First and last time customer. Brought my cat for a check up regarding some urinary concerns. Arrived early to the appointment, was taken in late, and no additional time was added to our visit. Vet was nice enough, listened to what I had to say, asked questions, the usual. When it came time to perform the more costly procedure on my cat, significant details were left out which would have 1000% influenced my decision not to proceed. As others have mentioned, this did give me a strong feeling of a keen interest in the "bottom line" as a cheaper test would've likely yielded the same/necessary results. Following this, I consulted with my original vet (who was unavailable at the time which led me to try these guys) who agreed and confirmed their own pricing - which was significantly less than what I paid here. There were other issues but I won't be coming back primarily for the fact that all pertinent information regarding an invasive procedure, unbeknownst to me, was not disclosed during the process of making my decision. read more

Called during business hours (around 6:40pm) was put on hold for 20+ minutes and then was told they were close and there was nothing they could do as they were bow closed, wasting potentially precious time to find a facility that could assist us. I have been bringing our pets to your clinic for years but no more. I spoke to you by phone to say I needed something to relax my sweet dog because he was going to get groomed and needed some medication. You prescribed 75 mg of Tramadol over the phone without seeing him and he subsequently overdosed on the two dosages I gave him causing him to literally collapse on our kitchen floor. He passed away yesterday. The diagnosis was liver cancer so I am not putting the blame on you. However the vet at the clinic he went to was concerned that there was a factor of perhaps an overdose of the medication. read more

I completely forgot to ask for the name of the lady that handled my cat- but she has light brown hair and glasses and worked with my cat Ella twice. The first time she met Ella, Ella was probably less than one year old. This veterinarian was so gentle and affectionate with Ella while handling her. She verbally walked us through everything that she was checking for and how she checked for it. She ended up nailing the first diagnosis which was an allergy to poultry. Ella is now 2 years old and had some behavioural issues so I brought her in on October 20th. I am so grateful I got the same vet to take care of Ella. She ran all of the necessary tests that she could, she let me confide in her when test results were scary, she didn't judge me when I was a snotty mess lol She continued to handle Ella with such love and care. She's extremely empathetic, gentle, knowledgeable and generous. She spent around an hour or so making calls to emergency hospitals for me to send Ella to for her anemia. Because of her, I made it to an animal hospital in Guelph before Ella's condition got worse. Now Ella has been there for two nights, she has received a blood transfusion and they're currently determining the root diagnosis. I am so regretful for not getting the veterinarian's name! I would not visit this vet clinic due to the service and treatment provided by Dr. Stefanie Shatsky. She misdiagnosed our pet which almost led to death and hundreds of dollars in unnecessary medication. Even after receiving details and updates from treatment provided by the emergency clinic, not one vet or staff member took the time to follow up and check on his condition. We had originally trusted this clinic and felt they had animals health as top priority. It has become very clear that this clinic puts $$$$ ahead of the animals health and well being. read more

Look, I'm going to admit that I chose Jane Animal Hospital based on google reviews when searching for the absolute closest vet to my house in order to rush my cat in to get looked at. Google reviews for this vet clinic are STELLAR, so it was a no-brainer. Here is my 5/5 star review, and a big thank you to the amazing staff here: I got back from the long weekend vacation to find my cat doing HORRIBLY. She was very extremely lethargic, refusing to eat or drink, and crying in pain when touched around the mouth and face. To preface, my partner and I adopted her from PetSmart/an adoption agency working with PetSmart and we were told she was happy, healthy, albeit a little overweight and in dire need of a diet, but a great cat. Soon after we got her, we noticed that her breath was smelling HORRIBLE and one of her bottom incisors had fallen out. Uh-oh. Naturally, we took her back to the adoption agency to have her looked at by their vet. The vet from the agency told us that yes, it looks like her teeth are starting to rot in her mouth and will need to come out soon (why didn't anyone tell us this in the first place?! And why was this not noticed by the vet who cleared her for adoption?). She gave us some antibiotics and sent us on our way and told us to call in a week or so to schedule an appointment. Well, she didn't last that long. After finding Jane Animal Hospital on Google, we called to make an appointment and they took us right away. The techs were very thorough and started taking down notes on her condition and what we had to say about her symptoms and quick deterioration. Soon after, Dr. Johnson came in and started to physically examine our cat. She immediately noticed, after parting the white fur on our cats head, that her skin was starting to turn yellow, her gums/lips white, her inner eyelid white/yellow, gums rotting so badly that they were green and bright red and incredibly swollen. This was worse than what we had thought. Dr. Johnson explained to us that what was probably happening was this: Because of her badly (BADLY!!) infected mouth, she was refusing to eat or drink, which was leading to stress on her liver and kidneys, which started to back up her liver and give her fatty liver disease. We explained to Dr. Johnson that we were suppose to make an appointment with a different vet to get her teeth pulled, which Dr. Johnson was supportive of, but we were all worried that our cat wasn't going to last another week in the state she was in. Dr. Johnson gave us multiple quotes for different things she could help us with in the mean time (medication, a feeding tube, etc) while we waited to make a decision or decide what to do regarding the other vet. She also gave us a quote for Jane Animal Hospital to do the extraction themselves. During this whole procedure, Dr. Johnson was incredibly sympathetic, patient, thorough and answered all of our questions in the best way for us to understand. In the end, we decided that we couldn't wait for this other vet and we needed to help our cat ASAP. Dr. Johnson gave us some medication, high quality cat food to help her liver and pain killers to tide us over for 1.5 days until the surgery. The surgery went great; our cat had to have 25 teeth removed (you guys, you should have seen the x-rays and the photos they took of our cats mouth. It was truly horrific) and she had a feeding tube placed in her neck to aid in recovery and keeping her mouth in the least amount of pain possible. During the entire surgery process, we received text message updates and calls regarding what was being done and how she was doing. When we picked our cat up after surgery, another vet, Dr. Sterbinsky, came out to discuss the surgery, recovery and projected outcome. He explained to us everything that was done, and he took his time to go over what medication to give and the feeding plan/amounts that she was going to need every day. He was a pleasure and made us feel at ease about everything. Overall, we had such a positive experience. The staff were so kind, knowledgeable, patient, sympathetic and experienced. Yes, the procedure was expensive. But, they were upfront about what everything was going to cost from the minute we started to discuss what needed to be done, so there were no surprises. We are so thankful for the Jane Animal Hospital team. read more

Jane Animal Hospital is Ok. I've been there a couple of times. The care is Ok but I'm only giving them 2 stars because I've found their prices to be way too high. My dog needs her glands expelled *regularly* and my previous vet charged less than half of what Jane charges. It's a very simple -- if somewhat unpleasant -- procedure that literally takes 5 minutes yet they charge me almost the cost of a full consultation/check-up. The last time I was in, the vet did not perform the procedure, the techs did. They took my dog into another room (not required for this procedure) but didn't close the door so I could see and hear them using my dog to train one of their techs on how to perform this procedure. My dog is anxious as it is; this didn't help. I'm all for training but I would have felt better if they had a) asked me and b) not charged me so much. As the 2-star rating says: "Meh. I've been bringing my dog here for over a year now and the staff are incredibly kind and accommodating. Whenever I have had questions about anything they get back to me right away. I get my dogs tick and flea medications here in the summer and after we found out she had a heart murmur, they were quick to book her an ultrasound appointment and get back to me as soon as possible with the results. I was a little sceptical, because I have never been to any animal hospitals that I liked. Many veterinarians didn't reach out to me, were too stiff, and/or did not seem like they truly cared about my dog's well-being. I was expecting the same, but when I met Dr. Stacey White, I was very relieved to see that really, the Jane Animal Hospital is different. My dog, Cookie, gets very nervous around strangers and tends to shake uncontrollably, but Dr. White was very gentle with Cookie, and used a very soothing tone. Of course, being a chihuahua mix, Cookie still shook a little (haha), but did very well with Dr. White. When asked whether the Jane Animal Hospital would be my regular clinic, I immediately said 'yes' without a second thought. I'm glad to have found this hospital! It wasn't just Dr. White who was friendly--Jennifer, the receptionist, had excellent telephone manners and was a real pleasure to speak to. Tina helped me get an estimate for Cookie's dental work, and answered any questions that I had with detailed knowledge. All in all, I was very happy with the service! read more

Went for a check-up with the gut feeling that it would be more, ends up my cat needs several teeth pulled. (Side note, why will cats yell for hours at a closed door but not offer a peep about their stupid jaw being all swollen up and in pain? Caaaat.) I had Dr Johnson, who was friendly and conversational, explained everything logically and thoroughly but not like I was an idiot. Laid out exactly what they would be doing and the maximum it would cost so I could budget for the next visit. Brigette, the tech, was super helpful and taught me how to administer the antibiotics and even gave me a couple samples of the treat pouches so I could see if my cat liked them before buying a whole bag. Even the receptionist, Marija, was kind and cheerful both on the phone and in person. Everything was very efficient and digital, their website is great, informative and lets you set up appointments online, and they were all really good with my cat. I especially loved the super zen clinic cats who wandered around and napped on the front desk respectively. I can't address cost comparison, as I haven't been to a lot of vets in the city, but it seemed fair to me. I hope to make this my regular place. read more

Sad experience with Jane Animal Hospital. My 9 year old dog suddenly became sick on friday. Coughing blood and other symptoms. We brought him to vet in our area who gouged us on a blood test he didn't even need (but that is a different review *Bathurst Animal Hospital*). After spending most of my money at the first vet on Friday, I had spent most of Friday searching for a vet who would do a payment plan so my dog could receive a diagnosis and possible treatment that he so desperately needed. (When I first got my dog Simba as a small puppy I had an extensive amount of savings, but now as a mom of 2 children and a student, I had very little savings left). I finally got in contact with a female receptionist at Jane animal hospital. (I unfortunately did not get her name) between 3:55pm-4:25pm on Friday. I explained to her my situation. That my dog was ill, I brought him to vet on Friday afternoon, had asked them to do an X-ray but they pushed for a blood test that was not necessary which found nothing. I now had little money and was reaching out to different vets in the city to see if anyone would be willing to work out a payment plan with me. I explained to her the severity of his illness and that I could offer $100-$150 up front and could pay them weekly. She said yes we do payment plans here. I asked her a second time, are you sure you guys are able to accept a payment plan? I told her I promised to pay every week, she then continued to say that yes they do pay plans and they could help me no problems. I then drove 40 minutes to their clinic (in traffic), was seen by a vet (I believe her name was Stephanie. She suggested we do an X-ray (I agreed with that). She proceeded to go over costs for this service, I mentioned to her my conversation with the receptionist regarding a payment plan. She told me she didn't believe that they offered payment plans as an option. She went to speak with the other staff and returned to tell me that No they did not offer payment plans. I burst into tears due to instant overwhelming feelings and frustration. She was kind and offered me kleenex and went to talk with the other staff once more. She returned to say that her staff did not remember speaking with me when I had first called and had a conversation about a payment plan but someone remembered speaking with me to re book the 5pm appointment to 5:30pm. I told her isn't it obviouds then that I had spoken with someone to book the 5pm appointment in the first place? Stephanie offered to help me lookup a vet that would offer a payment plan but she then instead just gave me two pamphlets of other hospitals that were 24 hours. I left heartbroken. 1-2 days later the clinic manager or coordinater lady phoned me to discuss what happened. I explained the situation again and that I was not frustrated too much with the lady who gave me the wrong information but that I was really frustrated with whoever trained her. I told her that I had hoped someone had taken accountability for this situation and the mis-information that was given to me. She proceeded to tell me that one staff did admit to conversing with me when I phoned to book the 5pm appointment and she had remembered me asking but told me to hold on and she would ask and then the line got cut or something long those lines.. LIES LIES LIES. I was fuming mad and still am. Like make a mistake okay, TAKE OWNERSHIP! Don't completely lie about the conversation. I explained to the manager or coordinater lady exactly and how clearly the conversation was and that I had even asked twice to be very sure. She asked how she could fix this situation, I recommended that I felt a discounted X-ray would be very fair given the circumstances (It would have been good customer service and compensation). She said no we don't do that. Okay then, take this free advertising :). Good day!! read more

I decided to bring my 8 week old kitten here who is now 18 weeks. The first time I came here I was misinformed about the pricing, I was shocked that my total went from $20 for a booster to $116 in the end. When I asked for a break down of what I was paying for the receptionist seemed bothered by that she had a very bad attitude to be up at front desk. Although they do a good job and seem to genuinely care about animals the fact that you get misinformed is not good at all. I came here based on the fact that they're considered a "affordable" vet. Took my kitten here again for her last set of shots and the price was off again, the exam is mandatory, understood. However for an exam that consists of playing with my cat, listening to her heart and checking her ears that's definitely not worth the $70 + dollars they charge... My advice is to go to the humane society it may be a longer wait time but they never overcharged me! read more

Brutal... they charge you out the ass for misdiagnosis. In past two months ive been there twice when my dog was itchy. They examined him for about three minutes and then prescribed him steroids. The whole thing cost about 160 maybe more. Then came back to say that the problem continued to persist and they spent two minutes brushing him to determine he has a mild case of fleas..... then charged me 110 for a reexamination and the flea meds.... are you kidding me? More importantly, they have provided excellent care, been supportive of our wishes and informative during visits. We had to bring our cat to Jane Animal Hospital for the worst reason imaginable, but we were met with such compassion and consideration that I cannot speak more highly of this clinic. From the moment I phoned, we were quickly accommodated and met with such understanding. The front staff, the techs and the vet we saw (who I believe is Dr. Roque) were so warm and gentle with our sweet old cat who we had to say goodbye to that day. The vet did an exam and both my husband and myself were actually quite comforted by what she found (what happened to her was acute, there was nothing we could do at that point to improve the quality of her life). She gently put our minds at ease about making such a hard decision but did not push us one way or another. She simply gave us important facts in order to make our own call. They gave us time to say goodbye to our sweet girl, and everyone was incredibly respectful about the choices we made surrounding that. Ever since we got our first dog, 7 years ago, we have always gone to Jane Animal Hospital. The vets and staff are caring and kind. We have two other dogs now, and we also take them there. Other people have said that it would be cheaper to take them to other clinics, that may be, but you cannot put a price on trust. Had to bring my cat in for what I thought was an infected eye duct. I know they are an expensive clinic from past experience, so I was worried the cost would balloon. My experience with most vets in general is that they'll recommend expensive diagnostic tests before drawing conclusions, and then try to guilt you into getting elective work done at great personal expense. With that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised with this vet. He didn't guilt me about my cat's teeth (he's an older cat so his teeth are not in great shape), checked his general health, gave me some sound advice on addressing his weight, and told me that while I could treat his eye issue with a cream, it was something normal and I could leave it with no risk. He didn't try to push me towards a treatment but said the cream was inexpensive and to call him if I changed my mind. Everyone at the clinic were clearly animal lovers; they were very gentle, caring and calm around my cat, who doesn't generally like strangers. Good experience overall, very professional and I think optimal handling--recommendation to monitor but with reasonable treatment options made available. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the price ($70 plus tax for a checkup). That said, they're in a very wealthy area (across the road from Baby Point) so I can't blame them for adjusting their prices in accordance with their clientele. read more

Quite a disappointing experience. As our anxious but quiet cat was being examined and decided jump off the table, Dr Odell grabbed him by the tail (yes!) in order to put him back on the examination table and continued his conversation with us as if nothing had happened in spite the expression of shock and concern on our faces. It is only once were left in the room with the more professional and compassionate assistant that she apologized for the Dr Odell's behavior and mentioned that ''she would talk to him'' about the incident. When leaving the clinic, our healthy cat was so traumatized by the experience that he vomited in his carrier for the first time after paying a visit to the vet. Considering the (high) amount that we were charged for the visit, we simply expected a better, gentler service. read more

If I could give a lower review I would. I went to see the vet here after having a healthy cat for 8 years. She's getting older now, and health problems happen, but the vets here are massively negligent. Instead of looking in her mouth and doing a thorough exam of any kind, the vet declared it was cancer that had my cat sick. This was not the case. They tried to money grab wanting to test for everything under the sun, when in fact she had a tooth abscess, something you can see clearly with your eyes. Upon taking her to a competent vet, the did the extraction and we had started the healing process, but all too late. She hasn't been able to heal as the back and forth with the initial vet went on so long, we were set back valuable time and this will prove fatal. This diagnoses was seconded by other doctors at this location, I can't believe the negligence of this place. I spoke to another woman in their waiting room who had had a similar experience with them, I wonder how many have been affected. Please do not take your pets here, I urge you to find a vet that has your Pet's interests at heart, these are just friendly crooks looking to take your money. read more

Brought my dog in here one time as I was visiting family and he had an ear infection. I had recently switched him to a raw diet, and knew he was detoxing, but his ears were red and raw from all the itching. We saw Dr. Johnson who was adamant on not feeding raw and telling me that "dogs digestive systems are more similar to humans than you think". Maybe vets aren't educated on canine nutrition in school, but here's a quick lesson: Cats and Dogs are CARNIVORES. They don't need carbs/veggies in their diet. Their digestive tracts are much shorter than ours, and their stomachs more acidic. Maybe some updated education is required before you give clients incorrect information, or maybe that's what keeps you in business - kibble fed animals who are constantly sick. read more

I've taken my pets to The Jane Animal Hospital for 12 years, and they are wonderful. I highly recommend this clinic.

I took my dog in and found out my bill was 200 dollars, they tried to charge me for fecal exam even though I didnt have any feces with me(which is just a way of forcing you to do the test, which will show your dog may have worms, even though you dewormed them twice with them) I called in to find out how much her next booster shot of lepto would be as I did not trust them at this point but their vet is close by. They told me 65 dollars which includes the exam(Yes they have to do an exam on a 3 week booster shot, because sticking a thermometre up my dogs bum and looking at her teeth EQUALS= 65.00$ plus tax) SO I get there and they give her the booster after asking hundreds of questions (in order to find SOMETHING they can do with the dog to charge me more$$) And they Insist on clipping some hair down there, because it wasnt very clean (I guess they dont know, dogs dont wipe their private area after pee like humans) At the end they charged me $112 I complained, but still left paying 80$ because they said they made a mistake on the codes, whatever- the only reason they gaveme a SMALL break was because my dog needs to get spayed in a few months, and they realize I would have gone somewhere else@! Which I will anyways. Very unprofessional and rude receptionist. Someone there lied on the phone to get me to go back, as I was thinking of going elswhere. STAY AWAY! read more

This clinic is great. I really liked that they didn't charge you an extra fee for the first time visiting this clinic, which has happened at other clinics I had gone to. I find their prices not overly expensive. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the Vet took the time to go over what I should do. I will continue coming to this clinic and would recommend it to anyone who needs a new clinic. read more
