Although no longer in operations the old buildings still stand; making the CSH a great place to drive through to see some of Georgia's dark and fascinating history. Although you are not suppose to explore the grounds or go in the buildings, there are a few brave souls that have since the hospital ceased operations. You can find many references online to CSH with some wonderful photos from the past to the present. So next time you are in Milledgeville take a ride to the southside and check out the Central State Hospital.

It is in the new wing and I swear it's the largest, most luxe room I've ever had anywhere. The bed is incredible! It is so very comfy and has a ton of buttons to adjust for comfort. There is a cell phone caddy with a usb charger built in. Loved that feature! The tv is good sized, much larger than the one in the ER room I was in. Dietary called me every day to ask what I wanted for meals. They offered several options and I could customize my plate as I wanted it. Never seen that before either. My doctors kept me informed and gave me plenty of opportunities to ask questions. The nurses and techs were very responsive. No complaints!! All my medical records are stored here so any specialist I go to can access them easily. I always try to choose Piedmont affiliated providers. They have a great patient portal where I can look up my records, visit summaries, medications, appointments including my past appointments, and contact my providers. No one likes being in the hospital but if I have to be, I want to be in this one.

My dying son with a fractured back would be wreathing in pain, we call for his available pain meds and twice they didn't arrive for over an hour and a half. Multiple times it was over an hour. He was also suffering from pulmonary edema and requested the respiratory treatment which was on his chart. The nurse didn't even call them. After 2 hours another tech came in (an hour after she was called) and finally called the reparatory treatment. they did come right away and informed us the first nurse never called them. If anyone asked why it took so long, the nurses would snap back- "I GOT OTHER PATIENTS AND CAN'T GET HERE RIGHT AWAY!!!". Over an hour and a half? Then, they removed my son from the air conditioned second floor and moved him to the fourth floor knowing the AC was out on that floor. They put him in a room where the temp got over 90 degrees and 80% humidity. The AC was out for over 24 hours. We had to go buy fans ourselves. But they had a portable AC unit at the employee lounge and doctors lounge where I never saw a single person. There is so much more. That hospital is a disgrace. They didn't treat my son, they tortured him.

I immediately called poison control, and they patched me through to the Battery Ingestion Center (yes, it's real.) After giving them my sons information, battery type, and the closest hospital. they instructed me to get there asap. I was literally 8 minutes away at this time. When I arrived, the doctors already had a plan in place for my child, x-ray technicians waiting, and the had alerted the helicopter that we might need them. This all within the 8 minute drive! Luckily, my son had a good prognosis, and none of that was needed, but I am impressed by their urgency.

Because my doctor requested an X-ray, and this is the only hospital in the area (eek), my adoptive daughter brought me here. Unfortunately, they're out of my Network, so it cost me $125.00. :-( But, the service was great, and quick (took longer to fill out the paperwork, than getting the X-rays). I was in and out in about half an hour (I was really surprised, as there were 4-5 other people already there). Everyone was professional, yet friendl, too What was I found amusing, on my way out, in the hallway, about halfway to the main lobby, the clerk who had checked me in saw me, stopped me, and asked me my last name. After 3 attempts, she still couldn't get it right. So, I said, "Anthony". And, the patient who was with her, said, "Definitely easier." LoL
