I ordered the lunch chimichanga with chicken and really enjoyed the flavors and the amount of chicken as well as fresh bell peppers inside the tortilla. I was surprised that it was not fried like I've seen so many times, but in a nice soft tortilla with a cheese sauce on top. I ordered the rice and beans as a side and for some reason, they weren't my favorite, but hubby liked them! He ordered the lunch beef burrito and commented on how fresh it was. Great service and great food! I walked in and the environment was impeccable! I was immediately greeted and directed to a place to sit and dine. I ordered the steak quesadilla with a side of beans and rice ! Everything came out perfect. The quesadilla was so juicy and flavorful and perfectly complemented with the beans and rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the portions are very large !!! Highlights: My server was attentive and consistently checked in to ensure I was taken care of. I've read the reviews for this place and wanted to go for awhile so on a whim we decided to give it a try for lunch recently. When we walked inside I noticed it wasn't packed, which made it easy to get a table, but I also noticed that a lot of the other people dining in there that day were of Hispanic descent, which I don't see too often at other Mexican restaurants around town, so I took that as a good sign. I usually like to try something outside of my "comfort zone" at every new restaurant I go to, went with the "Los Comales Seafood Parrilla", and when I tell you I've never eaten every single bite of my food like I devoured that plate, I mean it! My fiancée was full (large portions) and just sitting there waiting for me to finally eat that last bite. Not that she had to because they also have a Mexican store inside and so many authentic Mexican ingredients as well as candies, spices, sauces, even pottery cups like the one that a few of their crafty cocktails were served in, which I haven't even got to those yet! My meal came with 1 Crab cluster, 6 green muscles, 6 scallops, 8 shrimp (with or without heads), rice and salad and tortillas. Their special sauce and combination of spices were *chefs kiss* perfect!! In fact, I'm writing this review because I came here to order this meal again today, it is by far our new favorite Mexican restaurant in town, and favorite dish as well! For now at least, I'll be trying many more soon! My fiancée ordered the chicken chimichanga and said it was the best one she's ever had, which is saying a lot because she sticks to the same couple menu items at every restaurant so she's tried many in her day! It was pretty large, she wound up taking half of it home with us. It was served with the traditional rice and beans, which I had never been served rice that color, but it was great as well! I ordered a Michelada Camaron as a drink and it came with this awesome spicy licorice type straw with all the fixings; it was a meal in itself! I had to have help with the rest of it because at 32 oz of snack filled Bloody Mary beer and a fisherman's net quickly dunked into the ocean all sprawled across my plate, I was beyond stuffed!! I just couldn't stop eating because I was enjoying every single bite so much! I won't even waste time explaining how great their salsa is, if you've made it this far, you're going to find out very soon for yourself just how yummy it all was, so I'll post some pictures and wrap this up, we're on our way back there for lunch again today! A diamond in the rough. Its hidden behind a coffee shop. The plate sizes are large and the food was sooo delicious! The shrimp were huge! Salsa is spicy so beware. The guacamole is heavenly. Wow! Many of the previous reviews let us know how tasty the food is at Los Comales and that the portions were very generous. We had no idea what an understatement that was. We will be back as often as we come through on 70. Our photos don't do Justice. We are hardy eaters and the photo in the take home box is what my companion has to look forward to for a second meal. I have visited this restaurant three times in the last year, and unfortunately it has gotten much worse over the course of the three. My first visit was fantastic. So much so that I have eaten there every time I've been in Columbia, and I'm one that likes to try different places. The service was great, the portions were large, the food was good, and the margarita was strong. I eat lots of Mexican food throughout the Midwest, and this is what would keep me coming back. The second visit wasn't as good, as the burrito they brought me was barely warm. I assume it was made earlier in the day and reheated, but that was a big disappointment. I went back a few days ago, and wished I hadn't. The waitress seated me, and then completely forgot about me. Others brought out my chips and margarita, although they took some time as well, but my waitress was nowhere to be found. When she returned, she was talking with the other staff, and had forgotten I was there. It took a long time to get her attention so that I could order. I would have left if the margarita wasn't already there. The food took quite some time to come out. When it did, it was bad all around. First of all they had put guacamole throughout the inside of the burrito. It wasn't supposed to have guac at all, and you never put it inside of something even if it is supposed to come with the meal. This made what would have been a bad burrito terrible. The strips of steak that were inside weren't seasoned at all, and were like beef jerky. The peppers and onions were barely heated, let along sauteed. I have always gotten the large margarita, which comes in a giant mug. Each time I was glad I was a few blocks from the hotel because they had the proper amount of alcohol in them for a very large drink. This time, I could have been drinking water the entire time, and not felt any different than when I finished the margarita. It's a shame that they seem to have lost their way. I will try some other places on my next visit to Columbia. read more

Walk in to such a friendly restaurant. As you come in, you seat yourself and a staff member will bring you chips and salsa when they take your drink order. Ordered: Chips & Salsa (complimentary) Small Queso Horchata Chile relleno Tacos -Tinga -chorizo -Al pastor -Asada -Carnitas The horchata was simple and refreshing. It tasted like the horchata from the powder mix which is still good but I have high expectations for horchata at a restaurant. Queso: It was cheesy and good! It's creamy and has a nice kick. I ended up asking for extra chips to get every last drop of this! Chile relleno: Normally the chile relleno is topped with their queso sauce. I prefer a dry chile relleno (Im from northern Mexico and that's how I've eaten it growing up). The batter was a bit thick but I still enjoyed it. The inside was cheesy and the chile was perfectly roasted before it was fried. You can tell a lot about a Mexican place by how they make their simplest thing on the menu, tacos! Tacos: The tacos are the mini street taco size but they don't skimp on the meat. All tacos come with a side of salsas, onion, cilantro and radishes. I think the Tinga taco was a little dry so that was my least favorite. I loved the chorizo and carnitas tacos! The chorizo was meaty it looked more like longaniza (which is a type of chorizo). The carnitas were flavorful and crispy. I love that they took the extra time to crisp them up. That's how they should be. The Al pastor didn't have pineapple (which is typical) but it was still really good. Don't forget to stop at their store which is attached to the restaurant! We weren't that surprised at how good the food was at this hidden gem. I've always found these off the beaten path places are always better than the ones with all the fancy locations. The portions were very large, so we had lots of leftovers to take home. The salsa was fantastic and paired with fresh homemade corn chips. We went on a Saturday evening, and they became very busy, but yet wait staff was very attentive to our table. They have a full bar and made great Micheladas as you can tell by my empty glass. A hidden gem. The ingredients they use are, quite simply, fantastic. The meat and vegetables they use are of absurdly good quality, too. Finally, the salsa they use for dipping is one of the best I've ever had (and I've been to all of the southwestern states and Texas). Wife and I were visiting Columbia for a few days and I was really craving a burrito so I sought out this spot based on reviews. Made an order for pick up along with a side of Guacamole that came with salsa and chips. Order as prepared quickly, staff was friendly and welcoming, the burrito was huge, guacamole/salsa were excellent and chips were home made and abundant. The service was excellent and the food is superb. My biggest concern for the business is that I got too much food for the money. I think the amount of food in the steak fajitas are beyond the capacity of the human stomach. With the complimentary chips and salsa, I think it would fill two or even three people. It was 3" in. Height and spilling over the sides of the cast iron skillet. There is no way for $14.99 I could make this on my own at home (lots of steak andonions, peppers, Spanish rice, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, pico, lettuce, etc.). I had the Comales Special fajitas which was a humongous portion. 2 people could easily make it a meal. Comes with rice and beans. Chips and salsa were very good. The fajitas had shrimp, chicken, steak, and chorizo. Either the cook had a heavy hand with the cooking oil or the chorizo made them greasy. It was edible but after a while it all started to taste the same which I again think we because of the chorizo. It's located in a grocery store but the service was great and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I would go back, but might leave off the chorizo to see if that makes a difference. read more

Had chimichangas (one steak one chicken). Portions were HUGE. Really too much food. Beans were superb and rice was good. Chimi's were excellent, great taste, nice mix of meat and veggie (peppers and onion), with flavorful shell. But the salsa to start really stood out. A smidge spicy but, wow, what flavor.
