The bankruptcy process was long and arduous. Not a great deal of communication between us during to process. We started it in March and in July our paperwork was filed with the court. Okay so far, nothing really bad going on. Except, it was revealed to me that he himself was in bankruptcy for very much the same reason we were. That was until we had our initial hearing with the bankruptcy court. My debt was over the debt ceiling for the State of Oregon. Isn't this something that a bankruptcy attorney should know? Of course it is. After the hearing, our calls were not taken and only an email showed up. Need to research the problem. That is it. Meeting with him a week later, it was explained that he knew the debt ceiling and was hoping that the bankruptcy trustee would overlook the amount of debt I had since he slid another client through who exceeded the debt ceiling. My case was nothing but a gamble for him. He was rolling the dice with my financial future, my house and my life. I was then told after liens we placed on my house to come back and we could move forward. Fast forward. Contacted Chris. Provided a lien report for my home and. my current pay information. Weeks went by. Nothing. Followed up. Was told that he had not been able to get to it. Followed up again and this time, was kicked to the curb. Was told that he wouldn't be able to get to me for several weeks and that he was swamped with other work. I had hoped that after the massive fuck up with the filing of my case and the debit ceiling we ran into that our case might have gotten a little more attention. I now have a bankruptcy on my credit, having to. try to recover from the devastating credit advice, and still have issues with the IRS and liens on my house and no relief to show for it. DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY.

I hesitated on filling mostly due to cost and fear that it just wouldn't help me enough. Chris was incredibly helpful explaining things to me, he stuck by me for months while I was asking questions, before I even filed. Finally when I was ready to file he made it VERY affordable and guided me along the way with each and every step. I would recommend anyone who is considering a Bk to see him, he will not pressure you and is very good at what he does. The level of attention he provides is also phenomenal. Some of these lawyers you can never get a hold of, he responds to me same day almost every single time. Thank you Chris for helping me get my life back. omid

I've talked with several attorneys over the years who brushed off student loans in general because it wasn't their specialty. Student loans ARE Chris's specialty. Chris knows the ins and outs of federal and private loans and the current laws that govern them. He is very accessible and compassionate. He carefully listened to the details of my situation, asked questions, and gave me very practical advice. Thanks to his advice, I'm now in a better situation with my student loans than I would have ever thought possible. I've already recommended him on many occasions. If you've been looking for a student loans attorney, Chris is your guy.

Rather than stick my head in the sand (as many people do), I went looking for counsel. The first two "companies" I spoke with were as bad as the collection company itself and wanted huge upfront fees that I could not afford. Somehow in one of my searches online I happened on Chris and reached out to him with only days to spare before my scheduled court appearance. We had a long phone consultation and he agreed to help me. Chris calmed me down and put my initial fears to rest. He was able to wade through the ins and outs of this particular "student loan" and get it settled fairly and quickly. I am not able to discuss particulars, but I am one happy client. I heartily recommend Chris Mertens.

I have nothing but positive things to say about the whole experience from start to finish. Kenji and his small but mighty team were beyond caring, attentive, and professional in every way. Every email was copied to the whole team so nothing ever got missed. I was guided through all the document gathering, and they took the necessary time through emails and phone calls to grasp and understand the nature of my business and financial losses so they could do the best job to recover everything. They did not miss a thing!! They handled every aspect of my case with full transparency and gained my complete trust. They were there every step of the way through my hours-long deposition and even longer mediation. Kenji made sure we had plenty of time to talk and prepare beforehand so there were no surprises and I felt completely comfortable in the space. The end result was a settlement that was well over what I anticipated when I first reached out to Kenji. I 100% recommend!!

I have trained attorneys, law enforcement, investigators, survivors, family members at the national as well as state and local levels. I know elder and abuse law: including financial exploitation and the ethics of best practice. After observing, and being impacted negatively, by Ms Yazzolino's year's long handling of my family's trust case, which was shocking on so many levels and required a court order to resolve, I will simply state that I would never recommend her to anyone, ever. This was a highly contested and emotionally exhausting court case that took several years to resolve. Ms. McCarthy's adult children were the opposing party, and they were represented by their own attorney. Ms. Yazzolino was professional, thorough and diligent in representing me through this proceeding. My experience with her was nothing short of outstanding. Ms. Yazzolino went above and beyond, made the process more bearable, and I am proud to say that I prevailed. For what it is worth, this case closed a few years ago. Ms. McCarthy was not a party and had no legal interest in the outcome. For anyone interested in reading the facts of this case for themselves, it can be found at Multnomah County Case No. 19PB05462.
