I have hired Mr. James Butler on a half a dozen occasions to do jobs both large and small, and received first-rate service at all times. I typically prefer to bring a contractor into my home on a relatively small job just to get a sense of how reliable they are and if it's a good fit. However, this time around was an exception as I was putting in a new bathroom. It was a gut to the studs rehab and Mr. Butler did a first rate job, and so I began to hire him for other duties. Regarding the bathroom rehab, Mr. Butler came to me about an hour after he first arrived and told me that I was going to need an additional fuse box downstairs because I had simply run out of room. This of course is the typical thing that one runs into, "we can't really tell you the price until we open up the wall, and then tell you what's wrong". But he was absolutely correct, and additionally, when he saw my crestfallen face he assured me that he would do his best to keep the price down, and he did. Mr. Butler also works for the condo association that I manage, and I recommend him without reservation. He is honest, does great work, is very respectful of your home and living space, and very clean. And even though he's crazy busy, he always returns phone calls by the end of business next day at the latest. Mr. Butler is a fine craftsman, an artist, and an honest, good-natured gentleman who is a pleasure to do business with. He not only knows everything one might expect of a tradesman working with electricity, but he knows enough about building in general to make very good recommendations about lighting solutions, placement of fixtures, and the timing of when and how larger job should take place. read more

I called James M. Butler on behalf of a Cat Shelter for an electrical risk assessment and to verify that everything was in order and up to code. Jimmy returned my call within 1hr, (Extra points for that) and was very helpful at finding a time that worked for both of us. Due to scheduling conflict, he was willing to come a Sunday (Extra points for that too) Jimmy was *on time*, polite, professional, and took the time to check and re-check everything. Jimmy *never-ever* gave me a runaround, or even remotely tried to sell me something that was unnecessary, and that is called honesty, ethics and professionalism. Hello, Before I call a service provider to come into my home. Weather it is an electrican,plumber,carpenter ETC. I do my due diligence on making sure that they are a five star or grade A rated buissness. A few of the webmarketing sites i go to are Homeadvisor.com, yellowpages.com and Angieslist.com. And i will look to make sure the company has a listing there. In todays day an age you never know who you are calling if its a scam or there out to take advantage of you. So i found james butler electric listed on all these sites and they had outstanding reviews. I hired james butler electric to come out to my home and give me and electrical evaluation on my current electrical system, as he was analyzeing the system, mr butler would address issues that arised. The job took about three hours, he started in the basement and worked his way all the way to the attic, going throughout the house room by room, at the end of the job Mr Butler generated and itemized list of what needed to be fixed so there would be no chance of a fire. Not only did James follow up promptly when I requested a quote, but he began work within 2 weeks. Jim Butler is a real problem solver, and cares about the quality of his work. He has worked on my home and those of neighbors several times. Just one example: I had a string of outlets in my kitchen all wired to the same circuit. Mysteriously, one of them would go "dark" from time to time. Jim quickly found that it was putting out only 48 volts (not the normal 120V). Strange! The original electrical work (NOT done by him) was clearly faulty. It was also tricky because the solution required rewiring behind kitchen cabinets amid a tangle of plumbing in the walls. No problem for Jim, and he was all done quickly. Jim installed a wall oven for us just before Thanksgiving. He came over a couple of times to check existing wiring and double-check measurements before the install. He and his apprentice did a fine job, were very personable, and left the kitchen in good shape. He's relatively easy to contact and came when he said he would come. Once or twice he had to reschedule but he did call us when he was running late so we knew what was going on.
