It's not until you have that diploma in your hand that you realize what you had for four years: a fantastic, state-of-the-art center for knowledge that has an incredible number of resources all under one roof: historic artifacts, an efficient printmaking service, a kick-ass multimedia center, friendly and knowledgable staff, comfortable places to "read and relax," multiple quiet rooms (and noisy floors), independent study spaces, tons of DVDs, and more. Swem knows what it's doing, ladies and gentlemen, and that's even without funding out the wazoo like your hoity-toity private school down the interstate might enjoy. If you're looking for a place to work, study, or play, Swem is it. It's without a doubt the premier university library I've encountered and one of the most, if not the most, essential buildings on the William & Mary campus. ¡Viva Swem!

I stopped by here yesterday for the bike expo located at the library in there extra space. I went…read moreinto the library after the expo and was amazed with what I saw. I saw a passport center where you can get your passport done. It was so fresh and so clean and vibrant with colors. There's a maker space you can do an orientation for and learn how to use the cricket or the 3-D art, printer or learn how to use a sewing machine. They also had an ancestry section. I'm looking forward to doing some more research and try to do the ancestry maybe next time I've also booked a passport appointment for next week. I'll update with how it went.

They have film, books with indexed information, a large area is dedicated to genealogy and history. This was a very helpful visit and great experience. If you have time because you'll need it and your family comes from Virginia this is a good place to find information. The staff is friendly and helpful giving you pointers, they can lead you to locating information. I was able to find a document from the early 1800s regarding the marriage of my ancestors, it was amazing. This Library offers more than just books for you to view it offers a window into history, life and Virginia the good and the bad.

Before heading to a brewery for a Yelp event, I headed here after work for some much needed quality…read moretime. That is reading of course. Turns out this was not my first time here. The last was over 10 years ago when I was with friends for a local convention. Things have definitely not changed here at all. Let's see how the afternoon turned out. Upon walking in, I noticed quilts on display via the African American Sewical Threaders Guild. They're done as part of Black History Month. They were fantastic and well made. I didn't get the chance to see all of them, but activities like this are very important to the community. They deserve a huge applause for this all around. For reading time, I headed upstairs where they had more tables if you wanted to do homework, use your laptop for assignments, or like myself, enjoying a mostly quiet environment in front of a book. Foot traffic was at a minimum the entire time I was present and it was mostly quiet. Could not ask for more. The next time I'm in the area, hopefully I'll stop by again. Truly a calm place to relax. I'm pretty sure there are some people who actually live here, and that's not cool, in my opinion. Most of the time, there are some folks that think it's a good idea to show up and be as LOUD as they can and encourage their children to do the same. I'm here to tell them, it's not "iconoclastic" or "anti-authority" to do that.. it's just annoying and disrespectful. You're not breaking a "boomer tradition", you're just making yourselves seem even more unnecessary. Just saying. Aside from that, the place itself is good. Lots of walking space and plenty to read. Just be careful when requesting items, they claim to not carry CD's anymore, even though they do. And they'll refuse to get some items because of "low demand", which directly contradicts the person requesting it. I swear, I don't know what it is about the people that work at some of these places, but they're not helping the librarian stereotype. I still like this one though, overall.

I went yesterday because I needed to purchase "Something In The Water" tickets and I know they sell out quickly so i wanted to use my phone and computer simultaneously to increase my chances. NN Library wont send you to collections or demand your first born child in fees. Nothing like back home as far as fees go. NN Library is lacking some books. I have tried to find various books by feminist authors, not carried. However they have a terrific young adult selection, fiction, kids, and cooking. They also have DVD's with 7 day loan (that is pretty long if you ask me). And they display local authors. Use your local library. Its freaking awesome.
