Alchemix in Woolloongabba has exceptional rates for the use of their recording studio. I used to perform a lot (in a past life), and it was always important as a classical singer to have sound bites and recordings for audition purposes or to send to agencies. I went into Alchemix for a two hour session and got 5 pieces recorded and mixed (not heavily, but it was OK for my purposes) for less than $200. I have also been there with a group where we recorded some demos for a corporate gig. The facilities are decent and the guys in the studio are great. Some of them are sound engineering students, but they know their stuff. If you are looking for somewhere cheap with a reasonable set up to record, Alchemix offer great packages and prices.

The gear supplied is top of the range, from the PA system to the cables everything supplied is going bang for your buck. The staff are always friendly and very knowledgeable if you have any issues with the house systems and will help you set up if you're new there. There is a kiosk with a supply of the basic gear like strings, cables, batteries and picks and a shop selling some food for the famished. They also provide a microwave and a communal fridge if you've brought your own supplies. Out Loud is a non-smoking inside but provides a covered outdoor area. Once a month they have a live session promoting all ages events, they are particularly interested in putting on shows for those in high schools. They are one of the more expensive rehearsal spaces in Brisbane but worth the money out of the band kitty.
