Everything about Jasmine is amazing! She's a beautiful human inside and out who encourages dancers to feel confident and have fun. Her energy is super positive and she's always open to questions and comments as we go through class. We've tried one other teacher before but in Jasmine's classes it is the first time I feel confident to mess up and it will be ok. She is kind and patient and the culture she creates supports this energy. We've been taking her classes for just shy of a year and it's been so much fun in our lives. The people in class, the community she's cultivated, and the overall vibe is seriously just so much best! It is $25 for drop in or $20 per class if you do the whole series, usually about 8 weeks. She offers classes in Santa Rosa, Petaluma, and Larkspur each week. She also puts on dances throughout the year between Marin and Sonoma county which are a great opportunity to mix and mingle within the community and flex your moves! Thanks to Jasmine, we went from zero to awesome in 6 months! My husband and I took private lessons with Jasmine almost every week before our wedding because we were terrified of having to do our "first dance" without knowing how to dance. Like, we literally knew nothing about dancing. My then-fiancé could only dance like an awkward nerd, and I couldn't even clap to a beat. We're both scientists and technical people, so we asked a lot of questions about the intricacies of dance (as opposed to just being able to "feel" it like most people apparently do) and she was able to break the dances down into their fundamental pieces for us. I treated myself to Jasmine's dance classes during the pandemic and it was one of my COVID silver linings. She is a natural, gentle teacher that makes learning fun and stress free. Jasmine came highly recommended to us by our wedding planner. From our initial call, we could tell that Jasmine was extremely personable and that we were going to get along great. On that call, she got a feel for who we were as a couple and what we were looking for out of a first dance (something that made us look competent and coordinated, but not highly choreographed). A couple of years ago I treated my girlfriend to a date night dance lesson. This was quite brave of me because my dance experience is limited to spastic off tempo movements only appropriate for Bar Mitzvahs. That's when we met Jasmine. She patiently helped me through Hotline Bling on endless repeat and by the end, I understood what a beat was. I could even dance by moving my feet and not just bobbing my head. My girlfriend appreciated the date and she apparently saw other good qualities in me, so when I proposed, she said yes. Suddenly I was stuck with the most horrifying thing I could possibly imagine - a first dance. We called up Jasmine again and gave her a challenge - could she get us ready to dance to "Let's Get Married" by Bleachers in a couple of months? Most people choose slow songs, but if I was going to dance, I wanted some juice! There's no point in boring the friends, relative, and people who generally tolerate us. The first few lessons were learning some basic moves, a twirl here, a spin there. Before long we were linking them together. And I was dancing (I guess I should say "we" but really my fiancé was a natural and didn't need as much instruction.) As I gained confidence I started revealing my true desires - during our first dance I wanted to put my bride in as many life threatening situations as possible. Gotta keep things interesting. It was game-on! We practiced deep dips and swing sets. We incorporated a cherry drop. Jasmine let me drop her on a hard floor multiple times, so I didn't drop my fiancé. We were practicing on concrete. By the day of our wedding, we let loose dancing. What I first thought would be terrifying was exhilarating! Every so often we heard a giant cheer come from family and friends as we completed the next dance move. Our dance went off without a hitch and I managed to not injure my wife at all. Through all the lessons Jasmine was always punctual, upbeat, and informative. Our style of dancing was informal, so she was informal, but she knows dancing quite well. I can't imagine having a better wedding dance teacher than Jasmine and encourage everyone to give her a shot. And even if you can't dance, do a dance date anyway. Jasmine is a fun, vibrant dance teacher. I take east coast, lindy, and balboa swing classes from her. From the very first class, I knew something was different about Jasmine, though I could not quite put my finger on it at the time. In all honesty, in the beginning it made me uncomfortable, but it was because it was challenging me. Change is hard... I have taken many dance classes over my lifetime, but they were not social dances. Being in hyper control of one's own body is difficult enough without adding another person into the mix. Its funny, but social dancing has taught me to acquiesce and be a more flexible person. Jasmine's bailiwick is non-choreographed dancing on the social dance floor. As a follower, she has been instrumental in teaching me how to let the lead "lead." This seems quite simple, but letting go of control and focusing on what your partner is doing, staying in front of them, and giving enough space, while providing enough pressure/feedback. These are much harder to do than you would think. The good dancers make it look effortless and as it were, so does Jasmine. I aspire to dance as well as Jasmine "one day." I tried Lindy Hop lessons in a number of places before I found Jasmine and I knew right away that her lessons were what I was looking for. Other teachers were showing me fancy moves and complicated Charleston patterns but Jasmine was teaching how to swing dance. Basics to more complex patterns and showing us variations in how any of those moves could be used. That's how you actually dance. She always reviews previous moves, watches to make sure everyone is executing correctly, and pays attention to little technical things that make a difference. Likewise her private lessons are highly recommended. The seed was planted years ago after seeing the movie "Swingers" - I KNEW that I wanted to learn how to dance swing. As time waits for no one, at some point it was time to start checking off that bucket list so...
