves and was told yes. So we go to the back booth. Only to find that directly behind my head there are 2 fly strips, COVERED, and a thick piece of tape across the window COVERED. Im talking at least 200 flies. Then the alive ones are flying over us, landing on our faces, swatting them away for 5+ minutes as we are looked at several times by the staff with nobody bringing menus, greeting us, NOTHING. I get up and ask for menus, then get an apology from I believe the manager. I hear her tell her staff we've been waiting. We eventually order food, uneasy because of the cleanliness but we just traveled 6 hours and were exhausted and starving. As we are waiting we notice the window sill right next to my sons face is COVERED in dead flies, in cobwebs. Were talking 30-40 flies here. We did hear one other patron leave after ordering his food and say it was due to the flies. Then hearing the staff joke about it like its just hilarious. Each of them picking something off the plate that they wanted to eat.I wish we would have left. Instead we got our food, ate a little, quickly got a box so we could eat it in the car without flies. However, as we walked past the food window on the way out, I saw there were fly strips hanging all over in the kitchen! We immediately threw our boxes in the garbage. Please do something about the flies! At least clean up all the dead ones!!! read more

The food was pretty good, but the waitresses were extremely rude to us. My family walked in and got a blank stare like in the movies.... They acted like asking for a side of toasts was a major inconvenience to them, even when they were slow. Stopped in on a late weekday night after a family members recommendation. Place was empty but staff was excellent. Good old diner experience. Ordered the club sandwich and was not disappointed. Nice thick slices of Turkey, ham and bacon. With a big pile of fries to round out the meal. Will make this a stop more often. read more

Two of us had bacon cheese burgers. The quality of the bacon was very good and cooked not too crispy or too limp. Fresh romaine lettuce was used along with 2 slices of ripe tomato. Over all the burger was excellent. The home style fries complemented the dish. Our other guest enjoyed a french dip sandwich. Tables and floors could use some de-greasing and repair. Bathroom also needs a little TLC . Service and prices were good. Great parking for RVs. read more

Looks like and has a menu like a run down truck stop diner. Food was pretty dismal also. I wouldn't have stopped here if there were any better options besides Fast Food. I could that the ingredients in my dinner were not even close to homemade or made in house, it all tasted as if it was either made from packages, cans or premade frozen. After visiting a restaurant with so many good reviews, I often wonder where the heck the reviewers are dining normally to think this is considered good food. Or perhaps the reviewers don't get out much, and this is their idea of a grand meal. So, here's the run down. Cheeseburger. No frills. Franz sesame bun. Pre made frozen patty over cooked and dry. 1 slice American cheese. Lettuce. Tom onion pickle mayo relish. After eating it, I wish I would of gone to McDonald's. Seriously. It was nothing special. Same with the fries. They were fries. Husband ordered bacon Cheeseburger. Deemed it mediocre at best. I was hoping for a hidden gem of a diner based off reviews of others. Not so much. Waste of time. Btw, the bathrooms are not that clean, and the hallway smells like a public urinal. But there is a coin op condom machine in the men's, in case you get lucky at the diner. Who are these reviewers that rated this place so high? . I think we need some kind of Yelp test to make sure they actually know what good food tastes like. read more

Small town America lives here. Jakes is a throwback cafe with terrific chunky cream of tomato soup with celery. It was yummy if a bit odd seeming at first. Homemade not Cambells from a can. And the burger dinner special was a beef patty with thin sliced ham and bacon and a tomato slice with real leaf lettuce. For $9. It hit the spot. At an i-90 exit. Just west of the Starbucks exit. Open 24 hours the sign says. Texaco gas station adjacent. Enjoy a glimpse of rural America. read more

A friend of mine and I stopped here on our way back up to Canada on a trip across the USA in June of last year. For the entire trip I wanted to stop at one of those diners that looks like one you'd see in a movie from the 90's. This was it. Boy was I happy. Had a great experience here today - Again. This is the second time I've stopped into Jake's; I've waited to review this place to see if it's consistent before I give my final opinion. It is! This is a great pit stop for me between Boise and Spokane. Good food, great friendly service from two fun-loving ladies, and HUGE portions! The thing I like best is that breakfast is served all day, and if you sit at the counter, try as you might you can't sip your coffee down to even half a cup. Those waitresses are on top of it! The prices do seem a tad higher comparatively as others have noted, but then again, it's not like they're short-changing you on the food. Lots of locals and truckers inside - always a good sign. I'll be coming back for sure the next time I'm headed through Ritzville. read more

My wife Lisa and I have been traveling back and fourth from Yakima to Spokane for the last three years to go to her medical appointments. We chose this place because the food, service and the waitresses were very polite. But this time we were really disappointed, not in the food but in the service. We came in from Spokane head back to Yakima to eat and the waitress that took our order was very rude. We asked what the special was and she said it was on the board and then we asked her to tell us and she acted annoyed. My wife ordered the hot turkey sandwich with a turkey soup on the side and I ordered the chicken fried steak and the same soup. The Waitress brought our soup to us and my wife asked for more crackers, the waitress did not acknowledge us but turned around then waited on other people and then ten minutes later she brought the crackers to us. When our dinner was brought to us she just slammed it on the table in front of us, did not wait for us to clear a spot but just slammed the plates down and walked away. When the waitress brought our ticket to us she did not hand it to us or set it on the edge of the table but just through the tick in my wife's unfinished plate. My wife and I have never been treated like that in all the times that we have been there to eat. I went to the cash register to pay but to also to try and get an explanation as to why she was so rude. She refused to answer my question and proceeded to say your still paying for your dinner. Like she was under the assumption we were looking for a free meal , My wife said to me that she felt like we were discriminated against because she has darker skin . Our waitress was working on the evening of Sunday September 4.2016 at 7:30P.M. and would not give us here name. In my opinion the person does not reflect the kind of outstanding service that I have received in the past. Same on her for putting a black eye on this restaurant. We stopped here on our way back from Spokane and were very pleased with our experience. Everything was good, hot and fresh. We split a club sandwich and onion rings which we both enjoyed. I had a bowl of their Turkey Noodle Soup which was perfect - large noodles, big chunks of vegetables and hot. Place is old but extremely clean including the bathroom. Our waitress was very busy but always pleasant, helpful and apologetic for us having to wait for even a few minutes. I take a lot of long road trips on my motorcycle and I will make this one of my regular stops. read more

Classic diner food. Huge portions at reasonable prices. Breakfast served anytime! I had the open-face roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and everything smothered in beef gravy. Friendly service. Don't let the "homemade pie" sign fool you though. I had the sour cream lemon pie, which was tasty enough, but I found the exact same pie in the freezer case (Sara Lee) when I stopped for groceries at the nearby market. Horrible! In our group of 6, every single one of us did not enjoy. of the burgers were ordered PLAIN. both came with toppings we had to pick off. Burgers were not good. As we ordered the waitress told us not to order milkshakes humorously. Taking it as a joke like she hopefully implied, half of us ordered milkshakes. When she returned, we were told milkshakes may or may not be brought to us because she didn't want to make them. It took the waitress good talking to to get 3 milkshakes. The waitress fought back. Well, after reading the other reviews on here I feel like I should give them another shot but I just don't think I hate myself enough. I normally stick to what I know and stay safe which for me is an omelet or pancakes. I saw the hot pulled pork sandwich that was smothered in gravy and it sounded good so I went with that. They were out of pork... HELL! I should have taken that as my sign but I forged ahead and went with the beef. Why, oh why, did I do that to myself!? The waitress, who was nice enough but about to break her neck to get back to another table so she could flirt with the guy sitting at it, brings this plate out to me and I thought, "Uh oh. This isn't going to be good." I cut into the dry, white bread they had heated, pre-sliced roast beef, smothered in orange-brown, canned gravy and took my first bite. I gave my husband a look and he could just tell; there was no way I was eating it. He ordered a chili smothered burger that he said was obviously a frozen patty and the chili was canned also. The worst part about my dish was the gravy though. It was like they took dog food and beef jerky, threw them in a blender, and hit puree - AWFUL!!! The worst part was that after I choked down four bites and called it quits I paid almost $11 for it. My husband and I went to Cracker Barrel for dinner than night and I paid less money for the best plate of chicken and dumplings I ever had. Needless to say I've learned my lesson from venturing too far from the norm in new restaurants. read more
