There aren't big signs to show you exactly where it is, so if you're a not in the know tourist…read more(like me), you'd totally miss it - even by foot. Case in point: Hubbers is very familiar with the area, and we still ended up making a wrong turn (we turned early when it was actually next door. Heh...) But it was part of our day's tour, so we were gonna end up here one way or another.
If you're interested in Merida's history, this place is full of so much information. There are murals on every wall, each explaining what the pictures are depicting. We took our time reading through those as we walked through all the corridors. Next was the museum which contained tons of paintings, and like the murals, also with stories behind them.
We were done in about an hour, hour and a half tops, and that's without rushing. We learned tons of interesting historical facts!
The building has been around over 130 years, but there are still active/working government offices in continued use today.
And the best part of this visit? IT'S FREE.
A definite must stop for tourists who are interested in learning about how Merida came about. Highly recommending.
