I had a gastric procedure earlier this year, which included a colonscopy. When I've had colonoscopies in the past at other facilities, they've allowed the patients to have a curtained off section after the procedure so that that patient can try to relieve the gas that's on their stomachs. Not so at Javon Bea. You are awakened with a LOUD voice, which completely startles you, then put into a room with a nurse or nurses with no hope of being able to release that gas. So you go home with a very bad stomach ache. Otherwise, the staff could not have been kinder. I left a message for the department manager about this, but she never returned my call. This is the only thing that I feel needs to be improved about this department. read more

I went to urgent care who thought my appendix severe pain in my abdomen. Wanted to call ambulance i told them I'd get my husband and go. I was telling traige RN my symptoms and what urgent care said. She's like they don't know without a scan which I said that's why I'm here I need scan to see what's causing the pain. Felt like a brush off. They took back to draw blood and she got called out in middle of trialing another person came and started putting IV in and proceeds to tell me shes a student is that ok after she already stsrted the IV. I wasnt even asked prior if i was ok or not with that. After waiting 2 hours and seeing no movement went in asked how much longer. They could not tell me they have no wait times goes by severity which i u derstand stroke heart attack is serious but I was also in pain and it was getting worse. Talked to another person who was smirking while talking to me like I was joking so I asked for someone in charge n charge nurse repeat the same thing. I could wait for anywhere 2-6 hours to be seen. Asked if they could at least do ct while I wait they said there too busy. I left. I better not be charged ill call my indurance to not pay them. I drove 45 minutesto another hospitalwho took me back in 20 minutes n had CT with an hour of being there. Nice polite caring staff compared to this hospital. No wonder they got a bad rating. A nurse name Kecia was absolutely horrible, had to force my dad to stand up when he didn't have any strength, then after we confronted her after she started to get more intense we told her straight to her face, what she had done we didn't feel comfortable and we were upset that she had force my dad to stand up, and she would yell every time we tried to speak, we got offended by her attitude, her anger, and her personality, then had the audacity to say she didn't do anything wrong and was helping him the whole time which was a lie. In 2023, the Mercy Hospital REACT Critical Transport team airlifted me to Javon Bea, after I was hit by a wrong-way driver. The flight crew saved my life with mid-air blood transfusions, as I had almost bled out. I also coded out TWICE! Thanks Dr. Pakiela for keeping me going. Javon Bea's Doctor Hollister and Doctor Zlowodzki did an amazing job putting me back together in the months that followed. (Total of 12 surgeries!) My wife was also in the same vehicle as me, and was provided immediate care after being thrown through the windshield. She is also alive and well due to the excellent care of Mercy Health at Javon Bea. The doctors, nurses and CNA staff at Javon Bea are top notch, and truly care for their patients. I am beyond grateful for the care they provided me while I was there for over a month. For those of you giving 1 star reviews for a long wait, just know they are busy caring for patients with more severe cases while you wait. You will get seen, I promise. read more

Visited the emergency department at this hospital was absolutely disappointed. I spent nine hours in the waiting room, I could barely walk complaining of a spinal injury took them about 3 1/2 hours to take my vitals and then another 6 hours before I just walked out. They didn't seem to care About their patients. They all appeared to be exhausted and gave off the impression that they hated their jobs. The staff could not even offer me a wheelchair as hobbled through the emergency department. Went in to emergency room for my testicles got there at 8 pm they said the doctor will read it and let me know what is wrong the only problem was they didn't tell me that there is not a radiologist doctor on shift till tomorrow morning around 9 or 10 am after going up to desk the 3rd time and asking when it will be read there were 2 nurse's at desk and one of them slipped and said that's When and there was also another couple that was there 4 hours before me and there were also others after. none of them were told either. and we were all in severe pain . there should be one on duty every day 24/7 isn't that's why we go to the emergency room problem's in stead of out in waiting room area with all the other's to have there altra sound read sitting in pain waiting till the next day. read more

Very very disappointed with patient care today! Went for back injections, and was told the day before that I didn't need a driver, arrived 1 hr early and was asked where my driver was, explained I was told I didn't need one because I wasn't getting sedation! But also told them I can get a driver to be with me but it would take about 45 min for them to get there! They wouldn't proceed because he wasn't in the building! Again explained I was told I didn't t need one, so because of the confusion I could get one, they wouldn't accept that as an acceptable option even though it was their ERROR! I went round and round with them and they still refused my injections! There was no attempt to resolve this today on their end ONLY wanted to push me off to another day!! They WERE great last admission , but then when my sister went in there, December 12, it was a whole new ballpark. They ended up giving her a medication that did not bring her back conscious!! , hurt liver worse & kidneys , so she went into a coma and they let her lay there for two weeks in shock, they wouldn't try to bring her out of the shock. The medicine they gave was very pathetic weak compared to what they could've gave her a ICU nurse basically said what's the point of saving somebody's life if they're terminal anyway they were in my ear constantly saying about how she's gonna die how she's gonna die today she's gonna die today and she actually held on for two weeks. Highly disappointed with how they treated her at the end. They just made it seem like since she had the stage for pancreatic cancer that she wasn't worth saving, even though it was them that did her fast decline..... so my recommendation is if you have a terminal disease do not choose this hospital because their decisions will either kill you or they will not fight for you to live because they find you deem you terminal. Guess what I had medicine here @ home to fight her cancer!!!!! All they had to do was keep her vitals good and take care of her like a patient & not a statistic!! My 54 yr old nephew was admitted to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, IL on June 7, 2024. He was taken by ambulance with near death vitals. His hospital bracelet has the wrong name on it, but the correct birthdate. This was brought to their attention immediately. As of today, June 10th, it still has not been corrected and he is possibly going to be discharged since they cannot find the problem. If they can't correct a name within 3 days, how can we trust any test results? Are they going to bill both insurances? They must have had this other person in there at some point to have his name on my nephews bracelet. Is my nephews information in his records? Or visa versa? I think he needs to go to a real hospital that can at least get a name right. read more

If I could give this "emergency room" zero stars, I 100% would. I arrived at 3:30pm after being encouraged by my doctor to go, as my menstrual symptoms were quite severe (sorry, TMI). I was triaged at 3:45 pm and after that, sat for 8 hours with no nurse, no doctor, nothing. During triage, I provided a urine and blood sample to run tests. I found it alarming that during triage, I had mentioned I was light headed off and on and became dizzy, and one of the nurses asked the other "should we do an EKG since she said she was dizzy?" and the other one rudely said, "no". After providing 3 containers of blood, they inserted a catheter and told me it was in case the doctor wanted to provide me with an IV or give me IV medication. They also told me I could not eat or drink anything due to the doctor possibly wanting me to do scans. Well, as I stated, I saw no doctor, no nurses after that. I went up to the receptionist area and asked to speak with someone, as it felt like my ovaries were on fire and going to explode. The female receptionist told me she would let a nurse know and someone would be out shortly to talk with me. A few moments later, this same female receptionist left for the night. After about an hour, mind you, it's 10:00 pm at this point, I went back to the receptionist desk and asked if the previous receptionist had talked with a nurse and his response was "I'm sure she did". I asked "are you sure or do you know that she did?" His response: "I'm sure she did". I asked if he could check and he scoffed and closed the window in my face. I went to the bathroom, my phone was at 5%, and decided I needed to go home, as I had not eaten, had anything to drink, and was tired from sitting without having any sort of communication with medical personnel aside from triage. I then went back to the receptionist window, the same guy rolled his eyes, opened the window and said "yes?" in a very snarky tone. I asked to have my catheter removed as I was going to leave due to having no follow-through or communication with medical staff. A woman came out from behind the receptionist and asked what I wanted. The guy then re-explained that I wanted to leave and that I wanted my catheter removed. She then rolled her eyes and stomped away. Within a matter of seconds, a nurse called my name to have my catheter removed from my arm. Now, when I say this guy was rough, he was ROUGH. He yanked the tape off of my arm, and proceeded to do the same with removing the catheter from my arm. I now have a nice bruise where it was placed and removed. I then left at 11:30 pm, after brushing off snow from my car. I woke up this morning and decided to do some digging on MyChart and see what my stuff had said regarding my lovely time in the emergency room. Lo and behold, my "reason for visit complaint" was very bland and was nothing of what I told the triage nurses. I will not ever return to this hospital for anything and will encourage friends and loved ones to do the same. I also will be switching my PCP from Mercy to something else, as I do not want anything to do with this. Unfortunately, my female part doctor is with UW Health and did not feel like driving to Swedes in the moment, as I was in so much pain. Lesson learned!! read more

After sitting in the ER, for over 12 hours, I couldn't walkaround, because it made my pain unbearable; so, unfortunately I was forced to sit in a chair for 12 hours. When I was finally seen by a Doctor, I was given an enjection of Toradol, a Valium and a Tylenol and told to go home, and I should do more. I limped out of there in worse pain than when I arrived. In my opinion, they're narcissistic maybe even sadistic but definitely not empathetic. They form an opinion based on their biased experience. I'm not sure, but I've all read the reviews for Jovan Bea hospital emergency room. I'm not the only one that has this opinion. It's sad, very sad that a hospital treats their community in this manner it's almost Unforgivable. I've been here 6 hours after being informed by my surgeon that I needed to come in immediately to see if there were complications due to my surgery. And I am not the one that has been in the ER the longest. There were 3 patients here when I walked in and all you have done is registered them all and seen or discharged none. I already have discharge paperwork in mychart but I was told I cannot leave yet because I haven't seen the doctor. If I bleed out waiting, my family is going to take you for everything. My father was transferred to the Javon Bea Mercy Hospital on a Saturday afternoon after having a stroke. The ER receptionist was very kind and caring. Even asked how things were when we left and said she was thinking about us the entire time. The nurses got him settled into his room in ICU and were very attentive. We were told he would have a stent put in the next morning and would be able to leave later that night. He was not given any food or water expecting him to have surgery in the morning. Around 11am Sunday we pressed for an update and was told it wouldn't happen till the next day. 12 hours with no food or water and no IV to keep him hydrated. Some of the nurses were attentive and got him up walking several times and tended to his requests. Others, were rude and couldn't be bothered for anything beyond their immediate task. He ate lunch and dinner and was not given anything after that. Again we were told he would go in for surgery in the morning around 9am Monday. We arrived early and sat for hours. His surgery was pushed off till 2:30 that day. In the mean time he was moved down to cardiac care on the 3rd floor where nurses are only available if you chase them down. He received very poor care on that floor and I was the one tending to him when he needed to get up to use the restroom and request aspirin for a headache. The nurses do not understand the priorities in that group. There were a few teams that came to ask questions all with different purposes, but no one thought to consider that this 84 year old man has been without food and water for over 21 hours. They finally wheeled him down at 2:20pm. Surgery took 2 hrs from the time they took him down until the time the Dr. came to tell us it was over. Dr. Bansal gave no explanations or apologies for rescheduling several times and just shrugged his shoulders like oh well. That's the world of medicine. It took another 2 hours for them to clean and prepare a room in ICU to move my dad back to the 5th floor. I went to tell the nurses we would be in the waiting room until he was moved up and you could see 2 rooms with people in them and the rest of the rooms were a mess. Apparently there's no housekeeping crew to stay on top of that. There were several people waiting for rooms to be prepared for them and I saw only one person doing anything about it. Just pathetic for a hospital. We were not able to stay late to see him settled into his room and I made our feelings clear to the nurse about the unorganized mess of that day. I would not recommend that hospital in its current state of disorganization and chaos. Patients health and comfort are not a priority there. And from the reviews I've read, we have another round of chaos coming once we receive the bill. On another note, the doctor who put in the order to transfer my father to Javon Bea will also be getting a bad review and a call from us. read more

My mom (83yrs) had a 5 day stay at Javon Bea. 9 hours in the waiting room and the worse hospital I have ever been too. If I was MR Javon Bea, I would feel horrified and embarrassed to have my name on this. My mom left worse than when she went in. She had an IV that extravasation and nothing was done about it. After going home, 5 days later I took her to a different ER and she was then transferred to Northwestern to have surgery on her arm to remove the dead infected area and givin IV antibiotics. I had to go to the Emergency Department on the advice of the doctor from Mercy Urgent Care. I had seen her on Monday for a hematoma and excessive swelling, pain on my right leg. She and her Intern were concerned and drew a line around the red area and said if it goes out of this or looks worse we are both here on Wednesday. She took pictures of it. I went to take a shower Wednesday later in the morning and noticed the red area was out of the line and my foot was red, leg was really shiny. I went back to see her later and she advised me to go to ED. I had two blown IV's. Arm bruises. Finally in back 1st dr looked at it and listened to chest. Ordered IV antibiotics. So glad because it looked so good after. It was open now. Another Dr came listen to chest said I was being admitted because I needed more antibiotics IV's. 12:15 was moved to the other side of ED because they close that side not enough staff. I was put in a room on what they call a bed and it's not it's basically what they use for patients in the ambulance. A little bigger. I have a bad back with a pain pump and I told the doctor that said I was getting admitted I had not had anything to eat since noon she got me a paper cereal and said they will get you something upstairs. I didn't even get to sleep until about 4:25 and I was not with it when I woke up. So another doctor came in lifted my leg and I grimaced because the pain I had been telling them about (the first doctor did give me a pain pill) he was the best doctor. And he said oh did that hurt and that was it because he listened to my heart. My nurse said I was supposed to get another IV of antibiotics at noon so I was glad because I knew that was going to help because now it's an open wound. I told him I only had a very small amount of cereal since noon yesterday and he said let's get you a menu and food. Later he came in and I asked him if I was going to get the IV he said let me go check on that. Came back and said no they are not going to do that. So I have been there on a cot with barely a mat for nothing charging my insurance. Then the first doctor comes in with another doctor and they look at it together and nothing BUT SHE HAS TO CHECK MY CHEST. I had every doctor do this and to me that was it. Well someone mentioned to the doctors that maybe wound care should come take a look. My wonderful nurse came back and advised me that they were coming. So about a hour later he checked and he said they are coming. They came and were gone probably about 15 minutes if that. So I didn't need all the doctors checking me out for my heart. I had just seen my cardiologist Wednesday morning. And there was no reason to keep me when they had nothing for me but to look at the wound. The first doctor took action and that was it. So I can't believe how bad the Emergency Room has gotten. It used to be good but I think it just got too big. Should have kept one on the West side even if I live on the east side I feel like you had such better treatment and didn't get lost in the room Thank you so very much for the GREATEST NURSES I HAD. THEY DID NOT FORGET WHERE I WAS AND THEY BOTH WERE WONDERFUL ESPECIALLY DAVID WHO TOOK CARE OF ME ALL DAY. And the hall community toilet is exactly like the one in the jail cell. All steal. Pretty cold and disgusting. Sad. Should have let me go home at midnight and my insurance should not be paying for all of me sitting in a bed that now I have a sore on my tailbone. read more

I got there in sever pain 6 day migraine unable to function the migraine medication from home was not helping. Lost vision in one eye I felt dizzy disoriented. I got there at 1040 am. I was not taken in the room until 9 something pm. During the time waiting in the E.R. hardly Noone checked on me I laid on a dirty floor because I was to dizzy to sit up. Noone offered me a blanket a glass of water or anything. When I would build up strength to ask how much longer they said they had no beds and the people that are being taken back are in more critical condition than I am. I seen people socializing joking eating having family support with them being taken care of before me. People that by far seem healthier then me dizzy full of vomit on the hospitals E.R. floor!! A dog would be approached by someone and checked on! They told my friend that called wondering why I was not being seen that they were checking my vitals every hr which is not true whoever (Andrew) is lied! Noone checked on me from 545 when I asked for ib profen until I was brought back to the room after 9 pm!! The nurse was extremely loud and rude. She would not help me up when I told her I was too dizzy to get up she yelled and said my room was not far away! When I fell over grabbing onto a chair she huffed in anger! And yelled here is my arm hold on to it!!! Than was extremely rude in the room!! I heard her laughing with other nurses how she was not going to catch me or want to help me because I was on a dirty floor and she said I told the patient to take a shower when she gets home how nasty.. This is specifically for the pain management center located within the clinic. The nurse practitioner Virginia Velazquez is extremely rude. I had my results showing that my back was screwed up, causing pain. She was no help, no real plan of action. I understand the world of medication abuse we live in, but when you lecture some one in actual pain about how to lock up medication making it sound like family and friends are going to steal them, there is an issue. We spent more time talking about how to lock up medication than the actual visit. Then on top of that tell a person in pain they shouldn't need medication more than one time a day and to take Tylenol the rest of the time, knowing that doesn't relieve the pain. My brother was taken to this hospital late Friday by ambulance unconscious 2/21/25. It was determined he had a low blood sugar event. Reduction in amount metformin and other drugs was made and the addition a Dexcom device. We checked out the next day and were supplied with 2 of 3 parts of the Dexcom device. The missing part was the transmitter and we told that it was out of stock. We were told that they were to send a prescription to his CVS pharmacy for the transmitter. CVS told us Medicare declined the transmitter request as it was less than the 30 days required to get another one. When I told the CVS person about the "out of stock" problem at the hospital, She said to call the hospital Pharmacy and have them reverse out the transmitter to Medicare and then send another request to CVS. I called the hospital pharmacy but they said they could not do anything because they could not find our prescription on their system. Sent me to the nurse station on the floor where my brother was on. Had to explain this all over again to her and she said she had to ask the head nurse and would call me back. After a while she called back and tranferred me to another person (can't recall title of that person possibly a trouble shooter) but got her voice mail. Had to elate this long sorry story again on voicemail and am now waiting a call back if ever get one. Its been awhile. I live 45 minutes from my brother and he lives about the same time from the hospital. read more

My father received some of the worst care my mother an i could've imagined. It was unfortunate that the team wouldn't take our concerns seriously, leading to a bowel obstruction and more days in the hospital. They later released him and no more that 4 days later he's still short of breath and now BACK in the hospital back home because the chest X-ray looked awful. Possibly with infection... this team needs their shit together or no one to ever come there. You'd get much better care nearly anywhere else. OMG, I have to say this... I DO NOT RECCOMEND JAVON BEA HOSPITAL. FOR NOW ON, I WILL AVOID THAT PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Went to that joke of a hospital yesterday because my blood pressure has been extremely high. It's been averaging 148/93 to 140/110. Too damn high. Called doctor, he wanted me to go to the hospital asap. Went by ambulance. Got to Javon BEA, they sent me to sit in the waiting room. Sat there for 4 hours and asked if it was going to be much longer. My anxiety is kicking in because the doctor wanted me seen fast..... Javon Bea is anything but fast. They said it shouldn't be much longer....... 3 HOURS LATER, my anxiety is really kicking in, after having surgery the day before, the last place I want to sit is in a waiting room for 7 hours where it seemed like no one was getting any help. It seemed like all the employees were having a vacation instead of helping people. I HAD TO LEAVE. Today I'm going to an out patient clinic to hopefully get blood pressure medication before I stroke out or have a heart attack. When my brother Donald was alive, he was in an extremely amount of pain. I took him to JAVON BEA, that was a mistake then too. That day, there were 2 people in the waiting room. They had Donald and I waiting over 4 hours. Donald was in so much pain he wanted to go home after waiting 2 hours, I went to the desk and told them my brother is in a lot of pain, asked how much longer. They said not much longer...... Over 2 more hours went by, Donald said he had to get home. He was in too much pain to stay any longer. I went to the desk and told them that, they said again it won't be much longer.... If I could give this hospital and staff a million stars I would. My husband and I were in a head on MVA on the expressway earlier this year. They airlifted my husband due to his serious critical injuries and sent me in an ambulance. These doctors, nurses and staff legitimately saved our lives. Our Injuries were life threatening and they gave us absolutely amazing care. Shout out to Dr. Hollister, Dr. Masteller (trauma surgeons) and Dr. Zlowodzki(ortho surgeon). Without this level 1 trauma hospital, my husband and I would have both died that night. Please disregard the bad reviews you see, if you truly are in a life threatening situation they will take care of you and do it with passion. read more

Again, there should be a "no star" or "negative star" rating system for businesses like this one. I'm happy to say, I never had this misfortune of ever having to step foot into this place. I was referred to this hospital to set up therapy. I tried calling several times and got the run around. I finally had a receptionist in their therapy department request that I fax them the script or order from the doctor ordering therapy. The doctors office faxed it twice and I emailed it once. Each time I called to verify they received it they kept saying they had not. Even though I had the fax confirmation with their fax number saying it went through. The receptionist was rude, combative and hostile towards me because I kept calling wanting to schedule therapy and confirm receipt of the (multiple) orders sent. I had to calm her down and let her know she should have courtesy with patients and not look to instigate arguments. This is a horrible place. Medical centers of all types should communicate with ALL patients in a respectful and compassionate matter. If someone is calling a medical facility they are, most likely, up against a sensitive and emotional diagnosis and therefore, in a vulnerable state. This facility and its staff are for from compassionate and ready to help you on your medical journey. But rather, set, willing and able to make the process that more difficult and challenging. I was seen in the ER and taken very good care of by M.J., Brad and a nurse whom I'm sorry I didn't get her name. She was monitoring M.J. All was very professional and courteous while maintaining a friendly and loving attitude. I truly felt God's love at this visit. My dad was also seen in the ER and was taken very good care of. The doctors and nurses were very professional and courteous and explained everything to our understanding. He was admitted and also received the same great care by the hospital staff and doctors. I waited 6 hours before being called back to an exam room. The rooom was dirty & had dry blood on the rails of the bed. I told the nurse. She apologized and left. I cleaned the blood with the wipes they had in the room. I don't want nobody else's blood close to my body. I'm already sick. read more
