This is actually my second round working with their company--they previously completed a brand new rubber and new shingle roof combination for me, and they did such a great job that I had no hesitation calling them again. The workmanship on their new shingle roof was top-quality--the roof looks fantastic, and the care and attention to detail really show. They also made my parents feel completely comfortable throughout the process and went above and beyond to be kind and respectful. James was incredibly helpful every step of the way. He explained everything in simple, easy-to-understand terms, which made it easy for both me and my parents to follow along. I first contacted James several years ago for a roof leak. He quickly identified the problem and repaired it. Eventually, the time came to get a new roof altogether and he quoted me a good price for a metal one. He and his team (Eric and Mike) installed a beautiful roof on our house with a matching roof on our backyard shed. They were very professional and conscientious about doing the job properly. He has also installed our new basement windows. I have recommended him to several friends and neighbors and they are all quite happy with his work. Hired James Dougherty to install a heavy duty storm door, apply roof coating, and replace a window. On Monday one of Dougherty's workers came and did the roof coating. The gentleman was friendly and did the work thoroughly and quickly. We were told that he would return the next day with everything that he needed to frame and install the door and window. On Tuesday he was a no show. We attempted to call the business phone number which we used many times to set up the project, but there was never an answer. When put through to voicemail we would get the 'a mailbox has not been set up for this number' message from the telephone provider. Weird. The number worked fine just days prior, and we had left messages at that number with no problem. Thankfully we had not given them the full amount of the agreed upon cost of the project yet, so we thought 'oh well'. On Thursday Mr. Dougherty himself came to inspect the roof and began to install the door and measured for the window replacement. He told us that the reason his worker never returned was because the business had to fire him for theft. We also told Mr. Dougherty about the problems we had trying to get in touch with him and he gave us a different number in case we needed to call again. The door was installed by Thursday evening, but the edging, sealing and window installation still needed to be completed. Dougherty claimed that he had other projects for the rest of the week and stated that he would be back on Monday to finish the door and window. Before leaving he requested that we give him the money for the rest of the project. We had been given a satisfactory reason for the no show and we were dealing with the owner of the business after all, so we gave him the money. We never saw him or any of his workers again. We tried to call the new number he had given us after nobody showed up on Monday. We got through to Mrs. Dougherty and she stated that he would call back by the end of the day. No Call. On Tuesday we attempted to call again. No answer, no way to leave a message. We tried the old number, the new number, texting the numbers - nothing. By Thursday we got messages on both numbers that they were no longer in service. This man took 1,800 of our dollars and only did half of the job we hired him to do. I would NEVER recommend this contractor. Steer clear of this guy for sure! read more
