We enjoyed an early evening meal at Jakob's on Saturday, before going to a Prom. concert. The whole experience was wonderful, starting with the welcoming and gracious phone call to book a table. This is a peaceful and special place, with delicious, traditional Middle Eastern dishes. Choose your freshly-made dishes from the menu- or take a look at the counter, if you need help in selecting. The decor and ambience are characterful, calm and spotlessly clean and the staff are lovely. We really, REALLY liked it, and will both return when possible and recommend highly. A warm and home-like feel. Plus, magazines a plenty for the solo diner's entertainment. But best of all delicious fresh healthy food. If you're looking for some local flavor that's been around for over 20 years, and the strongest most delicious macchiato ever, this is the place to hit up for lunch. In the marketplace-like glass case, you can pick from a variety of main courses from salmon, fish cake, curried chicken, or fried chicken, and add in sides whether straight veg like broccoli and snow peas or heartier ones like glazed pumpkin, sweet potato medallions, creamed cauliflower, or chickpeas and eggplant. Or you can mix and match the sides into a "salad" plate option, in a variety of sizes, choosing between 2-6. Once ordered, you take a seat and they bring out your food to you. Love this place -- all organic stuff! Great, fresh fare meant mostly to take away but so delicious. (Edamame /pea salad is so good and so is the mixed vegetable dish). An email about London today had me reminiscing of one of my most favorite haunts when I studied abroad there way back in the day. This place may seem unassuming (read: like any other deli you could find), but there is something so endearing and special about this quaint spot that I just had to share my fondness for it. It's family-owned and they're more than happy to extend a family tree branch your direction, too. From their paninis to their market fresh salads to their pastries to their full-blown entrees, Jakobs just does everything right. I can still remember sitting in their very Spanish/Moroccan looking dining area (with the perfect light shining through on a spectacular Spring day) and thinking, 'someone pinch me.' And you know it gets the super stamp of approval when every time a parent of someone in our program visited a visit to Jakobs was definitely in the cards... and naturally they fell in love with it immediately, also. Not to mention, it's a blast when dusk hits, especially for a large group. The servers go above and beyond to make you feel like you're attending a party in their living room, complete with live music and dancing. We spent a very memorable Valentine's Day evening there one night and closed the place down. It's just a phenomenal spot that has a permanent place in my heart, and I hope I still have a permanent place on their wall of adoring patrons! read more

This place was a mixed bag from the start. By the end of my visit, it reclaimed some of the magic that I had heard about. As told to me by a friend, this was a must stop visit while I was traveling to London. Upon her suggestion, I stopped by a few days before I had to go home. Staying in Notthing Hill Gate, I was able to cut through Hyde Park and walk to Kensington. Luckily I was able to obtain some open-space WIFI that the Kensington Gardens was able to provide me. So I arrived without any problems. Outside, the restaurant-cafe seems unassuming. Inside? Inside is a whole other story. Another world, in fact. It's not immediately made aware to you when you first walk in. You're greeted by a friendly staff behind the counter, though. Your options are predominately Mediterranean and it did take me a while to figure out what I wanted to settle for. A gripe I had with one particular dish was the hummus. I prefer hummus with little-to-no tahini at all. My actual preference would there be none. However, I've never had hummus with so much tahini that I felt as though I was eating sesame seed paste with a small amount of chick peas. That ain't right. [To be continued. It gets better ... My friend use to live in this area and took us here one day... I was so sad that I had already eaten because the sandwiches looked SOOO DELICIOUS!!! So of course, the next time I was in the area, I just HAD to come back because she raved endlessly about this place. Also, I LOVE places that are super cute, friendly and family owned which equals.. MY KIND OF A PLACE! The next time we had our little Hyde Park getaway, I got a chicken sandwich with all the dressings, even HUMMOUS (so good!), and they toast it for you.. and the sandwich is actually large enough for 2 meals! (I ate it in one.. but you know..) And for only about 6pounds (sorry, I'm on an American comp so I can't get the GBP sign quickly)... such a STEAL! They also have a lot of Mediterranean dishes that you can take away...It'd be perfect or a quick healthy meal you don't wanna cook. Special experience - excellent dinner in a wonderful setting. Happened upon here on a Greek night, with excellent live music. They fit us in comfortably to the front room of a small, crowded restaurant. Food and service are simply exceptional. Plenty of fresh vegetarian options abound - I had a pumpkin stuffed with goat cheese that was delightful. The meze style dishes - hummus, tsatsiki and such - were absolutely exceptional. This family owned resataurant is a real gem. You feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. The food is phenomenal and so absolutely fresh. I could eat it every day. I had a whole sea bass which was light and crispy. An awesome bean and pea salad and various other sides. All extremely fresh and just the right spice.
