This time around we finally got to ride the tram that has two tour times. One being at 11 am and the other at 1:30pm. I highly suggest you spray yourself with bug spray. Larry Thompson was a humor columnist for the Miami Herald for more than two decades until his death February 18, 1973. He is in the Florida Newspaper Hall of Fame. His wife Gladys "Penny" Thompson (née Rhodes), who died September 22, 1975, was a pioneer in women's aviation during the 1940s-1950s. She is in the Florida Aviation Hall of Fame and the Florida Women's Hall of Fame. She was the Florida chapter president of the Ninety-Nines, the women's pilot organization founded by Amelia Earhart. While in the Civil Air Patrol, she flew over the Gulf of Mexico searching for German submarines during World War II. Her plane was one of several hundred destroyed in a 1945 blimp hangar fire at the Naval Air Station Richmond, part of which was rebuilt as the park.

Near the parking lot is a restroom facility and some picnic tables sprinkled around. They have some beautiful trees over there including banyan trees. The field is ginormous and has a disc golf course. A little further down from that area is another part of the park. There is a large parking lot over there and a huge football/soccer field and 8-10 artificial turf soccer fields that are enclosed by a fence. They have a covered patio area with picnic tables over there as well. Even though there are a bunch of trees around, there is not a lot of shade on either section of the park, so plan accordingly. You do not need a military ID to visit the park, as it sits outside of the gate. It is a very peaceful park and easy to get to. If you are looking for a low key park to hang out and relax then this is your spot.

It's full of beautiful lush greenery with beautiful nature trails. I also loved the children's playground and splash pad. My son had so much fun and made a few friends. They also have a section with farm animals, which he also enjoyed so much. This is such a great spot to go alone and have some quiet time in nature or for a family fun day. The landscapes were beautiful but we were excited about the animals too. The gardens close at 5:30 pm but they take the animals (donkeys, cow, goats and pig) away at 4 pm, which we didn't know. So they were being put away as we got there. The playground is nice, although not very big, my girls enjoyed it. The water park closes earlier than the rest of the gardens too. Overall a lot of the "experiences" seemed to be closed on the Sunday we visited. Not sure it was worth the drive.
