He is qualified to treat virtually any psychiatric disease and seems to have special expertise in treating Bi Polar (Manic-Depressive) Disorder. I believe he is also certified in treating addictions. I have a text-book on Bi Polar Disorder and his name appears in the credits, so I think he is accomplished in the academic world as well. One major drawback of the GW MFA Department of Psychiatry is that they operate on a cash only basis. So visits are expensive, you have to pay out of pocket and then submit the receipt to your insurance on your own. This effectively shuts out most HMO patients but your PPO might give you some kind of reimbursement for your visit. He is prompt, but has limited office hours, the other time presumably for research/teaching as he is on the faculty staff.

I should have realized when she told me at the start that she would only see me if I 1) got 8 hours of sleep a night 2) ate 3 healthy meals a day and 3) exercised every day. Really? I told her that if I could do all that, I probably wouldn't be in need of help. And I should have left and never returned. It was a major mistake to keep seeing her at a time when I really needed help, but got none and in fact I feel she was harmful. She was recommended by a friend (who btw no longer recommends her) and we both found out - by comparing notes - that a Rx she put us on had significant side effects. If you miss one dose, you get flu-like symptoms. And if you go off it cold turkey, you can easily end up in the hospital. But Dr. K never mentioned any of that. I had to find a different psychiatrist to get detailed instructions on how to "taper down" to get off this Rx safely, since I no longer trusted Dr. Kogan. If you are reading this review, I hope you'll benefit and will end up finding a more capable and compassionate doctor. BTW, she gave herself a 5 star Yelp review - just embarrassing - that is in the filtered reviews. Seems she doesn't have any qualms about pretending to be a patient in order to improve her rating. There's no doubt in my mind that I'm not the only person who went to her in need of help, yet was harmed by Dr. Kogan.

When we started, I was in crisis and she was able to quickly regulate my medications and help get me stable. If not for Mia Kogan, I probably would have taken a leave of absence (if not simply leave) from college, and I would not have made many of the significant steps following my graduation. I think it's very significant that while I attended college, Dr. Kogan made the effort to Skype and call me to check in at least once if not twice a week. Dr. Kogan can be direct and to the point which is not for everyone but one of the reasons that I value her so greatly is that reality check. To the reviews below, she is very short in emails but it's really not a reflection of her personality, just her directness and that she's sending out quick responses while focusing her time in sessions. Also, the fact that she's lived and worked in the DC area for so long means that she has excellent insight into city doctors, institutions, and companies. She has been an excellent resource when I'm looking for insight on my personal career path, doubling almost as a life-coach and insider-guide. Honestly, Dr. Kogan has been a solid positive force in my life and I can not heap enough praise upon her.

You can walk out and feel like you've just visited the dentist. I was immediately comfortable talking with Dr. Kraff, more comfortable than with any other out of six psychiatrists I've seen this year (complicated problems). I feel that he actually cares about *me* and not just "my problems". And when I walk out of his office, I feel good. I'd recommend him highly, with only one reservation: although he's very familiar with psychopharmacology, he doesn't specialize in it, so if you have very complex medication concerns, you may need to see someone else in addition.

Horribly incompetent and unresponsive surgical schedulers who don't return phone calls or provide…read morenecessary pre-surgical screening orders. I was told by my orthopedic surgeon I needed surgery ASAP for a back injury that had severely compressed my spinal cord causing me to lose the ability to walk or drive. The scheduler was SUPPOSED to call within the next three business days. They never called so I called the scheduler and got her VM box. Left the requested call back info - an never received a call.... after three more calls, I finally got a callback and was told an incorrect date for my surgery... and then she went on vacation with zero followup by anyone else. i was told by this useless scheduler that I should receive my surgical packet with the necessary orders for presurgical screening by my primary care doctor in the next few days.... a month went by with no surgical packet ever sent - because she was on vacation.... WTF Medstar? You guys just drop everything like that? So next I get a call from Medstar saying they received a fax with results for a CT scan I had done and didn't know why. I had to TELL THEM I had surgery scheduled - or at least I thought I did.... and when I found out the date, it was an entire month later than what that incompetent scheduler lump told me... okay.. nothing I can do about that, but WHERE were the presurgical orders I was told I would receive a month ago?.... They told they'd call me right back. No callback - not that day, or the next two days...so I called again and once again, VM... left a message with callback info and once again, no callback... This had become a ridiculous circle-jerk by now - you can't get ANYONE to do what they say they're going to do, and you have to end up becoming a pain in the neck in order to force someone to do their damn job!!! I called the Dr's office and told them what was going on and asked to speak with a hospital administrator because this degree of incompetence and lack of any consideration whatsoever had gone on too long and I was about done trying to get anything done with Medstar... and after I threatened to escalate, someone finally emailed me the surgical packet they never mailed - the surgical packet they promised they would over a month ago. When you're ill and struggling every day, this level of uncaring, inconsiderate incompetence is what you now have to overcome, it's infuriating and only adds to the stress and discomfort you're already having to deal with.... because people won't do what they say they will do.... you can't trust or believe a damn thing from anyone at Medstar it seems. My surgery is less than a month away now and I've had to make an appointment with a doctor who isn't my primary care doctor because I didn't get their damn packet in time to make an appointment... so now I have to go see a different doctor who has never seen me. That's really screwed up. If I had this to do over - which I may find will end up being the case - since I don't trust or believe anything these people tell me anymore, I'd go elsewhere because I doubt any other hospital group could be this thoroughly incompetent, inconsiderate and unresponsive.... I'm not going into this surgery with a sense of comfort or trust and that's entirely due the incompetence and lackadaisical uncaring attitudes of the schedulers and supporting staff..... TLDR: - Initial contact was meh, but 10/10 patient…read moreexperience once you get set up. - Assessment can be taken from your own home and there is no long waiting list like at most spots - Immediate diagnosis and paperwork can be taken to your doctor - Out of pocket for insurance but will send you superbill for reimbursement - Lots of resources afterwards (medication is not the only answer) I spoke to my doctor at One Medical Group about getting a potential ADHD diagnosis and they recommended reaching out to Dr. Dodini for a full assessment. My initial back and forth with the company was really touch and go. I would submit papers and not hear back for days/weeks so I finally left a message on their phone line to see what was happening and got an IMMEDIATE call from Dr. Dodini himself. He apologized for the mishaps and personally got me scheduled for an online assessment. My testing came in super fast but for some reason my computer would not register my answers, so he had me come in to take the test in office. I really appreciated it because he was able to explain the full process to me, make sure I was set up correctly and was able to get my results pretty much right after the test in person. To nobody's surprise I tested positive for ADHD and Dr. Dodini gave me a full breakdown of what I had trouble with + my options for help. I was able to take my paperwork to my doctor and figure out next steps whether it was medication or an executive functioning coach. I had been feeling slightly off the past few years and he had assured me that I have had ADHD my whole life but things like becoming a working parent, a pandemic, etc had caused all my masking to become undone and it was not my fault. I left the appointment feeling emotional but also empowered. They also have a newsletter that they said out to former patients with helpful information + tips as well as webinars. I was never diagnosed in childhood and my adult diagnosis was no longer in my records. After my second child was born, I found myself forgetful, impulsive, frequently overwhelmed and struggling. I honestly thought my career was going to be over. My PCP stepped in last year and provided me with short term relief, but she really wanted a full diagnosis to understand whether the treatments were effective or necessary. Finding a psychiatrist in a pandemic was very difficult and many don't do such diagnoses remotely, but Dr. Dodini does! His office responded within 24 hours to my request and sent a full panel of information within 2 days. I paid the fee for the assessment (it's out of network for everyone so I had to pay upfront for reimbursement) and was given all of the information for the ONLINE assessment. I was very skeptical. I didn't think that an online test could possibly be able to measure what was going on in my mind. I was wrong. Within 24 hours of taking the online test, I had a call with Dr. Dodini -- a call that he graciously rescheduled when my ADHD helped me calendar it on the wrong time so I showed up with 3 minutes left in my appointment time. On that call, he explained the results of the test, how it works, and what it had measured. I PROMISE YOU, I felt SEEN, Supported, Understood and HOPEFUL for the first time in YEARS. My meds are way too low, which I knew, but was scared to ask for more to keep my doctor from thinking I was med seeking. My coping mechanisms are ALL FRIED and I am burnt OUT. Dr. Dodini explained WHY and how my mental health challenges are all exacerbating each other and how increasing my dosage and adding some small changes into my daily life can completely change my life. He also gave me some excellent resources that I've already started looking into, including an ADHD coach, which I've been looking for for TWO YEARS!!!! I cannot overstate how happy this appointment made me. I already have a therapist and a doctor, but having the diagnosis on paper and dealing with someone who actually understood what I was going through and could explain it was absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend Dr. Dodini enough. If you're struggling. If you've been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD or just feel like you could have it, PLEASE see him. I promise you will leave with a much better understanding of what is going on in your brain as well as the PAPERWORK that can help your psychiatrist or MD help you to change your life!

Hands-down Dr Kessler is the BEST doctor I have ever been to. And I've had some good ones (and bad…read moreones), but he's fantastic. He very much enjoys engaging with his patients. He is thorough, he's methodical, he's a very nice man, and he helped to solve my problem where a couple of other doctors before had failed. When he's in the room with you, you get the feeling he's only thinking about you and not thinking about how he has to rush out of the room to get to the next patient. (Sound familiar from your other doctors?) That's not him. He takes his time and he's fully engaged. Some people will complain that they wait too long past their scheduled appointment time to be seen. That may absolutely be true, and that is because he is spending all the time he needs to with the previous patient. Do I mind that? Do I get mad at that? Never. Because I know that when he comes to see me, he's going to be giving me his full attention too. I LOVE this guy. If you don't want to wait, make sure you book early in the day with one of his first appointments rather than later in the day. But even then, like I said, you're getting one of this nation's best hematologists to be fully focused on you. I highly recommend him. And a special shout out to his support staff. They have been great helping me get the medication that I need and troubleshooting any issues on my behalf with my insurance company to get my medication approved.

The next visit, some months later, I had an appointment scheduled for around 1:15. This time I walked out after waiting 3 FULL HOURS!! Can you imagine?!?!? I think I needed a psychiatrist after that to see why I waited so long. I never did see him. The tech took my vitals fairly quickly. About 30-45 minutes after that an intern/student saw me and we chatted briefly. Some time after that Kessler stuck his head in the door and apologized for running late. (This was about 3 p.m.). So I waited another 75 minutes and finally walked out. It's your choice.
