There are two parking lots…read moreand a barn-like white building that is not the funeral home, I'm guessing they store their hearses in there? It's the nicer building across the street. Solemnly walked up the steps and was greeted by a host. I gave the last name and he instructed me where to go. Looks like they have a few decently sized rooms. Signed the welcome book and entered the room straight to the back. As you can imagine there was a coffin in the back of the room, rows of chairs, a couple couches, those bronze hand things to hold Mass cards... Flowers etc. Looked like a nice place, comfortable and solemn feeling. I said my condolences and got out of dodge because dead bodies in a room seem weird to me. When I left the host said something pleasant, but I said, "have a nice day" and bee lined. If this is your last stop, and your family wants to traditionally display you while they hover around... I'd consider this place. Grief isn't a laughing matter, and these people seem Professional and well versed in how to handle these situations, unlike myself.

This is a family owned business…read moreand the Funeral Director Curt Schmitt truly went above and beyond to assist in a unusual family circumstance. Our family can never thank him for the peace he has given us. My brother Glenn recently passed away in Texas. He he did not have a wife or family who could take care of his burial in Texas. I contacted Schmitt's funeral and spoke to Curt and he recommended a funeral director in El Paso TX who I was able to get my brother from the hospital morgue to a facility where he could be properly cremated and then after some veterans paperwork... We were able to have his remains shipped to New York to the Charles G Schmitt funeral home. Curt was wonderful with his staff making arrangements for my brother who is an army veteran. The thing is I haven't been in contact with my brother for over 40 years so I didn't have a lot of information and what little information I was able to provide they were able to get my brother approved to be laid to rest at the Long Island National veterans cemetery in Farmingdale. The staff at the Long Island National veterans cemetery was amazing, I was thankful for the honor guard as well as the clergy that was provided. There is no words for the value and appreciation one gets from a military service. Whether you choose to have your loved one buried in a traditional grave site or placed in an urn and put in a niche... Contact them and have a conversation and I'm sure you will be satisfied with the professionalism and sincere care that they provide.

Totally odd for me to think to check in at a funeral home, but totally felt compelled to after…read moretoday's visit for a totally deserving and super amazing fella that truly lived a good life. This location was easy to find and had street and parking lot options to choose from. Personally opted for street as I knew I was running in for only a bit. The lot didn't seem that big, and in my mind save it for the family that is there the entire time. Location like many others was clean and conformable upon entry. Even the restroom (universal for all) was super clean and kept up well. What I found unique and different at this location which compelled me to post a review, was that eventhough not a mega sized locations with multiple rooms (in use at same time, usually), this one seemed very personal able, and have a second floor (basement level), which was a playroom type of space for kids. That's right...no fear parents of dreading to bring your little ones with you to say your goodbyes, as they can be brought in to see family and then escorted downstairs to ride out the time you want to stay and be with family safety. I thought this to be pretty different and unique. Who knows maybe other locations have something similar and I never noticed, but this time totally jumped out at me as being totally note worth.

Chris is likely to have attended to thousands of funerals, but there was no sense that this was 'same-old, same-old' with him. He was so in tune with where the family was emotionally, and was able to adjust accordingly. He was such a calming, helpful presence throughout. He has the wisdom of knowing that people's faculties are compromised at a time like this and guided us gently through each part of the process at just the right time, never invasive, checking in on what might be needed and offering just the right amount of guidance and preparation. Likewise, every inch of the funeral home and their chapels have been designed to make you feel the warmth, serenity and dignity you would wish for at such a time: The decor is elegant but homey; the background music is peaceful and settling; the fish pond and fountain in the reception area adds a natural, calming element, and of course, there's Jake. Jake (Chris's shadow) is a young, highly trained labradoodle who is the resident support dog, gently walking around, offering himself to anyone he senses may need him. He is a special soul and he loves his work. I don't think the process could have gone more smoothly. The chapel was beautifully set up and my mother-in-law looked so naturally elegant and peaceful at her wake in the chapel. They did an incredible job. They created a beautiful digital slideshow from all our photos and set up our photo boards and flowers magnificently. After the service, they packed up everything from the chapel and stored it for us carefully until we could collect it at our convenience. Nothing seemed too much for them as long as they could help make this process as easy and meaningful as possible for us. One final aspect worth mentioning: The funeral home allowed us to arrange a lot upfront, before my mother-in-law passed, which similar business services do not always allow. Once someone has passed, emotions are so high that it's really hard to concentrate on small details, which is required to plan accordingly. Being able to plan this all upfront was incredibly helpful.

I had to lay my father to rest last week and I have to say that I could not have gotten through…read morethis horrible time in my life without the help from Vito and the entire staff at O'Shea's. We spent hours going through all of the details and not once did we feel rushed or that we were just another customer. Vito truly listened to us and helped us make some decisions we were not sure about and pointed us in the right direction with certain things. He explained everything thoroughly and I cannot recommend them enough. They did such an incredible job on everything. Very detail orientated and made sure to check all the boxes so there were no surprises or missing information so that way this transition period was as smooth as possible. The wake was extremely hard to get through as expected but the whole staff was extremely nice and accommodating. I noticed that the prayer cards had run out and one of the staff was nice enough to bring me into the office to grab more and let me choose which one I wanted since I didn't have a chance to pick one out. I chose the one with flames and an eagle since I know that would have been my father's choice. A++ stand up staff that goes above and beyond and is an absolute pleasure to deal with.
