I'm going to amend my review and provide an update. In truth, the bed we ordered is great quality and beautiful. We really couldn't find any flaws. The lack of communication, from the first time we reported the broken slat supports until they shipped was still a problem. Not once was I ever given any idea when the replacements might ship. I didn't know if it would be 2 weeks or 2 months like the original bed. After about 10 days, and 3 attempts to get an answer, the tracking number was sent that it shipped and it arrived quickly. The amount of time that everything takes is massively frustrating though. It was almost 3 months from the time we ordered until we could use the bed and only about 6 weeks of that was actually spent making the bed before it was finished. read more

We bought a Josephine Round dining room table and over all it's nice. However the Rustic Windsor chairs are built very poorly and now two have broken at the cross supports at the base of the chair. No one in the family of two weighing more than 185 lbs. I can't recommend purchasing their products. After the first chair failed in the same area a second has as well. I've reached out for warranty on this product in the past, but they would not send me a new chair. Now I need to have a second chair fixed by a local carpenter. read more

I should've looked at reviews OUTSIDE of the actual website. I have spent about $8,000 thousand dollars on furniture that is MIA at this point. I waited about 7 weeks from order date to receive an email that the furniture was "ready for pickup" and would be delivered in "7 to 10 business days". Today marks one WHOLE MONTH from that email and still NOTHING. I received a call day before yesterday that the furniture would be delivered yesterday between 2p-6p and NO ONE SHOWED OR CALLED. This is unacceptable!!!!!! We were excited to purchase "Made in America" pieces and support American shops BUT THIS IS NOT OK. The delivery company gives the run around. Most tables today are made of veneer wood, rubber, or composite materials. I was interested in J&J because it's made in the USA and uses real wood. I ordered a farm table with four chairs but cancelled it right away after reading complaints that said items arrived damaged, the quality was bad, the stain did not match, and J&J will not rectify any errors. I cancelled it immediately. Despite my desire to have faith in this company's integrity, I simply cannot take the chance. What's more your claim about free damage is an utter joke, clearly this has never been about free damage but even if it was table came fully crated in plywood. In talking with the freight company about the disservice you're trying to push upon them, and me for that matter they advised that they do not wait for someone to get tools in and create the product for inspection and your insinuation otherwise is comical and clearly part of your eye are disgusting in reprehensible business practices. Just because it's reclaimed doesn't mean it's good enough to be part of a table top. Finger prints in the stain. Tons of them. Holes that don't align up. No holes at all. No dowel pins. 2.5in #8 deck screws to hold it together. Smh. Paid for cracks to be filled but a large one that wasn't. Now I have to hire someone to clean this garbage up. Don't buy! read more

I ordered the Arthur tin Maplewood and a harvest wheat finish. The picture below is what I received as you can see. They are two different stains. James and James is refusing to fix this issue and claims that this is a variation of what I ordered. So you can order a black stain and possibly get a brown stain or white stain or orange stain and they will claim it is simply a variation. The base is not secured to the table top. I received the base and table top separately in the same delivery, but they were not secured to one another so right now the table wobbles I can simply remove the table top from the base. I can spin the table top. Again they are not secured to one another . James and James is refusing to give me instructions on how to properly secure it. If I could give a zero I would have! I would not purchase anything from James and James because they would not stand by their product for me! The first issue we were told the table and chairs would be in in 6 weeks and it actually came in 13 weeks. At the beginning the customer service was amazing very friendly but when we received the set was when the customer service changed. The stain was not correct and NOTHING like the pictures on their website. When I complained about this they said that I got what I paid for and stain takes differently to different pieces of wood, which I completely understand. However, it had a gray stain on it and they were insistent that it was not gray, that it was exactly what I ordered. IT WAS NOT! I know the difference and can tell if something is gray or not. They are completely unwilling to take any responsibility for anything! After the delivery people opened the box there were several marks on the table that they blamed on the delivery people. Doesn't James and James pack the item up before the delivery company picks it up? There were red tape marks on the table from the tape they told me to give it a good cleaning with a little "elbow grease" really...I need to scrub a brand new table?????Although they maintained their fake nice customer service they were never going to help me, again, they refused to take responsibility! The table wobbles and when I told them they told me to tighten the legs and when we turned the table over we notice the leg was completely broken. When I sent them pictures they agreed to replace the leg but it would take 2-4 weeks. I called this morning to get a status (because we are unable to use the table for fear it will fall on someone) l had to leave a message with still no response. In all fairness the 4 weeks is this Friday July 30th so they have 3 days left for the 4 week timeline which I don't have high hopes for. Also, the chairs look like something you can get at any low budget store they were cheap and crack and squeak when you sit on them and the stain is blotching and just bad quality. I'm writing this review as a former employee of James + James and very nervous to do so, but I think the company has wronged so many of its customers and employees that I feel it is necessary. James + James will take your money up front, but they lie to you about how long your furniture will take to be built. Your furniture won't even begin production until around the 12 week mark, which is the turnaround time they display on their website. Your furniture will arrive months later than you were lead to believe, and it will likely be damaged, incorrect, or not the quality you paid for. The sales team is trained to fight with every single customer if there is anything wrong with their order. It's not until a chargeback is filed that J+J will attempt to make things right. If you are lucky enough to get a rebuild order put in, be prepared to wait another 2-3 months for its completion, as rebuilds aren't made first priority. James + James doesn't care about people. They care about money. Those in sales who have left the company, which has been a lot of people lately, have done so for a number of reasons. Constantly being told to go against our morals and not help our customers, the job we thought we signed up for, is stressful. We would get yelled at all day, every day by our customers, and they have every right to be angry. The sales team doesn't get a lunch, only "sprite breaks" which allow for 1-2 minutes out of your day to get up and get a soft drink, or run to your car to scream before returning to your desk. If you have any complaints or concerns, keep them to yourself or you will be fired for expressing them to HR. This is a fact. Please don't spend your money with this company. You will get screwed over. I'm so sorry to any former customers reading this review who I have personally worked with and couldn't help. It killed me inside to not be allowed to do the right thing. Super disappointed with our purchase. We waited about nine weeks to receive our dining table and bench. When it arrived, the tabletop had a big scratch, which is of course not their fault. But they are only willing to repair and not replace it unless they determine it needs replacing, which I'm sure they won't, and if I am unhappy with the repairs, my only option is to forfeit 15% of the substantial purchase price and reject the table. For the price of this furniture, I expected better service, and now it looks like I'm going to be stuck with an over-priced repaired table. As to quality of the undamaged pieces, the bench came wobbly, which I'm hoping they will be able to fix. The table is really pretty from afar, but up close the quality isn't what I was hoping. As an example, the pedestal is several pieces of wood glued together (I figured it would be a solid piece, but that's probably on me), but the joints aren't totally smoothed out so it's pretty obvious. read more

We ordered a table and did not pay extra for the white glove service, but should have. It took about 4 weeks longer than the original estimate, which was not a big deal. When it was delivered, the base was cracked in several places. Because I signed for the delivery, they said there was nothing they could do. They should have said there was nothing they will do, as other companies are able to provide solutions. When our table was delivered, the top was in a crate with about 12 screws holding the crate together. The base of the table had at least 8 screws holding in packaging. So in order to fully inspect it for damage prior to signing, I would have had to make the delivery men stay for about 20 - 30 minutes while I unscrewed and unpacked the table. I guess the people at James and James have never had a delivery to their home, but this is not reasonable. I can't believe you need a customer to suggest this, but perhaps you should automatically add a few hundred dollars to the already pricey furniture to cover insurance for delivery/shipping problems? From reading other reviews on here, it is a common occurrence and probably the reason for the MANY poor yelp ratings. read more

I wish I could leave a zero star review. This company has a really nice website, and the appearance of a "homegrown American" company. They are not that. I would not recommend them at all. For starters, note the language on their website. They say their furniture is "assembled in America". Not made in America. This is made evident by the products you receive. We ordered chairs from them and they came with instructions that say "printed in Vietnam". (why would you bother printing instructions in another country if your product was also not from there?). James + James is clearly trying to appeal to the idea of supporting American companies and production, but that is a farce. Second, we ordered a table and bench from them. One of the table legs (4 inches wide) has a split knot halfway through it - that is very sharp and splintered. When I brought this to their attention, the response from James + James is this is a "feature". While it may have been a natural feature of the wood, why this particular piece was chosen for the leg is unclear (as it presents a structural risk and also hazard for anyone who touches this area). The bench had a similar gap in the end that was splintered and sharp (and is in a place where people's hands can easily get caught. The response I received from James + James on these issues was that they could give me advice for patching these areas myself if I didn't like them. Had I not paid over $5,000 for the table and bench, I may have accepted that as an answer - but this is not the quality of product I would expect for paying that much money. I'm not sure why anyone would think this is an acceptable response from a company supplying a brand new product. It's also even more unclear why they left these "features" in the wood untouched, because the top of the table has several knots that they bothered to fill in with resin (albeit a cloudy, yellowed resin that looks very cheap for the price point). Finally, not a single table leg is plumb on our table - and it is noticeable from looking at it. James + James did offer to have the delivery company come out and fix this, but they installed them incorrectly the first time, so I'm not quite sure how that would help. The pockets that hold the table legs also have major gaps between the leg and the pocket, so it takes multiple shims to hold the table leg in place so it stays plumb. I cannot recommend this company in the slightest. They are awful to work with and their products are a bait and switch from what they show on their website. They hide behind an internet facade, and do not care about the products that end up in your home. read more

False advertising and over priced for what you get. Fit and finish is rather poor. This company continues to lie by saying handmade in Arkansas? Yet our bed and dressers showed up clearly marked as made in Vietnam. The stain on the dressers doesn't match and the finish on the inside of the drawers leaves much to be desired. I'm fact I'll probably give them all a light sanding so that it stops grabbing my cloths. The drawers themselves are made from plywood and cheap grade plywood at that as they came having delamination spots. Something you find in very low quality plywood from the big box hardware stores. Our bedframe attaches to itself and the headboard via cheap slotted metal brackets. Which is seriously disappointing for something in this price range. No form of joinery or even bolts. The slats provided were simple rough cut 2x4s. No sanding, no pre drilled pilot holes, nothing. Our queen mattress has a hard time hiding the obvious unstained pine at the corners. It's also seriously noisy! After waiting almost a year for our bed and dressers we are still waiting for the end tables. An item that they no longer even list on their website. Buyers beware of this heavily advertised and sponsored business claiming to be top quality furniture. read more

I can handle my table being two weeks late, and yes, I get it's an approximate date, the problem is, I didn't get what I ordered and paid for. As soon as they unwrapped the legs, I could tell they were a different color. More gray than Harvest Wheat. They assembled the table and one leg is even shorter than the others, which made the table rock. After paying 3300 for the table , I was very disappointed. I understand a "slight variation" in color, like the website says, but all 4 legs are gray not matching the table top which is Harvest Wheat color. Their solution: put a pad under the leg that's short and have a professional redo the legs!!! I already thought I had a professional make the table! It's not like this table is from Walmart!. There was no, " How about we do this for you?" No compromising solution whatsoever! I would have liked 4 new legs sent to me in Harvest Wheat and a packing slip to send the gray legs back....which may even solve the rocking table situation. That wasn't happening.... They also said it clearly states this on their website??? I still can't find it and if that's the case why isn't it up front and center? Perhaps because people might cancel their order as they might not be able to wait 3 months to eat? I find it hard to imagine that my table takes 12 weeks to finish once it enters production. Ordered the Tresse style dinning table with matching bench. The tops are finished well but the legs are rough and don't match the color nor lacquer of the tops. The legs and crossbars have exposed knots and cracks that did not get filled with clear resin. I now need to address these problem areas otherwise these areas will eventually crumble out and or split entirely. Also worth mentioning, as James+James will not, they use oil based polyurethane which absolutely stinks. You'll need to air the table out for a week prior to bringing inside. Thank goodness I have a large enough garage to do so. Given these issues and lack of overall quality I can not recommend. read more

James and James will gladly ship you a screwed-together sealed 500+lb wooden crate, to be dropped at the end of your driveway, labeled "fragile", regardless of the terrain around you, and then tell you that all liability on their end is off unless you fully inspect the furniture before the courier leaves. That, by the way, involves getting out a full set of power tools and doing the necessary teardown on their crate (~20 screws on each edge) in the middle of the street, in the middle of the workday, BEFORE you're allowed to say "sure, I'll keep it." They make sure not to tell you what to do if there *is* damage, because their company ethic is "screw the customer, just get the money and dodge responsibility." I asked to reschedule delivery. for tomorrow, as it's raining today and I have a bad cold, and at least having it delivered when it's *not* raining would help. They gladly said yes. They did not reschedule it. This sort of lie is par for the course for them. Here's the 6-foot-tall, 12-foot-long, 500+lb wooden crate they screwed together and delivered today, along with the "nastygram" about how if you don't unpack it all before saying "yes" to the courier, then James and James takes no responsibility for anything you discover after you get out your power tools and spend a few hours cracking it open: https://imgur.com/a/krUoCog The only reason it's in my garage and not at the bottom of the hill in the middle of the street is because the courier service's delivery driver *explicitly chose* to ignore James and James's "leave it at the end of the driveway because they didn't pay $X00 extra for installation" instructions, out of human compassion. Perhaps they could look up "integrity" as well. See, their warranty is a lie, since they go out of their way to tell you AFTER PURCHASE that they hold no responsibility unless you complete an impossible task. I won't be too surprised if I open this thing up to find shoddy workmanship, or even not-what-I-paid-several-thousand-dollars to purchase. That's how little faith I have in this embarrassment of a "carpentry shop". There is exactly *one* kind of fine craftsmanship at work here: it takes a lot of work to refine this sort of slippery, unethical, soulless corporatism while fooling people into thinking you're a small, customer-focused business. Hopefully they don't threaten to sue me for leaving a bad review, like they've apparently done with another person who left them a bad review here on Yelp. Extremely disappointed with J&J. Total disaster from every angle. We ordered a bed over 4 months out and we informed of white glove service. The driver called the day we finally were going to get our bed to tell us 'the key are stolen' from his truck and he would be 2 days later. Then when they put the bed together they had no idea what they were doing. The bed was very loose-headboard was creaking and very wobbly. Even after they left my husband tried to fix it and the design of the bed was horrible. We called J&J and they refused to send someone else out to fix it plus they stated this was a 'known' issue with the bed and they would send us new brackets. The brackets came, they did not align with the bed. My husband had to do the drilling into the bed board and then get new slates as now they did not fit. This was unacceptable. They only wanted to give us $100 off for our trouble. They did not offer any assistance or help and totally did not care. read more

We were looking for quality solid wood furniture that would become an heirloom piece for our family and stumbled across James and James from a Facebook ad. We needed a very specific size breakfast room table and coffee table and I appreciated that not only did they have amazing designs to choose from but we could also customize every detail. After looking through all of the designs on their website I fell in love with the Country French turned table. I had several conversations with Christina via phone and text (so convenient!) and was able to make the right decision for our family. James and James customer service is incredible. A few weeks later, I was on the site again and found the Abigail turned leg coffee table. I called Christina and she was able to add it to our order to combine shipping costs. We were given a shipping date range when they were headed to our area. Then received another notification proposing the date and time two weeks before. We received another call from Jerry and Jared that they would be here in 30 minutes. Jerry and Jared did a FANTASTIC job! They took great care in carefully unpacking and assembling the furniture. They gave us care instructions, touched up a tiny area where the paint cracked a bit in transit and even attached felt furniture pads to all the legs. It's the attention to detail that really makes James and James stand apart from most furniture shops these days. And I really appreciate the family tradition of signing underneath the dining table that Jerry shared with us. It's a tradition, legacy that we will begin for generations to come with our family. Yes-there are natural grooves and wooden knots that have been smoothed out-and this is what establishes the table as a true solid wood piece of art!!! I ordered 2 matching chairs from them that arrived damaged with a sloppy stain job, missing foot, two completely different foams in the seat with one firm and one so soft you can feel the frame when you sit on it and the chair that has only been used a few times wobbles. I notified the company right away and they refuse to do anything about it. In fact, I was told the wobble is due to normal wear and tear. This review is intended to forewarn potential buyers with my experience with James and James. We ordered a console table in December 2021 and have not received the table as of today. The company attempted to send us 2 tables and they arrived either defective or damaged. The first table was defective as the table legs could not attach to the table. The bolt holes in the table legs did not align with those in the bottom of the table. The the bolt holes were not close to aligning. The measurements were off nearly 1/2". The table was clearly not test assembled or quality checked before being shipped. The first table was also not built as advertised. The product page description clearly stated the table was built to be anchored to the floor and the photos depicted a table with holes at the base of each table leg. The table we received did not have the required holes. They denied this and immediately updated the product page photos and description on the website. After they refused for weeks, they attempted to rebuild and send us a new table without any compensation or expediting the process. We waited months for the second table to arrive and it was heavily damaged. The table was cracked and unusable. We later found out their delivery team removed the table from the shipping crate and loaded it in a personal truck to transport it from the local distribution center to our address. James and James confirmed it was not suppose to be removed from the crate. Overall the company has poor customer service, lacks quality control, and cannot ship/deliver their products reliably. This is not a reputable company that will take responsibility and correct issues they admit were caused by their team. read more

BEWARE!! After months of waiting for the table I ordered, I was sent a table made to the wrong height. I then had to wait another 8 weeks to get the correct legs. Basically got an oops our mistake but tough luck from the company. Unfortunately prior to this inconvenience I had already ordered a buffet in the same stain color as the table. Ha! Same color...what a joke! When the buffet arrived it looks nothing like the stain color on the sample or on the table I purchased from them three months earlier. I now have mismatched furniture but once again, the company says 'sorry', too bad. Please don't make the mistake I did by purchasing from this company. I wish I would have read these reviews prior to ordering. I am truly disappointed with my table and bench. I had an Arhaus table before this one and I loved it. I thought purchasing something made in the US was the way to go. I was wrong. The wood is super soft. We've had it for about 4 weeks and it's already damaged...probably from the button on my son's jeans. Also, every time you sit down to eat, it becomes riddled with finger prints. It's impossible to keep smudge free. Really disappointed. read more
