Taco Bell is more authentic! Wanted this to be good as I'm moving to California soon, unfortunately it was terrible. I'm new to the midwest, from California (state). Saw good reviews on yelp, and when I pulled up I was hopeful, there were a lot of cars in the lot and it was pretty full for an off time of day. I ordered safe, cheese enchilada and tamale. I love me a good tamale! So the good.. the rice and beans were really good, and the ground beef they sprinkled on top of the tamale was good also. The sauce on the enchilada and tamale was a little tangier than ketchup, and had all the appeal of it. The cheese in the enchilada was like sweet custardlike plastic. I couldn't find the meat in the tamale, but the masa was like jello. JELLO! NO one wants that as a tamale. NO seasonings, no heat at all. I felt like I was eating at an old folks home. I've kind of decided after eating at three Mexican places in Missouri... YALL don't know what Mexican food tastes like! Thank goodness I know a few basic dishes, I would go into withdrawal out here! read more

We have lived here for just a year. We are from the Chicago area and are used to good authentic Mexican food. Latino culture is huge where we lived. So happy to have found Jalisco. Service is fast, friendly, and just plain good! Tortillas are fresh. This place is busy every night of the week. Coming through Mid Missouri? Stop in California and have some good authentic Mexican food and great service. I suggest the Corona-rita to drink and the steak Grande quesadilla or the el pastor tacos!! Enjoy!! read more

Okay, first of all, I am Latina and a San Diego native. There is NO way you could ever compare this food to SoCal Mexican food, but here in Missouri, it's as legit as you can get. I grew up in the restaurant business, so I find myself critiquing what my father used to bug us about...mainly restaurant organization and customer service. There were two young men serving the tables when we dropped by last week and you could tell that this was clearly their first jobs. They couldn't answer the simplest questions about the food, but they tried hard. My husband had a 'super burrito' which as always for non-Mexicans, is filled with beans, rice and cabbage. FYI, Mexicans don't like anything in their burritos but meat, salsa and guacamole. Strangely enough and right in the middle of summer, the guacamole was not included in the burrito. It wasn't carne asada meat, it was some kind of stewed beef, chopped very small. It was really tasty but would've been even better with a bit of guacamole. I ordered a chile rellano and a couple of 'street tacos' made with pork, cooked 'al pastor' style. The meat is super tasty and was covered in the legit cilantro and onion combo, but darn these tortillas in Missouri, they are so small. The chili rellano was disappointing...it was $6 for one and it was filled with the infamous "Provel" cheese that is so popular in these parts. The menu is very limited and to be honest, expensive for what they give you and where they are located, but it is what it is. It was nice to hear the ladies speaking and laughing in Spanish and the place was clean. The menu is also a mix or Mexican and El Salvadorean food (the pupusas). We'll give it another chance and hopefully, things will be better. read more

I stayed in California, Missouri for one night while traveling (it's a small farming town off US 50). I asked the motel keeper for a recommendation and she picked this place and a Chinese restaurant both down the block. I went to JalisCo (how they spell it and was pleasantly surprised. The place was jammed at 7 pm with locals and the food is dead authentic - the only concession to local taste is that it is somewhat milder than I prefer. I ordered Tacos de Carne Asada (marinated grilled steak tacos) which were served rapidly on flour tortillas that I suspect were made in house - no cardboard tortillas here. The steak was tender and delicious and was served with the correct cilantro-tomato-onion mixture on the side. They have imported and local beer, and mixed drinks. The place is clean, well lighted and comfortable. Service is prompt and courteous. Worth a detour to visit - don't go to Burger Clown!! read more

Well I have tried almost every resteraunt in town. This particular resterant was a surprise. The food was good pure and simple.it just didnt get its 5th star cause it forgot to put avacado on my dish. Other than that I cant knock it. The food was tastey and filling read more

The food is excellent! Sautéed chicken and vegetables were done perfectly! My husband is from Las Vegas, and even he said this is some of the best Mexican food ever. The prices were extremely reasonable, and the portions were ample. People were nice the people were nice, and the service was great. I normally don't get reviews, but in this case I couldn't not review. read more

It is difficult for me to find really good true Mexican food when I leave San Diego, but I have to say this place was amazing! And the staff is sooo nice and super attentive! The margaritas are really good too! You wouldn't expect this small town in MO to have such a great restaurant, in fact you might just drive past it BUT do yourself a favor and stop! Excellent, fresh Mexican. Chicken dishes are always moist. Chips and salsa are so yummy. Drinks are large and ice cold. I suggest the mango margarita! The owner, Mario, works his tail off as do all the staff. To go is easy, too! read more

I moved out of town several years ago but every time I come home to visit now I have to stop here. Everything I've tried is really tasty. The service is very good too. Take some time to talk to your server and they just might hook you up. I got some lime sautéed jalapeños last time I was there. read more
